GrapeJuice - 2011-01-17 11:24 AM OK I have a question for those out there that wear contacts, when racing do you swim with them in? I don't know what to do? a pool swim is fine with no contacts but OWS I wont be able to see in the distance to well to identify buoys and such?

I don't wear them, but Ryan does.  He always uses his for OWS or pool swims.  As a matter of fact, he hardly ever wears glasses!  He seems to do just fine with them in for his swims though!

Ok, many of you know what many of our spouses look like.  Erica, you mention your spouse more than Tony does so I think we need a look see at the two of you.....I am sure several people are thinkin the same thing, but only I have the guts to type it.  Who is this Ryan you speak of????

Haha, we're still pretty much newlyweds, so we aren't sick of each other yet!  We spend wayyy too much time together and train together, so that's probably why I talk about him too much.  Without further ado...

OK...I'd say lose the dog for the avatar.  He is cute, but you could seriously upgrade the avatar even if you did include RYAN in it.

Hahaha!  I will change my avatar once I have a GOOD race pic.  I've lost 20+ pounds this season, and 10+ since that picture was taken in October, so no race pics I'm proud of yet!  Until then, Nadie will have to do because she is my training buddy!

P.S. - I'm back to class today!  Fun stuff!

How do you get your picture #'s low  enough to put on bt?

tahrens - 2011-01-18 9:00 AM Am I the only person with this problem?  When I get busy I forget to eat.  Yes I know that sounds strange, but it's true.  And once I get to a certain point I don't feel hungry so I continue not to eat.   Now here I am 3 days later with a total of 5 meals in me and I feel like crap!   DAMN ME, I KNOW BETTER THAN THIS.

I can't relate at all.  I NEVER forget to eat....sometimes I wish I did   The good thing is you recognize the error of your ways.

i do that with lunch sometimes.  its not good.  the worse part is my attitude gets bad because of it.  the good part is it gets better pretty quick once i get something to eat.  and i've found it only has to be something small like a granola bar to fix it.

I'm like Suzy - I never forget to eat but sometimes I get too busy to make good choices or have fulfilling meals/snacks so I end up over eating.

If I can get in on a few of those meals (please don't let me eat the cheesecake) I am willing to help with Driving kids, walking dog, Homework and computer work. I am not packing for your husband however. I don't do packing. Heck I even do laundry but I might draw the line at 4 loads.

But if I get a line on the pork tenderloin, I am sure we can work something out. I will have to come home and do laundry for my wife to keep her happy too so you can't have me full time.

Seriously you sound as busy at me. Funny thing is (my foot is sore and I can't run or ride right now) I had NOTHING to do last night but sit still, I should have tried to enjoy it. Instead I annoyed my wife and drove her nuts because I couldn't handle sitting still like I was.

Complain AWAY - Law school is a HUGE time commitment!  I'm just sayin that being a SAHM isn't just bonbon and soap operas!  and if there's a recipe you want, holler.  Both of the dinners this weekend were mega-easy.

Although I complain about working hard, my wife (who was a lawyer but is now happily a SAHM) definitely works harder than I do.  But that doesn't stop me from joking with her that her life is all about bonbons and choosing paint colors.

Question for the group:

A friend of mine wants to do an unusual race with me, and we are looking for possibilities.  He is a runner by background (including a number of marathons) but has 4 kids and in the past few years has not exercised as much as he would have wanted to.  He and I have talked about doing a sprint or an Oly together, but circumstances have not permitted it.  And I am not sure he is really ready for either - without some training.  (The race with me on a specific day would be the carrot to get him to train more.)

So far, we have discussed:

Muddy Buddy
Great urban race
Warrior Dash

Any other suggestions? Any views on those?

I would love a race that he and I get to participate together as a team and are competing/racing side by side, rather than relay-style.  (Neither of us drink, so the "post-race-beer-party" is not a big part of the draw.)

I admire ALL SAHMs!  Seriously.  My aunt has been a SAHM for about 20 years, and now money is tighter, so she's working part-time AND doing all of her SAHM mom duties, since the youngest is now 16.  She is busy like whoa.  I would take being busy in law school over being busy with kids any day.  You are awesome!

And I am an absolute recipe fiend!  I collect recipes from everybody.  Part of it is that Ryan is a really picky eater, so I'm always determined to find something that he'll eat!  I definitely want the pork recipe, the biscuits (sound yummy), and the cake (which I know for SURE Ryan will eat!).  Also, what is chicken/apple sausage?  If you don't mind emailing those to me, I would REALLY appreciate it!  [email protected]

As I was reading your post my first thought was a Muddy Buddy.  I'm not familiar with the other races.  There are several people in the group who've raced Muddy Buddy and they had a great time.  If there is ever one in the area my hubby and I will race it together.

Love the new pic Linda!  Glad to hear you ran inside today.  It was so icy around here.

I just joined a gym across the street from my work for the next 2 months.  The weather has been so bad around here for the past few years that if I want good consistent workouts, I need a treadmill during the winter.

I actually got to run outside in shorts and a t-shirt today.  It was a bit cool at first, but I warmed up after the first half mile...

ETA - you read that right - I got out for a run!

First of all, how did John let you stay in the group all this time????

Not sure if you are only looking for running races but around here I have heard of some team cycling time trials.  2 person teams, the time for the team is when the second person crosses the finish line.  Might be something like that around you.

Although I have never done any of the races you mention above, I have heard from people that have done all of them and they had a great time.  Great videos from the warrior dash on their website.

Linda

Linda, try this

NO!  don't attach pics!!!  link them.  no size limit.

How do you do that?

what browser do you use?

Safari or Explorer depending on which laptop my wife isn't using at the time, though I prefer Safari.

I ran mostly walked the Warrior Dash in north Georgia last year and had a blast!  I have not done either of the other races you mention, but have friends who have also done the Muddy Buddy and really enjoyed it.  You might also want to take a look at the Tough Mudder if you really want a challenge.
