As for my race, in addition to coming back from surgery it's also supposed to be hot as shyte.

We just got this e-mail:

"we will be providing as much help as we can for the 5k, 10K and steeplechase events.  We will have the following:
2 water tables
sponges soaked in ice cold water
a mister
some ice at the water tables

In addition, I think it would be wise ice your head during the longer races.  The best way to do this is to have a baseball cap or visor to hold an ice-filled sandwich bag with crushed ice in it.  We will have sandwich bags and ice available but are asking you to bring your own ballcap.  We puncture several holes in the sandwich bag if you want to squeeze cold water on your head during the race.
Secondly, be cautious in your warm up time.  When the temperatures hit the upper 80s and low 90s, the temperature in the air and on the track can easily exceed 100 degrees.  At one national championship at Hayward field, I recorded a track temperature of 103, when the high for the day was "only" 85. "

The good news is they are making all the stops to help us out. But it's going to be a tough evening!

Also, I had visions of some sort of chippendale type of dude did when I read "mister"

Well that oughta make you run fast....

I get grumpy cause I get stressed...have I done enough...what if....  especially as it is a new distance.

Goals for Oly: Mostly not limit myself.  Not lollygag on the swim--I can go faster than 'easy pace' and not die.  I proved that to myself last week in the pool.  Bike--no real goal here, feeling okay.  Run: not limit myself.  Training with my friend has proven that I can run faster, longer than I give myself credit for.  I am not going to go super crazy or anything, but just have that mindset that "I can".

Just curious...would you consider doing a race where you go super crazy? Probably no time in this build, but in the future?

Yes, absolutely.  If we were a bit further out, I would do so here, but I think it is too close now.  I have learned a lot this year about what I am capable of.  My Boise race was good for me from the bike/run aspect and recognizing what I am capable of.  Training on the course in Whistler as well.

That's great, Stacey! Probably the third is the most important

Pretty sure no "speedy" people are laughing. Everyone starts somewhere with the goal being improvement, no matter what level.

I'll feel better once I secure someone reliable to take him to an appointment while I'm away.  I tried to get them to change it to a time when I'm around but they didn't have any within the timeframe they need and when I'm home.  I'll also feel better if slacker brother would get on board so my sister won't be the only one doing his meals and caring for him while I'm away.  Thanks, everyone, for your kind comments.  I gladly care for my dad but sometimes it gets tough to balance all his needs with keeping my life in order, too.  It keeps things interesting for sure!

I'll be making my annual summer jaunt to lovely Lake Placid, NY to watch LT and some other friends race the Ironman (I'm volunteering one day and sherpa-ing race day) and to get some quality swimming/biking/running, relaxing and ice cream eating accomplished in one of the most beautiful areas in the country.

You're right, I also think this falls under Janyne's Racing/No DL rule.

Yeah hahah you could qual with a 5000 and a 3000 if you so desired. Interestingly enough, we are gunning for a win with distance and some field events (meaning scoring points) which from what I read, would be historical. Usually it's the sprint and mid distance that creates a T&F win. It's not just about the "podium" in T&F as it's scored 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 so, that means that getting 8th place is not just important to get A point, but it means your competitor doesn't get a point, ya know?

But yeah, no one likes to run the 10000 but we've got a lot of brave (and fast) women who are willing to. Most of the fasts are also racing the 5000 the next morning so the 10 will be run slower than usual.

And perhaps now you take me seriously about dfl?

Can't seem to find your RR.  Hopefully you're not still sleeping??  Or maybe Yanti's being a bad influence on you!

Still working on it. I had my APART (Annual Performance for my flight duties test) this week. Was studying aircraft systems and all of the other things we have to know. It delayed me some.
