Expert 1322 Savannah | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread KathyG - 2011-10-26 9:25 PM Guess what I fun IM prep I did today? I practiced changing my Zipp rear tube.....with disc cover had to change way I start to get my tire off. I put it on and off 7 or 8 times....my thumbs are bit sore. KathyG, which type of rim tape do you have on your Zipps? Tires are easier to install on Zipps if you use the thinner rim tape strips like those made by Zipp or Sram since they allow the tire to sit deeper in the rim itself. Therefore you don't have to stretch the tire as much. Cloth rimtape like Velox is a bear on Zipp wheels. Just a thought. |

Day Sunny High 76°F Overnight Low 53°F Precip 0% Wind: From SE at 8 mph Humidity: 74% UV Index: 5 Moderate Sunrise: 7:01 AM CT Avg. High: 76°F Record High: 85°F (1990) Not to be the party pooper, but that was the exact 10 day forecast last year too. Then 3-ish days before the race the temps suddenly plummeted! SE winds are not good though...that means you fight the wind at the end of the ride. |

I would rather fight an 8 kt wind at the end of the ride than have a 20 kt wind help me at the end, after I've been beaten to a pulp I know better than commit to believing weather reports prior to about 12 hours before the time. |

35 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread I agree that the weather is looking good; just hope it holds up esp. the wind. I will get there Tuesday around lunch and staying at Laketown Wharf. Look forward to swimming with the group on Wed. and Thur. I'm with the earlier post: I'm having aches and pains and hating the taper. I'm ready to get it on next week. Bike is tuned and ready to go. My wife did say that I didn't seem as concerned like last year. Not sure if that is good or bad. For instance, I usually do my shorter workouts early in the morning and I slept in until 7 both days. Good luck getting all your gear together and see you in less than a week. I will be volunteering on Wednesday at the info tent from 1-4:30 so come by and say hey. Denny

I am planning on getting in Wend. morning. Making the long drive from Ohio with the family starting Monday night after "Trick or Treat". Cant wait to get there and give it a go. We have all worked very hard over the last year and should be proud of what we have done so far just to get to the start line. But the best part will be at the finish line on Nov. 5th. Good luck to all and thank you for all the great information. So cool "you're from Sylvania, Oh.!!! I think we have talked before. I lived in the Toledo area for many years. Grew up in Perrysburg. Have done the Sylvania Budlite Tri 4 times up there at Orlander lake I still do the race at orlander. Our tri club swims there all the time. We can chat at the swim about toledo. |

Expert 1322 Savannah | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread For those rocking the carbon front wheel....what wheel will you be riding? Would an 808 be too much to handle with the potential winds? My choices are a Mavic Carbon Carbone(52mm) or Zipp 808(82mm) front. Disc will be in the back. I'lm 6'0", 166lbs. |

Champion 19812 MA | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread I came down with a cold yesterday and woke up feeling like crap. I took a long nap after dropping off the kids at school. On the bright side better to get it this week than next. Weather forecasts are wrong most of the time. I expect to have crappy weather and am happy when it is nice. IMLP didn't predict it would rain for 16 hours during the race; or IM Canada that it would be 95; last year IMFL they were close. While riding a couple days ago I was thinking of some of the comments on this thread about hating wind. I rode 4 hours and rode on three roads that make about 37' loop similar terrain to IMFL....many times. It was very windy for here, but it didn't bother me riding or frustrate me. I don't ride with my bike computer having speed showing. I wonder for those of you frustrated by the wind if seeing your speed drop on bike computer is what frustrates you or is it something different? I try to take away all things that can take me out of being moment focused while racing. My Joule has time of day show up in upper left hand corner, I called to see if that could be turned off....it can't so I'll tape over it. Speed, time and all those things can negatively effect me so I avoid them. At any given time I can only control what I'm doing right then not past or worry about the future. |

Can't speak for anyone else but I don't hate it, I just would prefer not having to deal with >10 kt headwind for any length of time, given my 'druthers. Expect the worst then all your surprises will be positive |

Yeah, I know I work into it after two hours or so and loosen up but feeling like I cannot walk after an hour bike ride bothers the snot out of me. |

Great questions and comments here.. It is what it is with weather and wind,,It's all part of the experience. It comes with cycling.. That's why we have gears and instincts and how our minds deal with diversity... accepting what ever the conditions is what it's all about... |

Veteran 239 Austin | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Ok, I talked to Kathy, and I ordered a box of 30 16g threaded. They will be here this weekend, and I will pack them in the truck. From the thread, I have Kathy, Socks, Mr. Boatman Millar, and booth22. I will bring them to the swim Thurs am and Fri am. I also picked up 15 tubes from performance cheap cuz they are changing the packaging and couldn't leave these on the shelf. Not that anybody mentioned them, but i will throw them in the truck in case anybody forgets theirs. Look for the guy in the "Cardiac Ironman" t-shirt. And I will post a pic this weekend of the race kit and bike, so you will know who has to pick up the cones on the "run". Your rides are awesome! |

I work in a hospital..........Fortunately most of my pts are broken and not sick but there it is. Did the race on the tail end of a hideous viral coughing thing. Hoping for good things this year. Hate the wind. I don't have hills, but I get wind and lots of it. You know the wind is a problem where you live when they annouce the daily wind speeds on the radio. I was stupid enough to try to ride in 40MPH wind a few weeks go. That will beat you down. Set your computrainer to about 250 watts and go at it. Great fun. NOT!! Edited by Socks 2011-10-27 1:09 PM |
