David, thanks for the summary!  That helped quite a bit.  Sounds like you all have been busy.

Mike, I don't have any advice on the numbness but I can sympathize.  I have had wrist pain off and on for months.  Not a show stopper but I am still trying to figure out what is causing it.  I am pretty sure it has something to do with the bike.  Good luck getting yours figured out.

So I took some of my hubbies back pills last night (baclofen and ultram).  Wow did my hip and back ever feel better!  I took some ibuprofen this am and am still feeling pretty good.  Not that pills will fix the problem but it is nice to feel good.

Anyone here ever do whole30?  I am really thinking about trying it.  I know some people have done it to help with injury recovery.  I have been eating pretty bad lately so it would be a good way to get back to eating better if nothing else.

Hi Margo!  Welcome back to the crazy train.  Not familiar with whole30 but been trying to be a little bit more paleo over the past year or so.  I can part with bread/pasta but I draw the line at rice!

Currently reading The Primal Blueprint and it really resonates with me...it's more of a lifestyle thing but it's pretty hard to reconcile with longer distance triathlon training!  I like the philosophy of moving slowly but more frequently with some occasional bursts of speed...but when you want to race 70.3, I don't know how that can exactly carry over.  But I am trying to make it all work.  Eating less grains and processed foods, I feel healthier and have more energy.

So, if any of you remember when I went all Goofy in 2012?  Well, I am about to get all Dopey in 2014!

Happy Tuesday, Gang!

Sounds pretty simple. It is over 4 days.

That's exactly what I was thinking, and squeeze it around the main objective, visiting the parks and soaking up some January sunshine. Win-win!

LOL - Tony fowarded me the email yesterday about the Dopey.  I'd love to go back again and do it.  Honestly, I don't think adding a 5k is too big a deal unless you go for a PR.  It's all about pacing.  Anyway, you do a 5k at the expo picking up all of your stuff.   Tongue out  I would just love to avoid the family flu next time around!!

Aahh yes my bad!  I missed the 10k.  That sounds awesome.  :-)  I wonder how much that costs.  But if any group can pull it off, it is Disney.  I will say three medals at once was enough to hurt one's neck.  I can't imagine with all of those what would happen.  Someone's head might snap right off!

No racing for me!

I have a couple of 5k/10k's left to do for the spring. One with my daughter!

4k OWS in July

Past that I have not committed to anything other than a sprint in September.....  I will do two other sprints (there's one about every weekend here in the DFW area between now and October) and an Oly for sure.  We'll see how the running is progressing before I commit to a 70.3....   Would love to do a trail run sometime this year too...

I've been really quiet lately so I'll jump in here .... no racing.  My goals for this weekend are to ride my bike outside without it snowing or it being 34 degrees and raining (which is worse than snow in my opinion).  My plan to accomplish this may require me to start kicking the crap out of Mother Nature, but I am open for suggestions here ....... I completely understand the Rule 5, Rule 9, HTFU, etc. but this has been a crazy spring up in Dairyland.  We got 8 inches of snow in Green Bay last night?  Global warming....  my A$$!

Racing Season for me will once again peak around a 10 day stage race around SE Wisconsin at the end of June and then a full Cyclocross Season in Fall.  Plans are also to travel to race in Madison, Louisville, and Iowa City this year for National Level Cross Races.  I hope to qualify for Masters (think old, not good) CX Nationals again, it's in Boulder this year, but waiting to see what College Tuition bills look like with 2 in college later in the year.  Volunteering at IM-Moo for the 5th year in a row and Minnow is desperately trying to convince me to stick around till Monday ..... finally.

Good luck to all our Racers......  REPRESENT!!!

Dino is right, I would love to have him race MOO in '14.  He has been so supportive these last few years he deserves to have some fun and show off his awesome bike and swim skills!  And he is also right, Mother Nature doesn't love the Badger State one bit.  Blech!

My race calendar still remains pretty fluid.  The bolded things are for sure.  As most of know, when the weather turns nice in WI, I don't leave!  I didn't race much last year and plan to change that this year.

1. June 15:  Horribly Hilly Hundred  Bike Race

2. Some Oly in June (either Pleasant Prairie in IL or Verona WI Triterium)

3. July 13th Phillips Sprint Tri  (near Minocqua)

4. August 10th Minocqua Oly Tri

5. September 8th  IM WI

6. September 11th  Two week Safari Adventure with the man! Laughing

No racy, racy for me. One more long run, then a 3 week taper for me.

I've got mt marathon start of May, sprint in late May with the kids, a 1/2 IM in July, and for some reason a  24hr MTB relay.

Other than that, I'm wide open.

Well decided my first 5k of this year will be April 28th

It is the only 5k I did last year before my injury. Just going to run it to have a goal No PR thoughts in my head for this.

But need some focus. Lost focus again last week with having to be away for work one day. Ended up missing 4 days in a row of working out. BOOOOO on me.

mbehr1983 - 2013-04-09 8:12 AM  I have a question for the group, When riding my left hand continually goes numb. I had this problem with my old bike and now the new one. mI was fitted for the new bike. I am doing something wrong? Has this happened to anyone else? what have you done to resolve this issue?

I meant to attempt to help you here earlier and fell asleep at the wheel.  As stated earlier, my guess that if you were fit on this bike that you are gripping the bars with a death grip.  Or it is possible that your hips aren't level on the saddle also.  Your hand going numb indicates that you have to much weight on your hands when riding for some reason.

If at all possible, go back to see the fitter that fit you and let him know that your left hand is going numb after XX number of miles or time in the saddle.  They should make a few minor adjustments and let you ride again for a while to see if it gets better or worse, etc.  My educated guess is that they will probably start by dropping your bars a spacer.

Just my $.02

I'm racing! Not technically this weekend, but Monday, Patriots' Day, when I will celebrate our Revolutionary heroes by running 26.2 miles with a whole buncha other people in BOSTON! The training is in the bank, so this week I'm preparing by watching the Departed, reading Dennis Lehane novels, and listening the Dropkick Murphys turned up loud. I'm thinking I should find myself a tricorn hat for race day. Wonder if they have those at the Expo. Special wicking ones. This is going to be fun!!!

Who's racing this weekend?  Spill it and tell us your goals and your plan to accomplish them.

Question of the week:

Have you decided on races for the season?  Reply to this email with your race schedule for the year.  Let's see where everyone is going to be and when your going to be there.  Maybe I'll spend my summer traveling around and cheering you on!!

We're going to be tracking you every step of the way so give us that BIB # or we'll have to pull a Fatty and go find it ourselves!  So excited for you!

No racing here.  My racing schedule looks like this:

May 12: Sendai International Half Marathon

June 23: Sakata Oly

July 21: Kisakata Oly

Sep 1:  Sado B Course (2km swim, 105 km bike, 20 km run).  I find out in a few days whether I'm in - they do a lottery to select participants.

No racing for me.  I will be following our Julia on Monday, for sure!!!!  Good luck, Ms. Boston, soak it up!  Have fun at the MS 150, Dan!

Good luck to any other racers I missed.  Trev?  Good luck on your run this weekend...

Races?  yikes.

I am considering the Presidio 10 miler on 4/21.  Not sure why I want to torture myself with major hills but hey, it's more fun to do it in a race than out on the roads myself!

I think:

Tri for Real Olympic 6/3

for sure:

Vineman 70.3 7/14

Free for the rest of the summer!!!!

Oh, I swam today at my favorite outdoor pool on a perfectly gorgeous morning!!!

Is it really only Thursday????  WAHHHHHH!

No racing for me this weekend, except after a super cute two year old.

So far the only race on my schedule this year is Pumice Man on 6/2. It's a double sprint... new challenge for me so should be fun! I'm thinking that 2nd swim should feel great after getting hot on the run. Other than that, no definite plans. I'm looking for a marathon or two in the Fall, preferably in a state I haven't already run.

Have a great race, Julia! I will be tracking and cheering from Salem!

Dan- Have fun! Thanks for riding and raising money for MS!

Kyla- Loving the pics on FB from Kauai! Looks like you're all having a blast!

Sorry for my long absence. Computer time has been hard to find lately, but I do try and follow along as often as possible. Have a great day everyone!

Hi, all.  No racing for me this weekend.  The schedule I am shooting for is in my signature.  We shall see if my body will cooperate.  I may do a splash and dash at the end of this month.  There is a lady trying to start a tri club down by me ( I am just outside of Tucson).  She had a splash and dash a few weeks ago and I was the only one who showed up (was just gonna swim).  It was awful.  I got there and she mentioned that the pool was kinda cold.  Yeah, I got in and could not breathe when I tried to swim.  Good learning experience I guess.  I will go to the next one if there will actually be people there and the pool isn't ice cold.

I had a running form analysis yesterday.  It was quite educational.  The guy said that I am a classic "pull runner" as I pull with my hip flexors and don't engage my glutes.  He did a lot of work with me to get my glutes engaged.  We worked on forward lean from the ankles, center of gravity, and getting my feet to land underneath my hips.  Good stuff but my calves are trashed today.  Gonna hit the foam roller and do some gentle stretching tonight.  I can't wait to get out and run again with all I learned but will need to wait until the soreness subsides.

Good luck to the racers!
