... that is all, carry on. I don't recall my dad ever saying that. Hmmmm. Wonder why? I had a good run yesterday. I did my long run (10 mi.) on the trails at Oxbow County Park. It wasn't terribly cold (28 degrees), but is was windy and snowing HARD. Had a pretty cool experience at the end of my 2nd lap (out of 3). The short segment of the trail runs parallel to the road. As I'm running along (in the blizzard), I'm pretty sure I see someone in their car practically come to a stop rubber-necking to look at me. I figure he just thinks I'm nuts. Whatever. Keep running . . . . . Well, a few minutes later, as I complete my 2nd lap and grab a drink of water, he drives into the parking lot. He gets out dressed in running gear and says that he saw me running out by the road and figured if I can be out there in this weather, he shouldn't wimp out! He had driven past the park entrance and was going to head home when he saw me. Haha. He ran a lap with me and we had a nice chat! Love making new friends :-) |

We've been following the chatter about it for a few months. It would be a super fast IM course. It is very flat in that part of VA. I did a HIM there 2 years ago. Of course, I want to know where that swim will be b/c I am still mentally recovering from that awful swim. |

That looks yummy. And a perfect side dish to the lamb dish I'm making on Wed. I think I need to make that roasted chickpea recipe for Superbowl Sunday munching. Master 2436 Apex, north carolina | Subject: RE: SWBKRUN -CLOSED DUE TO TRAINING One more prop for the Timex Ironman watch. I've used it for the past 5 years and love it. I've never had an issue pushing the button under water. The only flaw is because I wear it basically 24-7 the face plate will crack and get moisture in it (like someone previously said) so I get a new one about once a year. I blame that mainly on the sun, chlorine, lake water, sun screen combo. That is asking a lot from any watch. I second the Body Glide comment. Did some dreadmill running this week and quickly remembered the key locations. Ouch. Logged my first 10K run this weekend as well. NOTHING fast or sexy about it except the fact that I did it. 2012 training as FINALLY officially begun for me. Considering I have a half marathon in 8 weeks I can't delay any longer. Macro recovery period is over. Darn, just when I was getting the hang of it too. |

Kingsmill is a nice resort, they used to play a PGA tournament there, it's owned by Anheuser Busch. You also have all the historical stuff in Williamsburg + Busch Gardens so it could be a nice place to have a race. September could be cooling down from the summer, so might be the best time to have the race there. It would be super flat. |

And it's dirt cheap right now! Real live question ahead: I am looking for a low tech watch that I can wear in the pool that keeps track of laps. I want the lap button to be in the front, not the side so it is easy to hit. Ideas? Unlike Twin my wrists are normal size so any old watch will do. I think we may have covered this once before, but I don't remember what the recommendations were. |

It's slightly flatter than the 310XT, but still big, especially if I had a Kim wrist. Like I said early on, I am reluctant to buy it since it's the first model year, but ya never know with me. Jayne, one of the constant battles I had when I first started triathlon was trying to manage my running while still biking and swimming. I am wiser now and this early in the season, I'm inclined to suggest you back off on the biking to get in the running. Use biking only as recovery. Never easy to do, but if your half marathon is the priority it is the way to go. |

Master 2621 Almaden Valley, San Jose, California | Subject: RE: SWBKRUN -CLOSED DUE TO TRAINING I'm back! What a wonderful trip.......!! I'm with Suzy on the backing off of the biking for run training. It's a struggle, but it's exactly where I am right now, too. Of course, I'm also blowing off the pool, which I need to stop. Of course, I'm kinda making up a plan as I go..... I'm building mileage for three weeks, then pulling back for one. Still not sure how many miles I'll build to, worried about injuries, and that makes me hesitant to really pack in the miles. First four weeks of my self invented plan had me at 26, 31, 36, 26. We'll see!!

FWIW, I dropped it altogether from October to January to concentrate on my run and found that I had lost very little conditioning when I came back to it. Maybe cut your bike down to 1x week just to maintain and use your swims as recovery days? As for counting laps, the lap counter you posted works great for me. I wear it palm-side up on my middle finger and can see it easily while clicking with my thumb during push-offs. |

Any suggestions on how to use the last 8 weeks? Somebody? Anybody? So far, I've been making it up as I go along Add one more to the "take it easy on the bike" crowd. Any intensity on the bike and I get in trouble. Now that may be a fit issue or more likely some muscle weakness that shows up when I try to push hard (or both). My approach right now is to try and hold both the run and bike intensity at roughly zone 2. Ideally I want to be running 5-6 times/week and cycling 4-5 times/week while slowly cranking up the distances in both. I am not where I want to be - struggling with knee and/or hip niggles, but I'm still doing better than I was last year at this point. When I have to pick one and compromise the other, I cut back on the bike. I'm also making it up as I go along...at least for now. |
