warning...  tri talk...  but I gotta tell...

I went running shoe shopping the other day.  I typically got to DSW and pick up a sale shoe in the brands I like.  I'm a pretty neutral runner, so just about anything works (NB, Asics, Nike)...

HOWEVER, this time they were all out of my size in everything EXCEPT for the Avia brand.  Never got them before and they were pretty cheap, which made me nervous.  Something like under 40 bucks.  BUT, this show was the "official" shoe of USAT.  Normally, they kind of stuff make my dry heave.  I'm not a fan of most things "official".  To me, that means it's usually a cheap arse product that paid some $$ to be called the "official" something so cheap bastards can feel like they got something special.

HOWEVER, in this case, these shoes are super comfy!  I ran 8 miles yesterday and they feel GREAT.  Now, I just hope they last.  That could be the deciding factor.

Glad they are working for you.

When the Avia rep came to our store he, too, went on about the same thing.  Even pulling out copies of Triathlete mag to show us how many times Avia came up.  What a DB.  If they're good shoes, sell them based on that.  No need for the hype.  And see... you like them regardless.

Yeah, but for $40, I'd be ok with buying two or three pairs in the time I'd normally buy one.

One or two styles of Avia are being sold at Costco - and they must be the cheapest version of running shoe that can be legally be sold.  $40 would be way too much to pay for 1 pair of those!

Sharyn5 - 2010-05-26 12:24 PM what's a reasonable price to pay? I bought a pair of nikes recently, for $75. I love them, very comfortable...but there were some $120 and up...I don't know if the fit would be that different, you all think?

I could tell you but then I'd have to kill ya... JK.  I sold running shoes for a while.  Ours started at $90 and went up from there.

The Asics I run in are around $100 but I get a discount with my tri club, 10 or 15%.
Careful switching running shoes though... I tried that once and the heel rubbed my achilies so raw it bled every time I put them on. Never again! I'll run in what I know works from now on.
