Sounds like a big weekend for a lot of folks!  Congrats to all racers.... Impressive!

Also Tracy- Very Impressive.  It would be easy to find a way to get on a trainer, treadmill, or skip your workout--- Remember that work out 70 miles into Canada next year!

Hello MG. Great races everyone! Tracy, I saw Marty my coach saturday night and we both agreed to drop our 2 hour outdoor ride set for sunday due to the snow and 40 degree weather. I guess we're wimps.

Bad news is my PT said I should not race anything longer than an olympic until the end of the summer. That means no 1/2 at Rev3. I would try to switch to the olympic, but the Events Director of the woodworking grooup I run set the the annual meeting for 5/14! D'oh!! I will probably defer my entry until 2012 at Knoxville. Oh well.

PT continues and I am getting a lift for my left shoe this week.

As someone who faced that exact issue for Lonestar, I feel your pain.    Would you ever consider doing what I did?  I really enjoyed doing the swim (well not really!) and the bike knowing I had to hang it up afterwards.  While I would have loved to do the whole thing, it satisfied my need to race and I got to meet Fatty, Trevor, Sam and Tony, Andy and the list goes on.

I know I said this before so ignore me if you want to, but please be careful with a lift vs a full insert.

what up peeps!  jarrett and i are home safe.  another AWESOME time.  it was so great to meet kim and kelly and their better half's!  I hope kathy is feeling better kim.  and always fun spending time with trev and michelle.  sorry we missed dj and chet.

huge congrats to all the racers we had running this weekend.  julia you're a nut.  i love it!   way to go glen!!!!   and of course racing with some of the crew in vegas.   i can't really explain what its like actually racing with you guys.  its almost surreal and a whole lot of fun.  i know we're all here because of triathlon, but man, running races are so much easier for these get together's.   and a bit cheaper!   that said,  there was some discussion about a fall race over on the west coast.   maybe san fran or seattle.

nice job tracy!  AWESOME pic!!!  i love dogs for lots of reason, one of which is there ability to go where ever and whenever.  sometimes when they are taking a dump they just stare at you and seem to say you like what you're looking at, jerk.

i have some pics from the weekend that i'll post when i get a chance.  i'm dead tired right now so going to the rack.  a little excitement landing in atlanta... seems our landing gear wasn't all the way down and pilot didn't notice until we were about 20 feet off the deck.  yeah, as i mentioned the other day, i hate flying!

thanks for a wonderful weekend!  especially kyla and suzy for keeping kim and i updated on the others progress as we couldn't get updates from where we were.

race report is here

Kim are you shorter than Suzy?

kim has a few inches on suz.  i was surprised how much taller she was than i pictured her after all this "twin" talk.  and surprised how tall kelly is.

sounds like the vegas group had a ton of fun and great races.  Some very fast times, very impressive.

Sorry haven't been around for awhile.  I've been traveling a ton and working on some interesting transactions and got my first LARGE investor.  Huge hurdle for me.  Hopefully it's a sign of the times..  Unfortunately my workouts have been limited to 2-3 times a week and I feel like i'm out of shape, already gained 5 lbs since my tri..  It's weird to think that now I think that i'm out of shape even though last Friday I ran over 6 miles and then played 1 hr of basketball, I guess it's all relative..  especially to this super healthy group.

Not sure what the rest of the US is like but there is a horrible flu going around in NYC.  I've seen a few people wearing masks so they don't catch it..   Everyone, stay healthy..

I didn't want to rain on the Vegas good times last week but I've got some rotten personal news.  Remember my giving thanks for surviving the economic down turn over Thanksgiving? Well I spoke too soon.  Last Thursday I was informed my position has been "reorganized" and we all know what that means.   In a very short time Tracy will be out of a job!!  Our first choice is to stay in the area but we are exploring all options.  Eugene Oregon,  Fredrick MD and Madison WI are all on the short list.  Who knows, I might be racing with Steve, Kyle, and Ryan; or Tony, Sam and Linda; or Suzy and Dave next year.  Hey Rob, need an assistant? No RR here but I'll give my own version of a Trip Report.

John and Trevor should never be in the same room together.  Trouble will only ensue.   Kim, is sweet as can be as if being the fastest woman around isn't enough.  Jarrett is John's wife and therefore a saint.  Melissa (Trevor's wife) is gullible and falls for Trevor's button pushing.   I loved getting to meet everyone and can't wait to do it again.

As John said, getting together for marathons is so much easier than tris.  My suggestions are:

The Big Sur Marathon- Is likely to be brutal but the scenery would be awesome and is in a great part of the state.  I think it's only 3000ppl so we'd have to sign up for 2012 as soon as registration opens.  They have a great video of the course.  http://www.bsim.org/site3.aspx

My other destination race that is on my list is..

Avenue of the Giants-  This is the race that goes through the Red Woods in Northern California.  The website says it's fairly flat which I like.   http://theave.org/

Has anyone done either of these?  Anyone interested in 2012?  Both races are in May.

Tracy...this sucks!

Keep your head high and try to remember that sometimes this kind of stuff turns into a  blessing in disguise a couple of years down the road.  Oh, and come to Madison / Milwaukee (they are only an hour apart)......we would love to have ya!

If you are looking for some contacts, etc. when you really start looking, PM me and we can talk off-line to see what I can do for you......   I also know Suzy's Paul is very "connected" in Madison.

No, no, no ,no no! After losing Harold last year I refuse to let any of the other triathletes leave NC!! And besides you work two building over from me. Get your boss on the line I need to talk to her/him!!

On another point I just read (this AM) in Runner World (page 28) that the Big Sur Marathon is capped at 4K runners, has a two mile climb at mile 10 (Hurricane Point) and at mile 13 a pianist in a tux plays "Chariots of FIre." I bet he gets sick of that song after a few hours!

Tracy - I'm so sorry to hear your news, and I wish you the best in your job search. While I hope you can stay where you want to be, the places on your short list sound pretty nice, too.

Re: Big Sur - I've run it, and at least a couple of others in the MG have as well. It's a great race, and would be a fun one to do as a group. There's a lot to do in the area for families, including the awesome Monterey Bay Aquarium. The two-mile hill isn't as bad as everyone makes it out to be (and this is coming from someone who lives in the flatlands), and you have the Taiko drummers to help you get to the top. It's the hills in the last 5 miles that get you!

So sorry about the job, Tracy. Best of luck and you always have a place to crash here if you need it!! Keep the chin up and keep us posted, OK?

I did Big Sur back in 2003. It was the first thing on my "I will do this before I die," list that I accomplished. (Ironman was the second, I still have two more items and then I'm done!!)

Anyway, it's a positively gorgeous race. I did it nice and slowly (this was right as my 2nd turned one), using Galloway, and I think I walked most hills. The post-race support is amazing, and you won't find a more scenic course, I don't think. It's very special.

Would love to do a redwoods run! There are so great races out this way too, of course... many that I haven't done yet!! May is still pretty gloomy here. If you want the absolute best Seattle-area weather, best to come after July 4!

Oh, and Kim said she wasn't sore the day after Vegas. So yeah, I'm thinking maybe she slacked off a bit. Geeeeez!!!  That said, 5th in your AG is pretty darned amazing. Great job, Kim.

And love the new avatar, Julia!!Smiling snow runner!!!

Really behind on the chatter and still stuck in another all day meeting, but....

Tracy--what do you do?  Dineen's right, the man is connected.  He owns a software company, consults to a bio sciences company and is heavy into teaching at the university.  Come to Madison...we have an IM you know! and three lakes....and the list goes on.

Fatty--enough with the Kim is taller crap, ok?

Kelly--have fun doing BS--driven the course and it's beautiful.  I know Kim has run it before

That's it....back to spreadsheets, powerpoints and too much arguing.  Big presentation tomorrow!!!

PS. A friend sent this to me. I am sure this is what Paul thought in the beginning.... I am an IRONMAN you know.

you're right.  making fun of people's size is not the right thing to do.  it's mean. totally uncalled for.  and frankly, immature.
