Miss Kitty Litter sounds like a great idea!!  You could call her Kit(t) for short (silly reference to "Nightrider," if you're old enough to remember that).

My friend drives from Denver to Wisconsin (16 hrs) or to Steamboat Springs (3.5 hrs) with her cat fairly regularly.  All he does is meow piteously except if he's either draped on the dashboard or sitting in her lap.  Then again, he's 10 and has lots of car experience.

Probably shouldn't tell you this but another friend who was moving from MA to CO had her cat disappear in TN from the UHaul where he was stowed overnight.  He was captured 2 weeks later and they had to go back to get him because it was too hot for him to fly cargo.  She was pretty annoyed.

World Cup update:  US lost but so did Portugal so US advances.

Anybody out there listening/watching the world cup?  I got to watch the first half during lunch.  Now on the radio.

We need to score.  In the meantime, go Portugal?

I was listening on a terrible radio, and texting with my step brother who lives in Germany, has dual citizenship, and was rooting for the USA at a party with all of his German buddies

Monica, I have a friend who is pretty much a Crazy Cat Lady.  She used to breed and show cats.  She stopped that years ago but still has a cattery and all the retired ones.  And a golden retriever (who is allergic to cats).  Anyway, I figured that maybe she had some traveling with cats advice.  I'll let you know what she has to say.

We moved ours from Omaha to Albuquerque. They were in a large kennel while we were driving and were left to roam the car at night. A bit noisy but no damage (smell or otherwise) to the car.

A Mini looks nothing like a DeLorean!

The US lost but Portugual beat Ghana so the US advances.  I think that the next game is on Tuesday.

Well, I was obviously following closely!   KITT was a black Trans-Am if I recall correctly.  Maybe there was a remake with a DeLorean?  In 7th grade, my friend and I decided that we were going to write an episode for that show.  We didn't get very far with it.

Janyne, any advice at all would be greatly appreciated - thank you!!

TJ - everything I've read so far has said to make sure they're in a big enough kennel to stand and roam a bit, have water available for them but no food unless feeding them when you're stopped especially if you haven't traveled with them before and don't know if they might get car sick, and have a disposable littler box they can use in the car.  The big problem right now is that Felix doesn't squat to pee.... he's a sprayer, so I'm not sure how to keep that from getting everywhere!  I don't want the new car smelling like cat pee!!!

Usually over 12,000 cyclist. I haven't confirmed if I'm going yet but I am really considering it. It's about a 4 hour drive from your new home which in Texas is just down the street http://www.hh100.org/

Bwaaaahahaaaa!  A pilot friend told me that when flying through Texas and stopping for the "hundred dollar hamburger" (making getting lunch the excuse to fly someplace), one of the airport people suggested driving about 120 miles for some good barbecue - without batting an eye!

That ride sounds awesome - will have to check it out.  I love suffering!

Matt

Please check it out! I've never gone this will be my first time but have many friends that do it every year. They say it is an amazing experience. You need to book a hotel asap tho as you can imagine everything within 100 miles sells out fast.

The last few rest stops serve beer and brats in addition to the beer at the finish line. Just google Hotter'n Hell 100 and you'll see plenty of amazing reviews.

And as you can imagine and as the name implies it is warm out there. Average temps are 107-110.

This is what my Crazy Cat friend said:

Did the guy from California just let the cats run loose in the car?   Cat needs to be in a carrier when in the car.  Always.  They can get their head or body stuck behind the brake or gas pedal, can do all KINDS of dangerous stuff.  In the carrier!   Have her take a water bowl, and regular sized litter pan in the car.  Put the litter pan on the floor behind the front seat with a layer of newspaper underneath it.  Take a litter scoop, plastic bags and wet wipes for cleaning up.   When she stops for gas or food, put the cat into the litter pan and offer a small amount of water at that time too.   When taking cat out of carrier and into litter pan be sure all doors and windows are CLOSED.  (Trust me)   Cats can go a pretty long time without needing a litter pan really.   I've driven mine all over the place -- to NC and Texas without incident.

Lol - also NO to Miss Kitty Litter!!!  NOOOOO!

I don't think we'll let them roam about the car - the last time Tony did that with a cat, the cat got stuck under the pedals while driving, and I don't really want that to happen... or have one of them jump out.  Poor kitty, but man o' man, would I ever be pizzed with the cute little furry jerk!

I do not envy needing to take cats on a 17 hr. car ride.

It was Knightrider. KITT was a solid black TransAm. Nothing on about this car resemebles KITT. KARR was a prototype that picked up a weird grey lower body section, but also still doesn't look anything like this. They tried rebooting the series just a few years ago, but it was with a Mustang and still solid black. At best you could try saying this would be a Devon Miles inspired version, but even that would be a reach.

I'm just gettin' schooled left and right here.  First bike #s, then World Cup results, then Knightrider trivia.  Sheesh.  Maybe I just need to keep my darned ignorant mouth shut.  Naaah, keeps things lively.  Nothing incites responses on BT quicker than wrongness.

Monica, you could go with "Reo" - short for Oreo plus the name of a classic car company, Reo Motor Car Company.  (This time I did a little research.  Here's info from ever-reliable Wikipedia:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/REO_Motor_Car_Company)

Find a mentor. Make a list of at least three people that you could approach for help, list your specific needs and then be courageous enough to begin asking.
