To get faster this year, I need to stay injury free!  That is why I am doing a lot of stretching and strength training.

velcromom - 2011-01-19 9:11 AM No races this weekend.  For 2011, I'm hoping to get faster using a combination of better daily nutrition, more consistent training, more stretching/rollering, less minor injuries, and trying to figure out what Kim's doing that I'm not.

I rolled, slightly, my already sore ankle yesterday.....just going down to get the mail.  Seriously.  If it ends up being a problem, I'm gonna have to come up with a better story!

I'm okay with my weight, I just really wish I had the option of moving it around to other places on my bodyCool

I hear ya sister!  I don't know about you but my kids really wrecked the middle part of my body.  I didn't notice so much before I slimmed down and firmed up a bit.  Now there are places that refuse to firm up!  ERRRR!  Yell

Hello folks! I'm home, but beyond caught up. This will take a few days. Just a quick note to say thanks for the support!! Very happy to report that, most importantly, Dad was discharged yesterday and as of last night was doing well. So glad I was there for Mom, as was she. Now about my race -- who knows what happened, other than I followed my plan and my body couldn't hang on. Haven't even had a chance to d/l Garmin data, and quite frankly there are about 7 miles that are a blur to me. It became a struggle to finish but I found two women whom I befriended to help get me there (they were running my pace early in the race -- seems we were close to each other the entire time).

Anyway, hubs and I tagged up and he's now off on a trip that was supposed to start Monday. One kid was home sick yesterday but is hopefully on the mend. Laundry is sky-high and I need to get my castle back into ship-shape!!!

Good to be home!

So, who has two thumbs and got in her first swim since August!?

***This girl!***

Super easy 700, broken up into sets.  Only had like 30 minutes to get to the gym, get ready, swim, shower, and get back to class, so I'm impressed I even got it done, but I'm really happy I did!

Has anybody else done the Learning to Swim plan that's in the articles here on BT?  I'm doing that, kind of, to help me get up to 1.2.  Hope it works!

NICE WORK way to go.

Still no racing for a bit in this frozen North. I am still focusing on how to get through this weight Plateau and hammer myself under 200 lbs. Down 50lbs from my start but I have been stuck around 215-217 for about 7 weeks now. Still  very pleased, but Darn it I want to see under 200.

I have plans to start stretching more, and core work to try and improve my runnning. With my foot still fairly sore (albeit it feels much better today, not really limping now from pain) I am going to take advantage of not running and not riding and get some Core work in for a change. Some weights, P90X and I think I am buying a Bosa Ball as soon as I can find one.

No race for me this week. My plans for going faster in '11 is to actually train LOL, the only Tri I did was with no training so I can only improve, Also I am looking to lose another 6lbs of body fat to get down to 190;bs, dont want to get any smaller than that. My end goal is to get back to 200lbs but with the same body fat % I will be hopefully at 190

Volunteering at the Instep Icebreaker Marathon on Saturday.  5:45am till they tell me I can go home.  Really neat venue, usually the US speed skating team is doing their morning workout right next to the runners.  One of the few indoor BQ events around
http://indoormarathon.blogspot.com/
Orginally I had planned on running the 1/2, but I got the family schedule messed up with the Bride and by the time I figured out I was available this weekend, the races were full!  Yell  Thinking maybe I will do a volunteer RR anyway.... Laughing

AND, my plan for going FAST in 2011 is........

For me, NOT GETTING INJURED! Since I am working through that right now, my goal is 334 consecutive days of no days off due to injury.  Started yoga, just received more excersises to strengthen my sissy hamstrings today in PT and still working the details of the rest.

Running around Disneyland for the next 5 days. and BOOOO Kim & I had our months crossed up, so no meeting up for us this trip.

Getting faster - stop eating garbage. Honestly.  Lose more lbs. stop eating garbage.  I'm sensing a pattern.

No line toeing for me. To make myself faster/better I plan on getting some good one on one instruction on running technique and then listening to the advice and doing it. I am also going to run more often than last year. I was very sporadic about getting the run training in.

Sounds like you need some strengthening of your tibialis anterior and the Peroneus longus and brevis. These are the muscles controlling inversion and eversion (sideways flexion) of your foot and ankle. Of course you have to stop hurting your foot before you can strengthen it

Considering that I periodically have a similar problem, and I assume others do as well, do you have any suggestion on what exercises to do to strengthen those muscles?  thanks.
