Awesome job in the 5K, Kevin! What a great accomplishment on a challenging course.

Wow, Thomas...you guys are socked in up there...definitely a trainer day.

I'm just back from a 20-mile morning bike session and a 1500 swim. The ride took a little longer than planned because our leader missed a turn. Consequently, we ended up riding about 1/2 mile on Hwy. 59 between Hillje and El Campo to get back into town...luckily it wasn't too scary, but I don't ever want to do that again!

Great job in the 5K Kevin!

Hope everyone is having a good weekend.  Just finished a morning bike ride and then a short swim afterwards.  Really enjoyed the longer ride today...it has been since Aug. that Tif and I have been on a ride that was 20 miles or longer.

Now it is time for a bit of a nap...then I will do my weekend chores.

kjivie - 2010-02-06 1:15 PM Hey all...had my last 5K race this morning.  Short story is that I finished in 19:40 - 1st in 30-39 AG, 4th overall.  This is a brutally hilly 5K route, so I am stoked to have broken 20min today.  Lots of boring details in my TL.  Hope everyone has a great weekend.

golfpro - 2010-02-05 2:19 PM Hello everyone,

Hope everyone is doing well and having a great weekend. It has been a while since I posted here- usually hit the inspires- it is one or the other if not it is a lot of time...

As far as goals for January, I would like to maintain and increase my run mileage which means I have to get out there and do it and not be a weenie about it.
I was able to get a short easy run with my wife and eldest son before the snow started to come down.

So far we have had well over two feet of snow and it looks like there is another 4 inches before is all said and done. Maybe I'll get a chance for a bike ride tonight if the roads are clear- what do you think?

Feb snow

I had my first bikram yoga class yesterday and did it ever kick my butt. It was my first time doing yoga overall and I can see why people do it for a great workout. My hr rate was high at times, I even felt a little dizzy during some of the poses. I didn't use my water efficiently, I drank it all during the first 45 min and I was completely soaked. Overall it was a great and tough experience. Kelly how do you incorporate this in your training? right now I can't imagine doing this and a s/b/r on the same day. I would be completely dehydrated..

Today is day one of my HIM training.  Just did a whole lot of moving around the workouts to make it work for me and I think I have Feb scheduled the way I want now.  I think they are simply insane on the swim workouts.  I'll go by time there and not distance.  Can't imagine what they have you swimming for an actual IM.  There is even some strength workouts in the plan to keep me honest.  Some pretty basic routines and then a focus on core which is key.

Looking at all the running all I can say is my dog is going to be one tired dog coming up

Yay Kim!

Kim talking about her training reminds me that I have a question about my training plan.  I am not running right now.  This week I am going to look into ART therapy for my IT band but fully expect to take off the month of February or at least most of it.  Any ideas on what my plan should look like?  I know I am biking more than my plan calls for and feel that has helped with my fitness and I need to get in the pool more.  Any other ideas?

Not sure what your plan as for swim workouts but I keep most people 2200-2800/workout twice a week...

They have me over 3000 some days of the week.  What's funny is they expect that in an hour.  Ha, they don't know how much I suck obviously  I plan to keep it at a hour 3x's a week.  I figure soon that will get me in the 2000+ range.  I almost hit it a few times.  Tough when your so pokey but I see some speed improvement so I think it is just a matter of time.

Will be very interested in what Kelly has to say.  I haven't been to Bikram in a while, but did incorporate it into last year's training.  First of all, CONGRATS on staying in the room and not tossing the cookies.  That is all you should hope for during your first 3 sessions.  And it is totally ok to sit down during a pose if you're struggling.  Just sit on the mat and let your HR come back down. Hard for us Type A's but you'll be rocking the whole series of poses before long. Focus on hydration the day before the class.  The day of is too late.  Your body will eventually adjust and you'll need less water during the class.  I always tried to do Bikram on my swim days.  Swim in the morning and Bikram after work.  It usually wound up being 2 days a week, although I would have liked 3.  And I never got past feeling nauseous during camel pose.

Good luck.

So what's the difference between bikram yoga and regular yoga?  The only yoga I have ever done is about 4 seconds on the wife's Wii Fit.

Bikram is also known as "hot" yoga.  It is a series of 26 postures and 2 breathing exercises in a hot studio, usually 105* - 110* depending on the location.  It takes 90 minutes to complete and is a super tough workout from a cardio, strength and flexibility perspective.  I would not recommend it after a Super Bowl party with beer consumption.
