Another swim this morning with an attempt at some quick 50s.  Was ok for speed but it tired me out some quick!

Marc (or anyone who knows), can you suggest a good pool to swim in in Montreal?  I will be there next week for work and would like to get a swim or two in.  I'm staying downtown near the Bell Center and have no car so I can't go that far.  I looked at the McGill pool schedule but it's a bit confusing...

If you are a member of the YMCA that's probably the best. Right down town. Stanley & Ste-Catherine

further away but easy by metro is the Olympic pool. I think at night is possible

I swim in the endless pool at Cycle Technique which is easy to get to.

tasr - 2012-09-14 5:17 AM Does anybody know how many Vegas slots are available at Mont-Tremblant 70.3 2013?

I can’t seems to find it on the web site.   Thanks.

It was 30 and I doubt they will up it since it sold out. Last year they gave 100 to Syracuse same weekend because they had no registration.

If you are doing 3:10ish Savageman you are going to CRUSH Tremblant

Sent my Powertap back to Cycleops yesterday.  Hopefully I'll have a new PRO back in a week or so.  I actually took apart my own wheel (not very complicated) but I'd never done that before.  I certainly won't be rebuilding it on my own.

Since Sunday I've done a grand total of nothing.  Haven't even cleaned up my poor bike which is sitting in the basement covered in chain grease.  The legs, specifically the quads, were really done in and only this morning are they starting to feel normal again.  I brought the swim gear and hope to get out at lunch, and maybe a small 20min run or something this evening.

I'm trying to figure out where I want to focus my energies this off season, and as much as I want to improve across the board I know I need to be a little more startegic in my thinking.  Has anyone tried, and been successful, at knocking :10/100 off their swim pace?  This is my 5th year swimming so my current times are pretty established, but this is one goal I'd like to consider chasing.  I just don't know what I'd need to actually do in order to make it happen.

Marc, out of curiousity, are you able to run the Rev 3 Quassy course through your CT the way you did for some of the other courses?  I'm wondering what it would spit out since our rides times were similiar at Muskoka.

Fred D - 2012-09-13 6:06 PM Jason I would love to do Hono, but travel costs and time would be a challenge. The part of me that wants to qualify for LV 70.3 wants to do eagleman, but I am favoring doing a boys trip with a bunch of BTers to do Quassy June 1st. Let's see, JohnnyK, Bobby, James, Neil, and maybe Marc?

I went out with a tri buddy last night. Slept .00001 hours.

He is really upset about Tremblant selling out. We may do Quassy. I want to experiment a little with pacing next year. I would love to try an aggressive bike and see what happens

Depending on where you are starting from :10/100 is certainly an achievable goal.  It may take a lot of hard effort and frequency but it can be done.  Step one is to correct whatever technique issues you may have or at least begin to identify them.  Next is to work hard every single time  you are in the pool.  Not just thrashing away and getting  yourself tired but working on swimming hard/fast while also focusing on the stroke corrections.  IMO one on one coaching with a good instructor is the best way to identify the stroke corrections you need to make.  You may think you know what you are doing wrong and how to correct it and you may be right but you may be doing something completely different.

Looking at your logs,  you were swimming 4-5 times per week since april and I think that's important for improvements as long as you are actually working on something.  I see so many people at the pool who swim that often but never improve because they just go and put in some yardage but 1.) it's the same old stroke they've always done and 2.) I never see them breathing heavily.

I would need a mapmyride or garmin gpx file. I will try and find one

I ran Savageman through it. Holy moly. a 2:53 Muskoka was equivalent to a 3:30 Savageman. OUCH !!!!

I ran into a friend last night that did Tremblant, Muskoka and is doing Savageman. Should be interesting

TSimone - 2012-09-14 8:51 AM I've done nothing since Rev3 and today I finally feel pretty decent, other than my right achilles and the pinched nerve in my neck/upper back. Will still probably wait until next week to get back at it.

Mentally, I've gotten over the run (kind of) and have turned the corner somewhat in that I'm thinking more about being thrilled that I actually finished a 140.6 tri instead of lamenting what went wrong.

Race report should be done tonight or tomorrow.

Hope you all have a great weekend. And welcome to the new folks!

That's the right attitude to take.  You aren't alone in your thought process.  I remember being more annoyed and mad after that initial high.  Everyone was congratulating me on finishing and I wasn't really happy with my performance but after awhile you take away the positives and take some lessons learned.  I was second guessing everything, mad at being 10lbs over weight, riding with too high of a VI, nutrition messed up etc...you name it!

Thanks for the welcome!

ps.  To be honest, I'm still annoyed every time I think about it...like right now.  Redemption.

Agreed on 1 and 2. I'm stubborn and not really willing to change my stroke... but I'm participating in a tri camp next weekend that involves underwater video analysis. I'm trying to be open minded

On 2 - definately mix it up and work HARD. If you want some ideas on sets - let me know. Do you swim solo or with a masters group?

Thanks guys.  I have to swim on my own as my schedule doesn't fit the the local masters group.  I'd love to get some one on one coaching, but the dollars aren't really there at the moment.

Clearly the keys - time + effort + focus.

TankBoy - 2012-09-13 10:51 AM Elaine and Marshall - it sounds like you guys may be both suffering from some typical late-season endurance training break-downs. Not sure what kind of access you have in your area, but this is a link to the group I work with in Atlanta. They are like wizards for the kind of difficulties you both describe. If you can find a group in your area that offers a similar holistic mechanical/structural/soft tissues "systems" approach to diagnosis, treatment, and maintenance you would be amazed at how quickly they can get you back on your feet.

Thanks. My plantar fascia is angry. I think this was the kick I need to go see the accupuncture or chiropractor guy who spoke to us at our TriGirls meeting this past week.

I'm pretty sure I'm relaying Rev3 Florida - anyone want to come bike or run the half with me?

x2! All that woulda, coulda, shoulda - doesn't matter. During an Ironman, so many things can happen - you met the challenge and still crossed the finish line! Let's not get started on how monumental it is just to do the training.  I know, you set expectations for yourself and it's hard not to meet them - but at the end of the day what does it matter if you didn't have a great run?

Enjoy the post-race glow!!! You did it!

First 10 on :50 although I was interrupted by the guy in the lane beside me around #7 for an extra 30 seconds or so.  Last 2 on :60.
