Okay now I'm confused... I'll turn 25 on Nov. 13 this year, meaning I should be in the 25-29 AG, right? However with IMKS I'm in the 19-24. Here's a post from Daremo on the topic: USAT rules state that you will compete in the AG that you will turn that year. Which sucks for those with late birthdays as that means you will "age up" January 1st to the [next] age group even though you won't be [that age] until the end of the year. And even if you sign up as a certain age group they will still place you in the correct one based on the rules. HOWEVER ..... WTC and NAS events will typically have you as age on race day ignoring USAT rules. It will clearly state that in the registration process usually. I can't find anything on the IMKS website about it. Perhaps that's why Climbin' is in the lower AG too? |

Expert 939 Tulsa | Subject: RE: IM Kansas 70.3 I just read that that NAS rules (which are the rules for all the M dot races) say that you race in the age group that you fit in on race day. So if you are 24 on race day, but turn 25 before then end of the year, you still race in the 20-24 AG I got a packet for IMCali 70.3 that i'm competing in and thats what it said. Pro 4339 Husker Nation | Subject: RE: IM Kansas 70.3 Thought I would post in this thread since pretty much everybody who's doing the race is probably subscribed to it. My wife and I will most likely be in Lawrence on Saturday picking up our new doggie. This will probably be the only justification I will be able to come up with in the next 11 weeks before the race to get down there and try to ride the course. Is anybody else free on Saturday, most likely in the AM for a ride of the course? I'll also need advice on things to propose for my wife to do while I'm out there. She's not really a shopper and I don't know that she'd go for spending 2.5-3.5 hours in a coffee shop doing nothing. I want to get around 2 hours in, but if I'm feeling good I'd be up for 3. Just have to be mindful of the time with the wife because we do still have to go home together Weather forecast for Saturday as of right now is Partly cloudy, 43 LOW 62 HIGH, 20% chance of precipitation. They don't give an indication of what the wind will be but, c'mon... it's Kansas. It's looking like a 3 or more hour drive and I'm not sure when the adoption place opens or closes so depending on the timing of all that I'd like to begin around 10:00 but may have to get the dog first and start later. If nobody's interested I'm still going to give it a shot so if nothing else I'll let you guys know what I think when I get back! |

I'm sure this fits in with exactly 0 schedules but just wanted to update in case someone was trying to figure out scheduling for this weekend. Wednesday will be a "mostly cloudy" day sandwiched between two rainy days so here's to hoping the weather holds out! |

Master 1730 Atlanta, GA | Subject: RE: IM Kansas 70.3 This seems like the running IMK 70.3 thread, so I am going to jump in and go a different direction than recent posts. I am coming in from Atlanta for the race. I had a few course questions for the locals. I saw some brief information prior on the bike course. Can anyone give a more detailed description on the elevation gains? Is there any REAL climbing? If there is wind (ha ha), is it more likely a head wind out or back? Is the run flat? If not, could I get a take on the difficulty of the hills? I am trying to come out on business and drive the bike course. I am attempting to make sure my workout courses prepare me for the event. I messed this aspect up on my HIM in the Fall and paid dearly. Last thing, any advice on a bike shop in the city? I am staying near the Plaza. I want a back up plan if the bike transport has "issues". Thanks!

Head or tail wind? Which way does the wind blow? If the wind is blowing you will get both due to the route. Some climbs, you have a strong bike, shouldn't be an issue. I have ridden the area and part of the route on a OLY last year, never left my big chain ring. Think TREK has a store near the Plaza? Bike Source is another great store and shop @ 135th and Quivera. Watch out for the Kujo at the last bike turn around! |

Veteran 200 Golden, CO | Subject: RE: IM Kansas 70.3 From a couple of recent posts on Slowtwitch regarding the demise of the Big O, sadly too far for me to travel for what looks like a great training day. Here is what we have planned for the Weekend of May 4th. Everyone is welcome to come. Myself and the great guys at Enduracamps (www.enduracamps.com) will be hosting a formal training day at the Ironman 70.3 Kansas race site. Preliminary Schedule: May 4th at Clinton Lake Bloomington Park (FYI:park fee is like $4-5) 9:00 a.m. 1500 meter swim 40 mile bike 5 mile run These distance will be on the IMKS course. SAG/a couple of aid stations provided. Course will be marked but not manned. Bring some cash or a sack lunch. We'll send someone on a food run while everyone is out riding. Spouses and kids are encouraged to come...mine will be there and would enjoy the company. There are worse ways of spending a Saturday! Check out www.enduracamps.com for an update or email me [email protected] for questions. Anyone interested in helping out please email me as well. Maybe the guys from Enduracamps can chime in if they think of something else... and this: That's right, for anyone who wants to swim, ride or run the course we will be out there on May 4th. So don't sweat missing out on a pre race training opportunity, the guys at Kansas 70.3, EnduraCamps and everyone at GU Sports will take care of it. Here is what we are looking at: 08:00-09:00 Open water swim at the beach (you gotta pay the $5 fee) 08:00-08:20 Open water swim technique/strategy clinic on the beach. Totally optional. 09:00-12:00 Run and Bike course open for training. Race Directors from Kansas 70.3 will mark the course using same markers/signs as race day, they will also be at the event as they will love to hear your feedback. Our crew will have a SAG vehicle with pumps and tires available on the course- probably should pack your gear though just in case. We will also set up an aid station back in Transition area stocked with GU and GU2O as well as water and some snacks. Transition area will be marked off and we will post a person there to watch over the gear at all times(We are in no way responsible for you gear though). 09:00-09:30 (Optional) EnduraCamps will have a short clinic on racing your best 1/2 Ironman and basic pointers for the race. 12:00-12:30 (Optional) EnduraCamps will have a short clinic on racing your best 1/2 Ironman and basic pointers for the race. We will repeat it for people that want to get straight to the bike or that might miss it. You should be able to get plenty of good training in that day, so come out and join in. Best part? The price..... Free-Ninety-Nine If you can email us and let us know your coming so that we can get our numbers inline, that would be great. [email protected] We will hold a drawing for those who give us a heads up and give away some Kansas 70.3 swag! We might even give away Tom Z's car to one lucky winner (maybe not). [email protected] Hope that helps! |
