Good morning TAN!!!  A balmy -4 today in southwest Iowa and the winds are not even starting yet.   The forecast is for 40+ mph wind starting today and all day tomorrow.  That should be awesome.

Its nasty cold here minus 7 right now but the winds are going to get ugly later today. This has been an extremely cold winter for Iowa this entire winter. It really makes me not want to get out of my squad car.

It was 54 here this am   Might get into the 40s at night.  I went to med school in Iowa and the day I flew home for Christmas  it was -40 on the BANK thermometer...no wind chill just -40......Actually once it gets to -20 it all feels the same FRIGGING COLD

I keep opening my garage staring at my Harley wondering if I will get to ride it in the near future at all.

My hot tub is dead because of the -29 F we had here not long ago. took out my circuit board and caused my lines to freeze and split.. didn't realize they were split. I paid $475 for new board only to have it blow because lines split and pump current draw from damage.

And then I found out I got hacked on my credit card from the spa company for ordering online through them. $478 charges on my account for a website handling fee.

Same company that handles their orders seems to handle some adult sights too.

Messaged them and they don't care about my card not working or the fact that my card info was stolen because of them.

Socks I went to school in Iowa City too. 5 years of the best 4 year program possibly ever. Maybe we both know people that Ken has had in the back of his squad car- or good bet I do anyhow.,..

don't waste your time with them, call your CC company.  they HAVE to recover your money for fraudulent charges.

That happens to me when I get sick.  But normally I'm fine.  I wonder why?  BUT, I get dry skin like a mo fo and it get's worse if I spend a lot of time in the pool.  BUT, I'm not a regular lotion guy (can't stand it, really) so I forget to put it on.  Then I regret it and get itchy all day.

PS:  I get chapstick or the like in every race SWAG bag that I have dozens of unopened tubes in a drawer.

Pool chemicals aside... and putting on my granola/hippie hat...

Most shampoos and soaps are meant to strip your skin of everything, including the natural oils that keep it moisturized. Which is why the more you shampoo, the more you NEED to shampoo/condition. And the more you use soaps, the more you have to moisturize. I've recently moved to the "no shampoo" thing to help my scalp issues (LOVING IT) and am on my way to no soap. I've moved to a castille soap and hope to go even more natural in the future.

Hippie hat off. Carry on.

Tidbit about soap:

Most soaps are processed and have the glycerin skimmed off.  No glycerin = dry skin.  Then that glycerin is used to make other moisturizing products (lotion, etc).  Nice scam they have going, right?

You can buy "glycerin soap" but you have to look for it.

i'm all ears for a hippie dippie solution to chapped lips.  this ish is painful.

another factoid for all you dorks - bubbles/foam/lather do NOT mean clean.  natural soaps don't foam.  stuff is added to soap/shampoo/detergents to make them foam because for some reason we associate foam with more cleaning power.  it is a complete fallacy.

MEH I have been putting coconut oil on my lips but can't say it's yielded the same results as chap stick.
For something homemade you probably need beeswax.

I have at least turned to brining my own products to the gym.  I have a bunch of Nivea for men skin stuff (shower gel/shampoo) instead of that borderline commercial cleaning agents that they gym provides.  That stuff almost gives chemical burns.

Just started some hot pepper seeds this morning.  I'm going to attempt to grow the new hottest pepper in the world, the Carolina Reaper.

Looking forward to some serious pepper burn this summer.... there have been individual tests of these peppers where they have measured equivalent to military grade pepper spray.  Yum!

ok all kidding aside

When it is this dry I have no choice but to use a steroid cream on my calves and my face. I get a winter eczema

I got it pretty bad as a kid. It's better now, thankfully, though not completely.

Oil of Olay Complete Moisturizer seems to be my best solution for dry patches on my face. Not generic - the real thing.

I have Oil of Olay moisturizer (not sure if it's "complete" or what - just the original stuff) but it does nothing to my dry face. I apply coconut oil directly to my face every morning and it works wonders!
