So sorry to hear this news. There seem to have been a few bike accidents recently, with none the cyclists fault. I wish him a speedy recovery.

I just can't fathom out how someone could hit a cyclist and drive away from the scene.....quite unbelievable, I do so hope they catch her and throw the book at her.

It's so sad that such a horrible thing had to happen to such a good person.  Joel represents all that's good about triathlon.  My prayer is that he'll be back soon, stronger than ever.

so sorry to hear this. Joel doesn't know me, but I have learned and benefitted from his posts here. He had a wonderful race at Boston, and I hope he makes an equally great and as-speedy-as-possible recovery.

Nothing but the best in your recovery - I'm sure you'll bring the same focus to your rehab as you do to your training! I also hope this menace gets caught quick.

I just came across this thread. Joel, I'm so sorry to hear about your accident. I totally hate the drivers around here who have no respect for cyclists and the fact that we have no bike lanes. If you or Katie need help with anything please get in touch with me. I'd like to be able to help out if you need anything. You'll both be in my prayers. Here's to a successful surgery and a speedy recovery.

Sorry to hear about the hit and run.  The bright side (if there is one) is that you'll get a great upper body workout from walking around with crutches.  I hope you have a speedy recovery.

Joel, Katie,

I recieved this link today in an email from Active.com.  http://www.active.com/story.cfm?story_id=12952&category=Triathlon&num=1  It's about a woman athlete that recovered from a cycling accident like yours.  You might want to read it.  I really liked the part about her doctors having to give very specific directions about therapy.  If they told her to walk as far as she could, she would have walked to the next town.  As an athlete, her pain threshold was way beyond what the doctors were used to.

It just reminded me of what your athletic attitude is probably like.

Get well soon!

TJ

Damn that sucks! Just focus on your recovery and do what you need to do. The races will always be there for when you are ready again.

Please send Joel my best.  He will be in my prayers.

And to think I was just in Boston supporting my wife who ran the marathon.  Too bad we didn't meet.

Please tell Joel we will be thinking of him and praying for a speedy and 100% recovery.

Please keep us posted.

Katie, Ihope when you find her you get your shot. If it does get legal make it hurt.

Another BTer here who has watched Joel prepare for and race for his tri's and for Boston. Im sure if puts only half the effort into his recovery and rehab as he has done for his training, hell be back on his feet in record time.  I think there is some endurox allready set for the IV after surgery and Mike Ricci has a nutrition planned all worked out for him.

My best wishes to Joel for a speedy recovery and I hope the driver and all others who drive off get what they rightlfully deserve.

Man Im so tired of reading about cyclists getting mowed down by stupid, impatient drivers. I can't tell you number of close calls Ive had already and the season hasn't even started. What will it take to get motorists to share the road?

Joel hearing this just p!sses me off. Praying for a quick recovery and a quick return to the sport. Be well and raise some hell with the nurses!!

Joel. Stay strong buddy, we are all in your corner and can't wait to see you back out there. You have touched and inspired so many of us.
Good luck with you recovery.

Maybe we could buy you a hand cycle and racing chair and you could keep racing while you rehab.
