I had a business meeting on Wall St. Today. I have to admit; I'm feeling pretty damn validated that I made the big time.

I'm a 1%er without the wealth!

An arrest (and release) has been made.

No contact since then. I think the message was clearly delivered. And the message was so simple all along - leave me alone and there is no problem.

I went to one of those chain bike stores last night. My friend's seat post clamp sheared off and I live really close to the store he goes to (he gets big discounts after buying a MTB there) so I offered to drop it off.

Holy cow! The incompetence!!

First guy tried to tighten it. I showed him more than once that it was no longer attached to the frame, and tightening it would do nothing.

Second guy lectures me on wrenching on carbon without a torque wrench. It was the aluminum sleeve in the carbon frame that sheared - no damage to the carbon.

Last guy insisted I was doing it wrong, and the clamp should go around the carbon, and that the sheared off piece was really a shim... until I showed him how perfectly it matched the rest of the insert... then he understood what really happened, which I knew already.

The more I learn about bikes, the more picky I get about who touches mine (or anyone else's)

The upside?

Felt is replacing his frame for him, because the seat post clamp is FUBAR, which is awesome.

Holy crap...  the mechanics are telling you this???  That's kind of troubling - especially since they're supposed to know what the hell they're doing.

We're learning which stores to NEVER take our bikes back to, which (thankfully) is a fairly small list so far

I wanted to scream I AM AN ENGINEER! I know what sheared aluminum looks like and I know what part failed where here.

First one may not have been a mechanic. Second two were. Last guy wouldn't touch it and said to just call Felt. Which, turns out, was the right answer anyway.

I also called my friend and yelled at him and told him to never, ever take his bikes there, even if he gets good discounts

Wanna see what a sheared 200 ton 8 inch diameter hydraulic cylinder looks like. Broke and caused our one press to drop all 4 dies about 25,000 lbs of dies in the press.. Kinda went Bang. Maybe I should have called in your bike guys instead of myself last night. They could have diagnosed it for me.

Dealing with that since 8 pm last night. Surprised we had a spare parker cylinder in house.

Man when the sky falls it falls. Left work at 10:15 last night and I don't think I will be out of here much earlier today.

Holy crap, I hope that this is the end of it for you.  This dude is just plain nutty!

@Spanky - that's just crazy.  My condolences, man.... maybe take your bike and trainer to the office and burn a little steam?  Tell them that it''s that or you get all stabby on people.

Not exciting at all. Detective found him, questioned him, arrested him, and the arraignment was last night.

Very, very happy that the detective took an interest in what was happening, and made it clear that my intention is not to do harm, but to be left alone.

Email sent with ram snapped. Can't show you the other part with dies. Our process is very proprietary for our heat shields.

I might snap soon

And the weather has been crap. I have put 50 miles on my new bike. I refuse to put the trainer wheel back on. however I keep gaining weight and might now have a choice.

Awesome - now it will be on his record, right?

Drive by "HIYA"! Loving my new job so far. Except I learned yesterday that one of my direct reports is leaving the company in a month. Couple that with my boss going on maternity leave any day, I am only a bit a-skeered to be flying solo so soon. Fun?

You will be fine. You can rock this.

I often like to get in over my head with some jobs/positions it is how I grow as a person. Mentally not physically. Because I am still stuck down here at the short little 5' 6" height.

I'm actually GLAD that it wasn't exciting as that might have caused more issues... as in it may have stoked his anger even more that you've put him through this or something else that his not-quite-functioning-brain could have cooked up.

Fingers crossed that this is the end!

You'll be just fine - might be a bit of a higher learning curve than you were expecting, but you're going to do great!

And as Meh said... Missed you around here!

I would love to see the picture of the press and how it failed.  I am not curious about your dies, and your product, but have been around large presses for many years of my manufacturing life.

Well still in tampa. My flight was supposed to leave at 10 am and get to Boston at 4:20 now I'm on a 1 pm flight that won't leave till 3:30 and gets me to Boston at 10:20. Then I get to drive to Worcester, find my hotel and get some sleep before getting up around 5 am to ref tomorrow. That is if we can get off the ground before the next line of thunderstorms hit. Needless to say, I am not having fun! Spanky's till in worse shape I though, I think.
