Sam, looking through your song list it is obvious to me that I cannot help you...at all. I own none of those songs! Not a one! Wow! I mean I know what some of them are, but I must be getting old.

Not to fear Doug, I am asking for help b/c I mostly listen to Classical, NPR or a station that boasts the best of yesterday and today!  So I feel woefulyl behind on my running tunes.  I forgot how great an inspiration music can be until I was about busting out of the skin at 5:30AM at the start of the Disney marathon w/ fireworks going off and Taio Cruz's Dynamite blasting over the speakers!  It was awesome.

I know this is a response in your usual boyish charm is you acting like an A$$ but I don't get it.  Do you really think that the information posted tonight is worthless?  Yes, the only real fact is running that pace on the day of the race or not.  Plain and simple.  But since I am not a gifted runner who can easily achieve this goal, I have to try and formulate then practice my plan.  And I'm using the best tools that I have access to and that includes this group, my coach, my experience and the internet.

BTW - what do you do?

perhaps you should learn to decipher boyish charm from calling out bs... anyone can regurgitate sh+t posted online, which seems to be the case here for a few that are handing out advice on things they probably shouldn't.

what do i do?   kick a$$.  of course.

Still waiting for an answer to her question.  And IMO your rhetoric on other's opinion, which is what has been offered, being "BS" is uncalled for.... Professor.  Now, Go play with your academic friends.

Welcome to Slowtwitch!  Please don't call BS, etc on others.  Everyone has a different method for how they train, test, race, etc.... While "pot-stirring" is great entertainment for some it is completely useless for the people that care about wanting to learn this stuff.... Just agree to disagree, and move on.  What works for one might not work for others.

Maybe we just do a virtual tri with people that have coaches vs. the people that don't have coaches!

As you were.....

The only relatively new song I have added to my WO playlist is Cee-Lo Green's F--- You! (the explicit version). Very Motown in sound.

Super bummed about the loss last night.  Congrats to the Packers fans.  Maybe next time we'll show up before the 4th quarter though.  Please celebrate gently around me, I'm actually very emotional about these sorts of things!

Sam - I have absolutely no music suggestions for working out.  I haven't listened to music while working out in ages, and the actual music I do listen to would REALLY suck to workout to.  It's too mellow.  I also like the idea of pace runs instead of all long, slow distances!  If you have a goal, might as well practice it.

And I don't have a coach, so take my advice with a grain of salt.  I coach myself, and have no results to give from it!

Kyla - I LOVE that story about your daughter!  How cute.  Will it be a gift for the next occasion now?

REAL QUESTION AHEAD and ALL OPINIONS WELCOME

I have a 310XT and want to know how to use it to capture HR data when on the TM.  My current method is to disable the GPS, but when looking in TP, it doesn't pick up all the HR data..only some of it.  What do the rest of you do?

Born and raised in Illinois.  I absolutely bleed blue and orange, and have always.  Most of my family is more diehard about the Cubs, but I've always been a football person.  When it's something you're so passionate about that you want to make your career out of it, it's easy to be emotional and distraught about it, like I am!

And yes, Ryan is a packers fan.  I couldn't talk to him for most of the game or night last night.  He knows how serious I am about it though, and he's a more casual fan, so he didn't say much.

Suzy, that made me laugh!  I was wondering the same thing myself?  MOOOO!

It is a yoga pose. I just don't seem to bend this way!

I tried this.  I am glad I do Eischen's yoga which is based more on building strength that increasing flexibility.....I looked ridiculous.

Unfortunately flexibility is what I lack. So my hope is that with diligence I can gain flexibility by doing Yoga 2-3 times/week. The three routines I have are for base, flexibility and core. A lot of my exercises for my achillies are incorporated in these routines which range from 47 to 58 minutess. There are probably worse positions than this one, but for now this is my worst. I am about as good at this as I am at side crunches!

When I am cycling a bunch, I do this pose A LOT. I'll just put my legs in that pose and watch TV for about 10 minutes on each side. I add the arms in Yoga class, sometimes at home. I find it amazing that I can clasp my hands together easily on one side in the back, but need a strap and am about 2" away from touching hands on the other side. Anyway, I love this pose in the legs for opening up the hips.

Hmm, that seems strange.  I just start the timer with the GPS off and it records time and hr, not sure if they changed anything from the 305 to 310 on this though.

Doug, you must have ESP!  After my bike today, my left hip flexor was a bit aggravated and I thought, why don't I try Doug's cow pose.  It stretched it out and then some.  So much better!  Thank you.  Funny, the legs were easier on the side the arms were harder and vice versa!  I will add it to my repertoire.

I always keep a bunch of songs on my mp3 player on shuffle, and just FF if I don't like what I'm hearing. Oftentimes for runs I listen to NPR, talk radio, or local radio. That gives me current music.

Here are some old stand-by's from my playlist. Keep in mind I'm older than you! I also have funny songs that suit a situation -- like Laughter in the Rain by Neil Sedaka... very appropriate sometimes around here!!! (I actually have lots of rain songs!) My mostest favoritests get-me-going music, as I've said time and again and as you can see below, is the Foo Fighters. And for LSDs, I love stuff that is easy on the ears and rambling, like Grateful Dead and Dave Matthews. Reading through this since I've typed it up, I see I need to perk it up a bit with some newer stuff again, but honestly I don't listen to it often so it doesn't get old. Love the lists published as there are some great newer songs on there for me. (Dynamite is one of my son's most fave songs -- it is a good one to get going!)

Beautiful Day -- U2
Ocean Breathes Salty -- Modest Mouse
All My Life -- Foo Fighters
Box of Rain -- Grateful Dead
My Hero -- Foo Fighters
No Rain -- Blind Melon

Cold Day in the Sun -- Foo Fighters
The Last Song -- Foo Fighters

Sister Luck -- Black Crows
Let it Die -- Foo Fighters

Kyla - (a) I LOVE that you have RENT on your playlist.  La Vie Boheme=awesome!  (b) I owe you huge time on your swimming advice!  I focused on my breathing during today's swim, and I felt great.  I actually started taking fewer breaths and making sure I've gotten all the air out before I take another, and it's helped so far!  There's so much to focus on while swimming!

Ha! Thanks! Sometimes when Seasons of Love comes on I get moved to tears...then must FF very quickly.

And I think it was Kim that gave the breathing advice on swimming, so thank her! In any event, sooooo happy to hear you had a swim that rocked. That always warms the cockels of my heart.
