I plan to go for a swim at lunch then have a store bought salad.  I'm ashamed of what happened to me in 2013.  I believe I have ridden and swam more in the last two weeks than I have in all of last year.

I must also admit my 2013 was not good. I poorly trained for Grandma's Marathon in June, my reward was a summer of knee pain. Followed by a Fall of skipped workouts and excess food and drink. Just got back from a spin class so I am happy.

Oh yeah, I had left over vegetable tortellini soup.

TAN is not what it used to be that is for sure.

I wasn't here much myself. Life changes and my old work had everything blocked. Which made my job oh so easy.

I as well am ashamed of 2013 in 2012 I hit my all time low weight of 192lbs I was working out like mad to get there training for my HIM until I got hit by a car and needed knee surgery. I came back up to about 200lbs which I can accept.

However I have been hovering about 218-222lbs for several months now. I dipped to 214lbs for the Detroit Half Marathon in October. My daughter was less then two weeks old when I ran it and I was very under trained for this. I missed several long runs with my girlfriend having several complications before giving birth.

I paid for it at the 11 mile marker.

You DID???? Did you know that I did an Ironman as well????.....but did not have the weight loss that you did.

However...May - December was spastic training/loafing/laziness and I'm paying for it now.

Swam 700m at lunch yesterday (albeit in 12:30) and I felt dead....where as only 8 months previous my swims were 2900 - 3200m and with ease.

I'm sure this is the wrong group to complain to but I get aggravated with my gym pool sometimes.

I don't mind the blue hairs or the aqua joggers or those basically dog paddling.  BUT, I get aggravated with the people that think the entire wet area is a spa.

There is a pool with a fast lane and a slow lane.  Then a whole separate pool right next to it that is identical except for the lane dividers that is posted for walkers.

Today, I couldn't get a lane because to people in the lap pool would walk a lap, then chat for a couple minutes, then repeat.  It was just social hour for them.  There is a hot tub, benches, sauna, steam room and entire walking pool they can socialize in.  It MADE for that.  But not the lap pool.

TO ME, that's like sitting on a bench press bench with a good book and just hang out when there are benches in the lobby and have people waiting around to use it.

On occasion I try to say something and either they don't understand English or pretend not to, but after I leave they will struggle through a couple laps then get out.  Never fails...

On the bright side.  My local sports talk radio were talking about Chick-Fil-A and how amazing it is.  Just made me laugh and  laugh how people love that (like me!)...  Then they started to rave about Fizzoli's and In and Out and such.  Entertaining!  It's funny to hear people get worked  up over food.

SO HAPPY I have easy access to a good master's program.

I braved the YMCA when I was home. 6 lanes, separated in half by one lane rope. One side playing, one side "swimming". No lane ropes in to separate the swimming lanes from each other - and the whole pool was HOT and CROWDED. Tiny pool deck, too.

WHY would you build a brand new facility with such a crappy pool?!?!

It would be nice to go to a facility that was basically designated for workouts.

That being said, I just joined masters and will be taking a four session stroke clinic!  I feel I'm a pretty solid swimmer already, but never hurts to work on technique.  They may even video it for me - which will be first.

THEN I'm going to sign up for their 6 week outdoor swim training program that caters to triathletes and long distance swimmers.  Most of the training is IN a pool, but they have outdoor sessions on the weekend at lake mead.

Amazingly my gym's pool was half empty today, I had my lane all to myself!

The reason for the YMCA not building a perfect pool?  It all depends upon the people who were organizing the building of the YMCA and the budget they had.  It is amazing how many things get cut everywhere when building a new facility, because by the time you actually start building compared too when you had it quoted, everything is 25% higher in costs, so things get cut.  We live in a small community and have a 4 lane lap area with a center divider except at one end that attempts to keep the children and "play" separate, but very few people use our pool to lap swim.  They would rather just lounge in the pool.  There are designated times for lap swimming, but we don't put the ropes out for all of the lanes.  The only time they are put out is when they do a home swim meet for the kids or when our TRYathlon is using it.  I think the cost of our small pool was over $1,000,000.00 and that was 11 years ago.  And to meet all of the state and federal codes change each year also.  If it wasn't for great donations in our community we would probably still be without an indoor pool and our outdoor pool is open for 3 months tops and is terrible.

No pressure.  I just wanted you to know that we're all counting on you...

Best of luck, positive vibes, and good wishes to ya, Dave.

Good morning, TAN!

I just finished putting the lids on the first batch of homemade yogurt.  Three hours in the fridge and it'll be ready for the first taste test. Unfortunately, I'll be at work then, but the girlfriend will be home to do the honors.

Ugh. I know. I have been on the treadmill a lot this week. Sun - 6 miles. Mon - 3 miles. Wed - 4 miles.

I have an 11 mile run tonight. It is raining and gross outside. I'm not sure I can tolerate more miles on the treadmill this week.
