I have melons consider them pressed!jobaxas - 2013-01-23 7:11 PM Dearest Manatees - old and new friends Well after much soul searching I made the decision yesterday to withdraw from Melbourne Ironman. One thing stands between me and the finish - a bike! ha! I think I'm going to just sit and think, re-evaluate my goals and see where that sets me. I've had an emotional roller coaster ride the last week or so (don't forget to take the Maca powder to New Zealand next time!). Today i'm starting to feel slightly less raw and more balanced - exercise helps funnily. I shall go to swim squad tonight. The relief I feel from making the decision is immense. Yes a little disappointed but not as much as I am relieved. I think i shall tackle some HIM again, do some run races which i love before I make the decision on IM. Maybe Challenge Wanaka January 2014 - but this time I hire a coach and do it properly. I want to thank you all for your support on the journey so far. It's not over by a long shot in fact it's just begun. sorry I've been less than active on here, that won't change for a while - I got some things to sort out personally. Nearly there. I will read everything though every day i promise! And Yanti - I'll see you in March! Love you all. Respect and hugs Manatees. I'm glad you feel relief from your decision and I wish you nothing but the best in sorting out your other personal matters. Never met - but feel like you are a "friend". We'll be here when you get back. Can't melon press you since I don't have melons, but if I did - I'd be sending a big Melon Press your way. It's the thought that counts right? |

Not everyone is as loquacious as we are. That's OK. I too have my times when I retire into myself. It's the INTP that I am, with the I and P off the scale. And, at times, it is a bit overwhelming to keep up. INTJ here. The T flops with F sometimes. Always an I and J. INFJ for me, which really explains so much. |

Anyone have experience on how long I should hold off on workouts to avoid passing out in a ditch? I'm going to eat a peanut butter cookie to celebrate U.S. National Peanut Butter day while I chew on that. Okay, done. No personal experience--nobody ever wants mine--but as for the myriad people here on BT and friends who drain and train ... it depends. :D I know, real exact, right? It affects people differently. Make sure you are really well hydrated going in (that's a couple pints liquid you're losing, y'know) and if it were me I'd try a workout tonight but not a long or intense one, and probably not an outdoors dark bike ride. That's generally contraindicated in many circumstances |

I've donated on Friday and done a long run the next day. It was slow, and I was tired, but I made it. Drink lots of fluids before and after, and I wouldn't recommend an intense workout. |

I gave two weeks ago. It affected me more than I thought it would. I was wiped out the next day and the fatigue and malaise was about the same as running 13 miles or so. Take this with a grain of salt as I am 54 years old and my refractory period isn't on the level of Superman anymore. Read on some site that red blood cell count takes two weeks to recover. All told I believe I took three days off before I exercised again. I didn't plan it that way. |

Seattle | Subject: RE: Mad Manatees Mentor Group - VERY CLOSED!!! Sorry! This is a really big training week (miles) so I was a little curious about how last night's track workout was going to go, especially within the full week. (that of course is still TBD) Also, just to keep things interesting I forgot my sports bra AND socks AND all of my stuff was wet from my jog earlier in the day. SO ... there you have it, the start of my track workout in soggy clothes, a regular bra and dress socks (again.) Anyway, the workout was 4 x 1600 with 2.5 minutes rest in between. I decided to buck up and go with the faster group. We were supposed to go @ 6:27 pace per mile. We hit 6:22 on the first mile and it felt sooo smooth and easy. Of course we were doing 4 so I didn't want to get ahead of myself. Rep number 2 we got in 6:18. My coach gave us the go ahead to conservatively keep it up so the next two were 6:16 and 6:12! For the first time I dropped everyone in that last mile and felt great! This is coming into week 7 of marathon training so it seems to be falling in that 4-6 weeks where you start to see training adaptions taking place. Anyway, it's really exciting to see changes happening! Edited by Asalzwed 2013-01-24 12:22 PM |

Anyway - I wanna say a big teary thank you to all the manatees, your kind words have made a huge difference to my being at peace with my decision. Welcome to the new year. I have some plans tell me your thoughts. Firstly - get on the bike - get to the park go round, practice stopping and starting, practice eating and drinking. Then once confident let's go to the cycling club that I joined! I had to join one to get a cycling coach - insurance reasons. So let's use it. Later in the year (spring) I fancy a cycling camp. and a triathlon camp. I am feeling super pumped about the future. Thanks manatees dragging me out of the dark! I'm sure triathlon Victoria or whoever the race organizers are over there would love to have another volunteer to help out on a regular basis, especially one that has some racing experience. |

I have volunteered and enjoyed it except you're tied to one spot. I enjoyed my weekend HIM relay race where I got to swim and run and maybe that's the way forward if the bike thing doesn't pan out. I go back to marathon racing and maybe to ultra. And keep the swim race thing going. Of course my favourite pasttime and one I'm very good at is celebrity and pro athlete stalking. I would win that race. |
