Lol - the bike rack was ordered yesterday morning and will be installed by next Monday for us to pick up the new beast!  Sadly, no name yet - I think I have to drive it for a bit first, but I'm open to suggestions!!

It's hard for me to believe, but we'll be driving to Austin starting July 4th which is coming up WAAAAAY too quickly!

I believe I called the 7/4 th date a while ago. Do I win a prize of some kind?

Oh wow, you really just said that?? Please take note, the correct number of bikes is n+1 or s-1

What's s-1?  I'm starting to become indoctrinated myself.  Getting the new roadie tomorrow and I'm already thinking about either buying a hybrid or finding some wider tires for the roadie so I can ride on dirt trails as well as paved.  I'll probably go with the wider tires for starters; they're a little cheaper.  On the other hand, DH finally decided to sell his tri bike (which hasn't been used since 2007) so there's more room for me to get another.

The S represents the number is the number at which your significant other would leave you over the number of bikes you have.  Ergo, at S-1, you're safe!

ETA:  Dangit - Kirsten beat me to it!!!

.  Nice wheels!

Oh good.  I'm nowhere close to s-1.  He has a 20 y.o. mountain bike that he refuses to get rid of because he likes the way it fits.  However, I was the last one to ride it and that was in 2009!  If he can do that, I can definitely buy more.  The biggest problem we have is storage.  No garage and despite constant nagging kind suggestion on my part, DH refuses to put a bike shed in the backyard.

BTW, if anybody's interested, the bike he has for sale is a 48 cm. Cervelo One - 2002 model.  Components are mix of 105/Ultegra/Dura Ace.  Profile Design carbon fork.  Definitely less than 1K miles on it.  Probably < 500mi.  Sadly, it's too small for me and I can't ride in that aero of a position because of my hip surgeries.  Otherwise, I'd totally snap it up.  He says he's going to post it here on BT, but that was last week and he hasn't gotten to it yet.  If anybody's interested, PM me and I'll put you in touch with him about price, etc.

Emily - in the mantra of the Manatees... DOOOOOOOOO EEEEEEEEEEEEEET!!  You've already got the swim & run distances down - you GOT this!

Stacey - REALLY glad to hear the knee is healing up and nothing showed on the images, take it easy and get better!

Jonathan - it's okay to cheat on tris, we've all done it at some point, and we know you'll be back.     Besides, the correct number of bikes to have is always n+1

Judi - YAY for Disney!!!  Tony and I will be making the trip to Orlando hopefully next March to check it out... and I want to go to Universal for the Harry Potter stuff.  Yep, I'm that much of a geek an I don't care!

Salty - we already found Barton Springs Pool!  It's kept at a constant temp of 70*F year round... can't WAIT!  And yes, we're making sure to get a big enough place to be able to have all of our freeloader visiting friends come and stay.

I was down for the count yesterday with my cold turning into a nasty sinus infection and now I've got antibiotics for it.  I'm also kind of freaking out that a week from tomorrow will be my last day of work.  EEEEEK!   Oh, and we bought a car.     This one...

Mini Countryman

Hope that vehicle has air condition.   Y'all are going to need it.    It's not a luxury down here, it an outright necessity. It is necessary life support.

ok, so N+1 is however many you have , but one more. What is S-1?

As I've been thoroughly informed by my fellow Manatees (see their subsequent comments), s-1=1 less bike than will push your significant other to leave you.  As in, "I only have 10 bikes but if I buy 1 more, my DH will file for divorce."

I think I had Matt winning that race, so I am a little bummed on that.

I think we had a frosty drink resting on this one too

Nice try!

Well, if y'all (see how I'm adapting?) make it to Austin, cold ones are on me!  I truly hope that happens, all other bets aside.

Monica - good luck on the drive (that will be a loooooong day!).  We're targeting getting there the last week in July (we'll be in West Lake - so not too far from y'all…  WOW, that "y'all" thing is easy!).

Salty, thanks for the tips.  Mi couch es tu couch for ANY festival.

And what's with the Manatee madness these last couple days?  AG podiums, gore at races, people questioning whether they have enough bikes (NEVER!!), others getting into marathons in my soon-to-be-home state (awesome!) and such?  Almost too much to keep up with.

We got back at ~2am last night from house hunting.  Put one offer in on a house and looks like it might be a bidding war.  Fun (and I don't want to "play").  So, we have some alternatives, but it's always easier when it's easier (and having flights home from Newark canceled while in the air from Austin doesn't qualify as such - grabbed a puddle jumper to Providence, then a taxi to Boston and then grabbed our car and drove home to make the kids' end of year school "graduation" stuff - ugh!).

We'll see, but any place has room for a Manatee!!!

Matt

wow, sounds like your trip home was like planes, trains and automobiles!

It's crazy how the housing market has become a seller's market again.  It scares me a bit that we're going to have another "correction".  Bidding wars are no bueno  - i threw that in there b/c that is another phrase ya'll will need to master!

The trail was a muddy mess for a run tonight!  I'm going to have to revisit the idea of washing my shoes.  There were a number of trees down in the park from the storms we had yesterday.  Nothing too serious, but someone's going to have to get a chain saw in there.

Matt and Monica, This is probably the best way to ease y'all into our elevated temperatures here in Texas

Actually it is one of the oldest and largest cycling events in the Nation. Usually over 12,000 cyclist. I haven't confirmed if I'm going yet but I am really considering it. It's about a 4 hour drive from your new home which in Texas is just down the street

Bwaaaahahaaaa!  A pilot friend told me that when flying through Texas and stopping for the "hundred dollar hamburger" (making getting lunch the excuse to fly someplace), one of the airport people suggested driving about 120 miles for some good barbecue - without batting an eye!

That ride sounds awesome - will have to check it out.  I love suffering!

Matt

I’ll try to get to race reports as soon as is humanly possible. Kingsley and I are off to our 2nd honeymoon for our 3rd wedding (got that?) and hopefully it’s a wee bit more tolerable than v. 3.1 that we just got back from. Awesome pic from the Bali wedding:

HI SALTY! Glad you’ve bounced back from surgery with your usual aplomb (no, I did not just call you fat again) and are well into the game again.

TRIPLE CONGRATS {TANGEMELONS PRESSES}3

And good luck with the move to awesome Austin, you and McManatee!

Desert Rose – good stuff on your actual virtual races. Go gettem Tiger.

GOJOGO {MANATEE MELON PRESS} love.

Wondermoose -- WELCOME BACK. I love you and your weird cats. Congrats on a hell of a ride. The orange jersey was delightful.

Stace Face – nice new kicks and glad to hear Phil Face is on the up and up. Loved the pic of Dee/Dizzee on the bed with the other two Glad to hear nothing too major on the knee and it’s going well BUT TAKE IT EASY (pot, kettle, pot, kettle. Hahaha!)

Peach Melbo – you are a serious PR badazz. Hope the wounds healing up well.

Yay JOJO on losing your trailginity!

IronTejas – woohoo on Houston!

HANDS-MARIE CHAMPION!!!

Steeeepheeee – HOT. Especially the colours

Tigger – the Manatee motto is DOOOO EEEET … I think the Sprint will be great for you.

St. Jude – do you know I’ve never seen a manatee in the wild, and there are so many here?! I know! About that OTHER THING … wrong. Just so wrong.

Foxay! 1. Congrats. 2. Dirrrrty trail run!

The trail was a muddy mess for a run tonight!  I'm going to have to revisit the idea of washing my shoes.  There were a number of trees down in the park from the storms we had yesterday.  Nothing too serious, but someone's going to have to get a chain saw in there.

Nothing like adding a few obstacles to make your run more interesting.

I learned in this race that in order to finish the swim, you have to know where you are going. And in order to know where you are going, you have to learn to sight.

Find a mentor. Make a list of at least three people that you could approach for help, list your specific needs and then be courageous enough to begin asking.
