Most certainly NOT an expert here, but I have done many a workout with the disciplines out of order, with no issues. (apart from inherent slowness, but that's just me...)

As I spend the last night of being able to eat whatever (I start my nutrition challenge tomorrow)--I am kinda bored....So I thought I would post some happy little photos here!

 Mission Golden Eyed Tree Frog

Honduran Club Tailed Iguana (with a bark piece 'hat')

and a happy little Dwarf Caiman!

Okay....got that out of my system.

I have spent my day eating soon-to-be-contraband-food....I had Taco Bell for lunch (with Mountain Dew), Chicken Teriyaki over pasta for dinner, and I plan on having a big bowl of ice cream in just a bit....I have to finish them before tomorrow after all, or else I will be tempted! As of tomorrow it will be lean protein, veggies (lots and lots of 'em), starch in the form of quinoa or brown rice(or spaghetti squash--not a fan), and a bit of fruit.... My poor husband...he gets to live through my sugar withdrawals with me. Oh well--I am looking forward to it--even the issues I forsee. this will be GOOD for me!

A training question. I am doing my workouts back to back. Would it be smart to alternate which one I do first? Current schedule looks like this:

Monday: 3.5 mile run/20 minutes rowing/weights (shoulders/core)
Tuesday: 10k rowing/45-60 minutes bike
Wednesday: 7 mile run/45-60 min bike
Thursday: 5 k row/75-90 bike/weights (shoulders/core)
Friday: 3.5 mile run/20-30 min rowing/weights (shoulders/core)
Saturday: 7 mile run/30-60 minute bike

I am trying to do the runs early enough to beat the heat, around 4-4:30 am. Weights and bike are in an A/C gym so not as prone to heat issues. I know ideally in SBR order would help, but not always possible due to work. Any significant issues doing it out of "order"?

The arrangement of the workouts is set up to get the most out of your training, not to do a triathlon every day. So with that in mind, you'll want to know which workouts are your harder or more key ones. These will involve more intensity and/or be bigger in volume. For me, the tricky ones would be Wednesday & Saturday. They'll involve balancing out doing a (probably) hard bike workout after doing some of your longer running against compromising the running by doing them after the bike workout and in worse heat conditions. *I* would likely be better off how you have it as heat is devastating for me even when rested. Others who are more heat tolerant might be better swapping them.

Bali Ocean Swim. 10K in 3:02. So close to sub-3! (Although that's just an arbitrary number) Choppy as hell out there, too, and trying to break past the surf line of 5-6 footers was no picnic, either. Fun coming in, though!

I think that what is important is that the volume is appropriate for your upcoming events.  Once you are back in TN, be sure to get some brick workouts included in your plan.

Wait, 3:02 is sub 4!  That is GOOD!  Didn't you say, "I gotta try to eke out a sub-4:00 in order to qualify to swim Western Australia's Rottnest Channel Swim (~20K) early next year."  With 58 minutes to spare, you more than eked it out!

Congratulations!

Hiya, Kate.  Your happy little photos made me grin.  How big is that Dwarf Caiman?  Good luck with the nutrition challenge.  I always cringe when I'm told that something "will be good for me."  That usually means it's going to really suck and I may or may not actually enjoy the benefits.  Then again, I'm a bit of a hedonist who struggles with "Never put off until tomorrow what I can enjoy today."

Jonathan, both Ben and Janyne make good points. Make sure your key workouts are not compromised and that the overall volume is sufficient to your goals. I like that you have a full day off for recovery as well. Dry not to burst into flames when you are out there running.

I hope the quietness in the pod means that everyone has had a great weekend!

Mine has sucked...
On Friday I had to terminate to employment of someone I consider to be a friend, it sucked!

On Saturday Bruce had to have emergency surgery because he has been eating rocks again and one over 1" round got stuck in his bowel. He has been at the vet under observation since to make sure he doesn't get an infection. I am dreading seeing the size of the bill when we pick him up.

Yesterday (Sunday) my mums friend got removed from a plane in KL while on her way back to Australia because they didn't think she had a valid visa to enter the country, she is a permanent resident so doesn't need one, but that was a drama to help sort out.
Then my footy team lost again.
And to top off the day at about 9:30pm Phil closed our office door and somehow it locked from the inside all my stuff for work today was in the office. We have lived here 10 years and didn't know there was even a lock on the door. Luckily a window was open so at about 10 last night we were outside in the rain removing the security screen so I could climb in the window and open the door - you really have to laugh at that one.

Enjoy the last bit of your Sunday.

Jonathan, great job on the 10+km!

Yanti, wow, 3:02 for 10km swim.

Stacey, sorry to hear about your sucky weekend!  Hope Bruce is ok.

So I was to do my last long bike yesterday, but got a flat at km 60ish.  I am running tubulars and we didn't bring any spares, so that was the end of my ride.  My training partner went on, and finished the course in under 7 hours, which was really good for his mental prep I think.  They offered to go back up with me today, which we did, and I picked up where I left off, which meant 35km mostly down to Pemberton, 50km flat in Pemberton, the 35km climb back to Whistler.  It POURED rain, but there was very little wind.  I finished it is 4:33, and yesterday I did the first part of the course (Whistler down to Callaghan, up Callaghan, and reverse route back to Whistler) in 2:29.  Sooooooo....I am pretty happy with that.  If conditions are good on race day (read no wind), I should get a sub 7 bike time, which would thrill me on this course.  I would have been happy to keep a 24km/hr (just under 15mph) pace for the 120km today, and I managed 25.4km/hr (15.8mph).  I am also thrilled to be done with the long stuff for this race...

Stacey, what a rotten weekend!!  At least you were able to find a laugh at the end of it.  Hoping the rest of your week follows the upward trend and that Bruce feels better soon.

Kirsten, good to get the flats out of the way now.  I'm so excited for you as your race gets closer!!

And Ms. Yanti, when exactly did you say you'd have that race report done?  I don't think I heard....

Oddly enough he takes really great pictures.

Find a mentor. Make a list of at least three people that you could approach for help, list your specific needs and then be courageous enough to begin asking.
