Extreme Veteran 5722 | Subject: RE: Manatee Mentors 2014--CLOSED (begging & bribes MAY work) Originally posted by cdban66 Race didn't go as planned, but I am happy with the final result anyway. Outlook is the key for me and I try to find the good in it all. I am truly blessed to be able to do this and I hope that I continue to race with desire and happiness. If it ever stops being fun, then I'll look at it differently. http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=511075&posts=1&page=1 Marc, I am really impressed with your swim meet. Who we are is so much more important than how we race. You give so much back to the community as a whole through your contributions here and elsewhere. Thank you for that example. Kate, it is really cool that you were able to race with a friend. So nice to have those shared experiences with others. Enjoy the week! Thanks. I read your race report, well done. I only had my ego hurt, I didn't twist any body parts to finish my race :-) I am off for my -24c run because tomorrow I will be in Clermont Florida and when get back, Canada will have won the Olympics, and there will be no more snow. OK, maybe one of those two predictions will come true. |

Melon Presser 52116 | Subject: RE: Manatee Mentors 2014--CLOSED (begging & bribes MAY work) Originally posted by 4agoodlife Thanks. I was really pissed . I took my stuff and said screw this. Went back home Then I got home and I was even more pissed, so I went back to the pool. I did the 100m, managed to not get DQ'd. managed to qualify for Masters world's that are in Montreal this year (home town). I did go talk to the ref, was very polite, but told this was supposed to be for fun, we are not at the Olympics. I really did not feel like sticking around another 3 hours for the 800 so I went home and ran I did this to gauge my swim fitness, but swim meets are really not for me.
Ok, so the situation sucked, but that ^^^ was funny!
cantstopraffing here either. Ah, Marc, tres bien! PBs are PBs no matter what, though; they can be set off the wall in training, practice, whatever, so that effen counts. And you're in for Montreal. So there, son! |

Melon Presser 52116 | Subject: RE: Manatee Mentors 2014--CLOSED (begging & bribes MAY work) Hiya lovely Manatees! Reading everything, laughing and crying with the posts (often both at the same ones--sometimes for the same reason, ha!) ... just letting myself succumb to some deep fatigue. Seriously, going out and running errands requires a 5-hour nap upon return. Probably just some post-viral stuff shaking itself out, I gotta go with it. So much love and thank yous to everyone who's checking in on me! |

Master 7712 Orlando | Subject: RE: Manatee Mentors 2014--CLOSED (begging & bribes MAY work) Originally posted by 4agoodlife First off, thank you for all the inspires and happy thoughts and virtual cheers for this weekend's awesome experience. I'm getting started on RR soon. I didn't do as well as I'd hoped, but aside from a couple of things that were out of my control, I am very happy with my overall performance. 4:55 was finish time. Tom didn't run HM because of knee, so we couldn't do a race meet up. Hope everyone else's races went well and Valentine's weekend was fun. Congrats! Now, when's the next one |

You are in for a jolt to your system - it will be in the 80*s F when you get down here! And USA will be winning the Olympics, or at least winning the USA v Canada battle |

I realized I learned a lot and was reminded of others, most notably that 1) I will do another full mary at some point, and 2) my husband and I really make a good team. |

Veteran 659 East Texas | Subject: RE: Manatee Mentors 2014--CLOSED (begging & bribes MAY work) Ok Swimming Experts My swim training this morning called for swim drills called FIST where I made fist as I swam. It sucked!! What is the point of this drill? I'm sure it's teaching me something but what? I felt like I had no control in the water and like I was just splashing around. Surprisingly I actually maintained slightly slower than my threshold pace which was really shocking. Any ideas? |

I can think of 2 things A closed fist is much more effective when smacking someone during a race start. I AM KIDDING. Canadians are totally non violent. I think it's to get you to feel the pull with your forearm. |

And more at times if you really get it. I remember first getting this drill and then opening up my hands after. The water felt as solid as mud. Much improved hold, at least for a little while. |

Master 1970 Somewhere on the Tennessee River | Subject: RE: Manatee Mentors 2014--CLOSED (begging & bribes MAY work) Sorry I haven't been around lately. My home computer died and I have been loathe to replace it. It was one of the last G4's. Haven't been to the apple store to replace it and I'm not going to make a special trip just for this. I'm making do with my iphone at home . The mobile site is annoying. I reffed two high school soccer games last and it did not tax me physically. That was a pleasant surprise and indicates my current level of fitness. The weather is finally warming up and I'm ready to get back on the road and get in a long ride this weekend. Thinking seriously about running the Huff 'n' Puff on the Bluff 15k in a couple of weeks. Marc's post reminds me of why I don't care to swim masters. Edited by MadMathemagician 2014-02-19 8:46 AM |

I am having 3 wisdom teeth removed next monday I am contemplating whether to do a local or general anesthesia. The Dr. said its my choice. I've only had general once about 20 years ago and I was sick for two days. Thoughts? ETA: The Dr. is a triathlete so, of course, I asked him how much training I would miss Edited by rrrunner 2014-02-19 10:31 AM |

While I think general may have been more pleasant (or less unpleasant?), I kinda figure there is less risk with local, y'know? |

Master 7712 Orlando | Subject: RE: Manatee Mentors 2014--CLOSED (begging & bribes MAY work) Originally posted by rrrunner I had all 4 taken out about 5 years ago and I had them knock me out! It is the only time I've ever been sedated ( medically speaking) and it was great! One minute I was sitting in the chair counting backwards and the next I was being told it was all over. I did end up a bit nauseous for about a half hour or so afterward, but other than being groggy and wanting to sleep for a couple of hours that I had no issues. I was also lucky in that I really didn't have much post OP pain.Ok, question for the pod...
