Scott and I would love to join you for your Thursday swim. We have had very limited swim practice in our wetsuits (crazy Florida athletes) and are most certainly not accustomed to the COLD water that y'all have there. So any time that we can put in the water is time well spent. OK, so Blockade Runner at 7:15AM on Thursday then, right? Sounds good! I'm going to message you my cell number. I'll stay glued to the forums here as well, but give me a call if anything changes. Looking forward to 'finally' meeting you! |

I am leaving my car at the town center and walking to Blockade runner with flip flops. I will leave my cloths at Bloackade and when we done with the swim I will drive up and get my cloths from there ,So yo have a choice of either doing the same with me and I give you a ride back or leave your shoes at the docks before heading down the blockade runner and run back to the blockade runner to your car. Let me know |

Extreme Veteran 504 SW Florida Gulf Coast | Subject: RE: Beach to Battleship HIM : Official Thread Good morning, y'all! Looks like the weather is shaping up nicely. I'm hoping that someone can help me out with the logistics for the practice swims. I'm coming in from out of town very late on Wednesday evening, so I won't have a chance to scope out the area before the practice swim that a few of us are doing on Thursday morning. Livestrong (or anyone else who is local)- you mentioned parking your car at the Town Center and then walking to the Blockade Runner for the swim start. Do you have an address for the Town Center? I imagine it is close to the Seapath Marina swim out, but I can't seem to find it on Google Maps. Also, how long would it typically take to make this walk- from Town Center to Blockade Runner? I don't want to miss the 7:15AM gathering time. The Blockade Runner... is this a hotel? Are there docks on the channel side that we are meeting at? Finally, I'll be coming from the Hilton Riverside. Any idea of how long it would take to drive from my hotel to the Town Center? Sorry for all of the questions-- I just don't want to miss this swim. |

Expert 1394 Wilmington, NC | Subject: RE: Beach to Battleship HIM : Official Thread Can somebody confirm or deny this for me. Transition closes at 6:30am for the HIM? The race book says body marking is until 6:30am, but I do not recall seeing something that actually says transitions closes. I do not want to be standing around out there for 2hrs waiting to start. Last year I just went back to my hotel until race start, but this year I am staying downtown so I can't really do that. Anybody who might have done the HIM last year know when we they close T1 on race morning? |

Any idea of how long it would take to drive from my hotel to the Town Center? Sorry for all of the questions-- I just don't want to miss this swim. Use this as an address for T1/Town Center. It's the Wrightsville Beach Police Department. 321 Causeway Drive Wrightsville Bch, NC 28480-1901 (910) 256-7945 As you turn into that area you'll see the empty fields. The South Eastern one (closest to the ocean) is the transition area. Across the street from that, is the Seapath Yacht Club, where we'll come out of the water for the practice and for the race. If you follow Route 76 towards the ocean and take a right on Waynick Blvd, about 3 or 4 blocks on your left is the Blockade Runner hotel. Across the street from that (towards the channel) is a beach with some docks. Last year we parked on the side of the road nearest the channel to swim. Some people left their cars at the Town Center and some picked the people up and brought them down to the Blockade Runner. |

Last year things were backed up a bit for some reason and I seem to remember they closed T1 at 7:00 or something like that. They just wanted it closed before the first person from the full distance race came in. |

To get to Blockade Runner, continue down the causeway and turn right after crossing the bridge. You'll see the sign -- there aren't many high rise type buildings there. Blockade Runner is a condo/hotel. There is a small beach on the channel side of the Blockade Runner with sea kayaks and such. |

Hey Shellabree As soo as you cross the bridge to WB stay in the left hand lane and go straight do not turn anytwhere and you will see about 1/4 after the bridge there are two huge soccer Fields on your left hand side and buidling saying town Hall. Turn the in the second enterance and follow down the little road to the tennis courts the is a big parking lot. I have a silver VW Rabbit with a 70. 3Sticker and a bike rack with green bungier cords around it. Its only a 1.5 mile walk. I am going to be there at 6:35am just to be sure to make it. So call me we can walk together. You can call anytime . Where are you staying I can meet you there and you can follow me if that makes it easier. |
