I'm wondering if this club is still active! I have never been a runner, but have done some slow running miles to participate in a few triathlons in the past two yeard. I battled shin  spints which are not my issue at this time. Plantar fasciitis is. So this keeps me further from running, but I want to try to at least see if I can do some consistent walk/jogging. I don't even have a mile time at this point but would be surprised if it would be below a 12-12.5 minute mile.

So -- is anyone still out there in this slow buggers club? I could at least have you folks as a possible motivation! Perhaps after a consitent February of checking in once a week with mileage and one measured time we could move on to some sort of "challenge" like xxx number of miles per week for the month of March, and set something new for April. Just some thoughts.

I wait to hear from anyone who might still be out there.

Nancy

well first couple of miles back. I did 9 min for 1 mile with 2 beautiful women but I was red lining my heart rate and had to slow way way down. Plus it hurt my knee again some. I can do about 2 miles at 11:00 - 12:00 miles but then I get tired. Sunday at my half marathon should be fun.

Congratulations on getting started again saph! Take your time and recover well.

I've been doing a lot of running since January. After my long run last weekend, I'm afraid I have to resign from the club. While I still question the accuracy of the posted distance for that run, I believe I'm no longer properly representing the spirit of this august institution. Good luck with your running everyone!

I wanna join this club!

I'm seriously at 16 mm pace for a regular run (or even slower) and my race pace PR (this year!) is 14:29 per mile. Yeah, I think I fit right in here...

I'm training for a 1/2 marathon in May, plus various and assorted other races. Next race is Saturday it is a 12k, I am HOPING to break 2 hours.

wish me luck!

I am happy to see this thread/club resurrected!! I will gladly be a member. But I will start at the walking stage as I continue to heal my plantar fasciitis. I have been doing more swimming than anything, but have also been slipping in some spin classes as well as an ocassional bike ride outdoors.

As soon as I think I am able (like perhaps sometime this or next week) I will start walking and time myself for a mile and report in here.

Thanks for doing this -- it is just what I need!

Read a few more posts on here.  If anyone wants to join in on a basic challenge for this month, I think it would be good to post goals for March and see how we do.

I, personally, do NOT track by miles because I am so slow - the mileage amount seems too pathetic.

Goals for March (and what do you guys think if we update weekly how we are doing?)

(1) Run 4x per week - at least 15 min per session.
(2) Run at least 3 hours every week.

I think this puts me at about 10 miles per week, but don't hold me to that.

I want to play to! Just started my training. Ran two miles the other day at just over a 15 mile pace! Still have a way to go for that 10 minute mile haha, so I'll probably be here for a while. Lets keep each other motivated, we'll get there eventually.

I want to join you guys! I think however, that April will be a better month for me to really participate since I am continuing my treatment for plantar fasciitis. Today I will count as my first walk (did 2 miles) of a plan to walk 3 days a week for at least 30 minutes. I won't count miles yet nor will I time my walks for March. I will just use the remainder of the month to be my starting point.

I hope we will do this again in April so I can track some numbers with our club here. I'm thinking of April being a month to track time not miles, and see how I do.

Let's keep this going. I can really use this club for some motivation.

Hey, just posting how the week went (would love to see some other people posting how they are doing... come on... it's nice in here!)

Anyway.  Ran 3x this week, which included a 12k race which I finished in 2:05 which is an average pace of 16:46 per mile.  Feel really good about this week overall, although I am very sore today from the run.  Did not hit my goal of running 4x this week, but I did make my goal of 3 hours.  On to next week.

Next week:
Goals  - Run 4x this week, run for at least 3 hours.  Based on my schedule should be easily doable.

Anyone else have goals for the week they want to post?

I'm happy that you are posting! I for one want this "club" to continue.

My goal is to walk 3 times this week for 30 minutes. Unless my doc says for me not to do this while I am still working on that pf problem, this should be an easy goal.

My plan is to walk Monday, Wednesday and Friday. I will check in with my sucesses.

hey nancy and cadreamer

how is it going?

good news on the slow buggers front - i managed to run yestreday! i think it was only 1200 metres but i managed most of it barefoot and pain free

did you both hit your goals? mine is just to build my running up slowly and mainly barefoot, stay itb pain free, and within a few weeks hopefulyl be running 3 times weekley for a mile each time.  its weird that for months i've not wanted to run and been so pissed off about my previous itb pain, yet this experiement seems to be working and gotten me excited again! yay

Hey Sappho -- nice going with your itb rehab and slow start. As for me --- I didn't quite hit my goal of three walks this week but will maintain that for the following week. I did do one walk and my feet were somewhat OK. My doc says walking is OK, but no jog or runs yet. Will keep checking in here.

Carry over goal of 3 30 minute walks this week.

I run my weeks from Monday through Sunday, so my week is not over yet.

So far I have run around 2:35 and run 3x. I'm planning on doing a short easy run on sunday of about 20 minutes (but maybe I should just go for 25 so I can make my time goal.) My legs are feeling tired though so I'm not going to push it just to meet an arbitrary number.

Overall I'm feeling good and like I'm progressing. Still ramping up for the 1/2 marathon I'm planning in May.

I'll check back in this weekend with next week's goals and how I did - keep up the good work everyone!

Once again: This week 4x running 3 hours total (at least)  Planning the long run of 2 hours this week - got only 5 weeks left til the half marathon!

I'm in! I run about a 12 minute mile now. I have only run 2.5 miles at once since graduating from H.S. I used to run an eight average on 5ks in high school cross country...thats what I'm shooting for.

I weigh a bit more and there's no coach telling me "the faster you run, the sooner you're done...pasta for all when you are finshed!" now

Maybe I need to do that.

I'll join in! I wish I could find somebody in my area who is a slow bugger so I'd have a training partner, but everybody is so fast to me.

I've been working to become a runner since late December. (Before I walked.) I have jogged continuously for 3.1 miles on the treadmill, but not outside. I generally do 12:30 mm at this point on the treadmill.

My goals for this month is to build to jogging three times a week. I'm training for 5K in late April. It's my goal to jog that entire event.

For the remainder of this week, I plan to do a mini-indoor triathlon with some jogging tonight, go hiking Friday if it's not snowing and then do a jog outside if possible on Saturday or Sunday.

Hey, everyone! I want to join the group. 10:00 seems to be a magic number for me (I am always close to it in training), although I was over 11 in the 1/2 marathon that I did in January. This year I am focusing on sprint races and trying to improve in all three disciplines (okay, four - my transitions are horrible! - my wife says that I am too dainty because I always need to go to the porta potty and change clothes, but that's a post for another occasion...). I really want to get my run times under a ten minute average consistently. Anyone using any strategies that seem to be working?

Well Bhannahs remember no nudity allowed so your not that danity but you could try and use tri shorts and just not change.

I have no one to run with in my group but I have embrashed it. I always start early so people will pass me through out my workout. It helps keep me going. Plus this way I can run more by HR than by there pass would if I could keep up would cause my HR to go hrough the roof. Plus now I am doing more miles than everyone else because it will help me drop the weight. I am more concerned now about weight lose than my training since weight lose will make me faster and once I have the weight lose I can push it in other areas.
