Extreme Veteran 671 Not Quite DFL | Subject: RE: Body Composition Challenge Round 2: The Holidays I submitted a post yesterday - or at least I thought I did - on the chance that I had either a computer or an I.D. ten T error - I'll repost the part that was important to me - an abbreviated version.
During a recent run with my 7 year old she complained early and often of pain "right here" - pointing to her ribs - I'm assuming a side stitch. I had no good answers for her how to get rid of it. I told her to control her breathing and to get it back to normal - but every time we would resume running - she would complain of the pain. She had recently been ill - does have a cough and that could be related to it -but - please - any suggestions on how to help her through this? I want her to enjoy running as she still enjoys spending time with me. Thanks!

I used to get side stitches often. Controlling breathing works. Try this article for some info http://www.makeithappen.com/wis/readings/sidest.html You can help when you are running together by running at her pace and breathing together. I have been told that chanting the military running chants helps, too. |

Pro 3730 NorCal | Subject: RE: Body Composition Challenge Round 2: The Holidays Yesterday I caved to stress eating from work.....for dinner I had a chocolate chip muffin and a maple bar! As I'm grabbing my goodies from the bakery case I'm telling myself, "you are stress eating" but I told myself, "just have it and move on". I know there is no comfort in food, but I just really wanted to eat junk. So I had it, enjoyed it and moved on. Oh well. |

Master 2005 Silverton, Oregon | Subject: RE: Body Composition Challenge Round 2: The Holidays Hi all! Sorry I've been AWOL. I had a great time in Utah and Colorado, finished both my races, and had fun exploring. I'm pretty sure I didn't lose or gain while I was away, but it's hard to tell since I'm still having some post race water retention. Friday will be the moment of truth! It is always amazing to me how easy it is to make up for any calories burned, lol. Back to logging for me! |

Regular 137 Lansing, Michigan | Subject: RE: Body Composition Challenge Round 2: The Holidays I'm jumping back in after a hiatus of sitting behind a computer working on some school deadlines for the last month. Finally, a bit of a break. I have managed to start some weight lifting with a friend that is doing a 5-3-1 deloading program. My goal is to get to 1000lbs combined deadlift, squat, and bench press. My first set of maxes put me at 70lbs short of that goal... so I am close! On the endurance side of things.... boy have things slipped. I ran my last race in October (half mary) and did some cardio-esque work for a week in South Carolina (pulling seines Cameron). I also recently got married, so all of the planning, etc. for the two state affair (MO and SC) took a bit of my time. Regardless of the excuses, I am not in an endurance state that I am happy with. I went for a hilly ride this past weekend and pushed myself too hard on an uphill and nearly lost my breakfast (well, maybe eggs were a bad idea). I haven't run consistently for a month and swimming hasn't happened for the last few months. I posted my new goals for the offseason on my profile and I'm excited about the changes that will happen as a result of following them. Here's to a new everyone! Cheers. -t |

I'm actually feeling a lot better today. Maybe I test the lungs with a short run this evening. Still eating pretty good. Snuff that fluff! |

Master 1480 Southwest Chicago 'burbs | Subject: RE: Body Composition Challenge Round 2: The Holidays This was kind of an interesting blog post about strategies for eating clean after 5pm... I really thought Tip #2 -- not changing into sweats and comfy clothes -- was good. I know that if I do that before working out, I'm done for the night. It really does signal the end of my day. |

I live in sweats with working from home. THankfully my "office" is upstairs and I only come down to get more water and my lunch/ healthy snacks.

Master 1480 Southwest Chicago 'burbs | Subject: RE: Body Composition Challenge Round 2: The Holidays First: how is it even possible that Thanksgiving is about a week away?! Second: I'm going to go in with the idea of loading up on the stuff that's good for me (turkey, vegetables) and enjoying very small portions of the stuff that's not so good for me (sweet potatoes... healthy except they're floating in butter and covered with marshmallows, gravy, pumpkin pie). In the morning, I'm hoping to either do a 4-mile turkey trot or go to CF ... of course, I'm *also* planning on going out Wednesday night, so Thursday morning might not turn into anything productive... |

Expert 913 Lost in the Evergreens | Subject: RE: Body Composition Challenge Round 2: The Holidays My thanksgiving plans are to fly off to Phoenix, volunteer at IMAZ and then sign up on Monday morning for my first Ironman in 2012. I should be sufficiently motivated coming off an ironman weekend to stay clean past the turkey and holiday pie season. Cheers! |
