From bryan's log...

Rest Day

Well, I have joined the permament forum ban! It's been fun. I hope I have been able to help many folks and I appreciate the support everyone here has given me over the years. I think I will keep logging my training here as i do like the format.

Sucks.  But Ron is right in a way.  If he gave warnings, then that's just the way it's going to be.  I agree that BT and ST are like yin and yang...and each needs to maintain their style in order for both sites to not collapse.  While Bryan gave nothing but the best advise, and that many beginners (and advanced) athletes benefited from, his style is definately more ST like.  Not that there is anything wrong with that...it's just the way it is.  There are tons of great ST'ers that would never survive on BT.  That doesn't mean they aren't good people, have good wisdom, or that beginners should stay away from them.

"If" being the operative word, that may or may not be true depending on whom you believe.

I'll put it here because it will probably be deleted....  but my post today

But I would in the most polite way possible ask the mods to reconsider the action against bryancd.  This thread is not for BT bashing, or mod bashing - I was a mod once, it's not an easy job - so please don't do that (assuming the thread survives).  I know bryan likes to poke the bear now and then (not The Bear), and he can be a bit ...   blunt.. in his delivery, but I think his signal to noise ratio is extremely high, and that he is an invaluable contributor to the board and BT community, and it would be a great loss to lose such a resource.

I've never thought to write a thread like this, but I think it's warranted in this case.

Just my .02

good post Chris, it wont last an hour though, and it might get a few more of us banned,  but it will be well worth it

I dunno, it's still there, longer than I thought    If people keep it civil, it mght be a good discussion of board policies.  Like I said, I've moderated here, so I've seen the backstage area, the threads in purgatory, and it's not easy.  A little transparency might help people understand why the mods do what they do sometimes.  We'll see I guess.

I'd chime in on the thread, but it's frozen. He's an awesome resource.

It's nice to see someone that talented and dedicated provide open feedback to athletes of many levels...

Goosedog said it well "But, I cringe because his advice usually involves hard work, patience, sacrifice, consistency and more hard work.  This type of advice is something we all, new or not, need to hear.  His advice and knowledge was the type I do come here to get.  Hopefully, that can continue."

Ok...back to the more important stuff I missed.  Congrats on the great racing this weekend, and even a new bike.

Capped off my first 200 mile week on the bike this year, and it's only going up from there.  I was going to ride to work (18 miles) today, but we're under a high wind warning right now.  Winds up to 30, gusting to 50.  It's supposed to calm down by the time I finish work, so I might ride home (brought the bike with me) and ride back to work tomorrow morning while leaving the car at work.

Stacy promised me a Corvette for my 50th.  I settled for a new bike.

Scott Foil 40 w/105 or a.k.a. Shimano yester-years Dura Ace so they say.

The bike weights in at 18.6 lbs as pictured.  That is 1.2 lbs heaver than my Scott CR1.  The ride is much smoother to me.

I had my second race of the season.  5th OA and 1St AG not bad for my ankle bothering me.

Yes, back to important stuf...  as in CONGRATS on the bike!!!!!!  And the placements.  And the birthday..   sounds like a great weekend overall

I enjoy Bryan's new blog title. Hahahahaha.

Sorry to see him banned, such a great contributor to the site. I like the tell it like it is approach. I think some people have gotten a bit too sensitive over what is said in an internet forum. Bryan called me out on something I said when I first joined this site about OWS swim starts and it made me think that maybe I had a lot to learn about triathlon and respecting other athletes who might not have the same confidence with the swim as I do. I have never felt he said anything out of line from what I saw. I'll just have to creep on his blog more often now I suppose.

Been busy with pediatrics but I've finally been getting in some good base level training. Signed up for IM California 70.3 and put my deposit down on a condo in Oceanside. Going to go down to race and study for my licensing exams for 2 weeks!

Had a trail race over the weekend in the Rockies. Tough course. Think I might try to add a trail run in weekly to help build my running fitness back up. Nothing like getting your a$$ kicked by the woods to get the mind and legs in gear!

Sign up for IM France in a week! Maybe Lance will race it next year if he can't this year! *fingers crossed*

Well not sure what you mean Chris.  Why do you think this post would be deleted?  It seams like a good discussion and not bashing anyone.

BT is a great site.  I refer many people here.  Frankly I was thinking about doing some of those free business card deals and putting BT web address on it.  So I could pass them out.

I read the reply Ron put in that thread LINK and unless there is something behind the seen it is a totally senseless ban. Bryan is a tell it like it is athlete.  That is very much needed.  To many times I see to much nurturing and not enough HTFU.  But that’s just me I guess.  Maybe is this particular instance not so much the case.  I did sayBryanwas always tactful.  But a permanent ban no way!

BTW I am PM’ing Ron and marmadaddy my thoughts; per Ron’s invitation and hopefully with some tact.

i am a conspiracy theorist, if you want my thoughts on the Bryan issue, i think there was a mod who had it out for him.

i think i know who it might be, and i have locked horns with this person before, and personally now avoid any thread they start.  Why they are a mod i will never know, they seem to have little input or information that does anyone any good, and quite honestly, i find the information they pass along frequently incorrect.

they seem to have an honest disdain for any controversy, and hate being told they are wrong, my personal feelings are people need to get some thicker skin and stop being internet wussbags with agenda's.

i really hope i am wrong in that one person beeching the most, persuaded Mike or Ron to pull the trigger on the ban.

seriously, if you can't handle a quote such as "who gives a " then really who does??  he merely put in type what 1000 people were thinking that never posted it.  Sometimes people need the hard truth.

i also feel outside of this mentor group, that this site is getting majorly dumbed down. Bryan may be the only one banned, but this site is losing many very valuable contributors besides him, due to this ban and the general lack of respect that some very good athletes get on this site. you can only tell someone the sky is blue so often, and if no one wants to listen to cold hard truth, you get sick of telling people. Then it becomes figure it out for yourself.

i'll step off my soap box now, but those are my feelings.

LOL, i did,

how many times did Tyson or Lance retire?

Certainly not for this year, but if for some reason i ever decide to do another, this one was always on my radar.  Also just trying to keep this group going, you know create some good conversation.

personally i think if he got 11 pm's thanking him for banning someone, there are 11 people with no sack of balls to stick up for themselves.

just my opinion, i am full of them this week, lol

and a minute later Ron's own thread is gone.

Yeah I know a bit about that race lol.

I won the M40-44 AG last year at Musselman.

Great event that I would HIGHLY recommend.

Better than most M-Dots IME.

Dual comeback in 2013??   HAHAHAHAHAHA

Fred D - 2012-06-19 2:00 PM So I have missed my first 2 tri's this year and will be in San Francisco for Musselman at a work course, so that's out. I am debating doing IMMT with the idea that I have the best bike fitness I have ever had in my life right now and up until mid May I was training pretty well. I would need to get back to the pool and see if I could get up to a 13-14 mile run at some point. It would not be a PR type ironman expectation and certainly no Kona thoughts at all, but it's probably my last chance to race ironman for a few years and heck I've already paid the community fund price. It would also be a hopefully small positive in a down tri year for me and would help erase some of the damage from IMWI last year.thoughts??

Well if you’re not still injured do it.

The run is the big question.  Not so much being fast but that you don't re-injury yourself.  I still think you would do very well.
