Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Anyone else had the kids home - school's closed due to snow? Two awesome days of sledding! Still can't work out. Doc looked at the incision in my back this morning and wants me to take it easy for two more days. BS!!!!! Rob, your comment about my 12 ounce curls was hilarious - I assumed you were kidding. Suzy, what's the plan with the leg difference? That's interesting. I'm shocked they would need a fancy scan to see a 1/2 inch. |

Come to think of it, would be a pretty big deal for me too. ![]() |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() CyborgQueen - 2010-01-08 4:29 PM Weekend: No races, but two rides. I have two rides lined up - Tomorrow is 25ish to 30 miles (easy pace, and this time I'm bringing my HRM to see how I do on the hills since this is the SAME ride I went last week, and I'm curious how high my HR gets), and THIS time I have NO frickin' excuse about not eating before the ride since the place is giving away free breakfast. Sunday is 10-15 mile ride easy recovery group ride, and BLV.com beginners ride, so I'm just hanging out to enjoy the ride. Maybe after they're gone, I will do some intervals on one of the Lake loops and hopefully get negative splits per lap (1.3 miles or so per lap). Hopefully no more than 20 miles on Sunday. Have I mentioned how jealous I am that you're riding in the hills around Vegas every weekend? I got a trainer in my basement with name on it on Sunday. blah~~~ And Ryan/Steve/Linda ..Glad to see Mora gone as well. OL was horrible, Hasselback cost me 1st in fantasy this year. I ended having to start Alex Smith in the finals here. Matt was not realiable. But Carroll? Wow, flashbacks to Bledsoe for me. Didn't Carroll quit on New England? I don't remember, but i thought it was a weird exit? L Edited by TrevorC 2010-01-08 9:25 PM |

If you want to ignore all of my posts for the next week I would totally understand! No races. Taking a little road trip with my daughter to pick up a new kitten (!!!), while my husband and son go to snow camp. Hoping to do a little bike/run brick, then taking Sunday off. Found the pool today for the first time in awhile. I always forget how much I love swimming until I go back to it again! |

Some struggle with the difference between the pool and ows and others don't. I strongly suggest doing some ows before your first tri. The nerves of the race may kick in and you need to feel comfortable in the water. OWS is a lot different to me....you can't see the bottom, you need to site often to keep a straight line, you have a lot of humans around you swimming like crazy people and there are no walls to grab if you need them. When I first started, I did it in shallow enough water I could stand up in if I needed to....strongly recommend it. And don't forget the fishies swimming below you....The 1st time i saw fish i was a little freaked out. |

I will make a post in the Ohio forums and see what I can find. You might be able to just get a few lessons from the local swimming pool etc. the expense is significantly less and it might make a world of diference to your stuyle. I know it helped me a coupl of years ago. I did 2 lessons per week for 6 weeks, I think< and it cost me only about 100.00 No hits yet on the ohio forums. Its not that I can t swim, I am a great swimmer, I just need to learn how to swim endurance. I burn myself out too quit and just need someone to watch my form and correct it so I can swim a longer distance/ It sounds like you may have the same issue as me. Less than two weeks ago (Dec 29th) I posted about my swimming endurance issue. At the time, I was struggling to make 300yds without stopping because I was going too fast (1:30/100). Since then I have done two things. First, I changed my warmup routine from swimming 200 straight freestyle, to swimming 300 mixed alternating between 50 free and 50 breast. This change prevents me from wasting my energy during my warmup. Then, on my main sets, I SLOWED DOWN. The key here was patience. I had to be patient, and make a concious effort to slow way down. As a result, I swam my first 1000 straight yesterday in 19:09. Still below 2:00/100, and now I have a good training pace that I can build from. Once my endurance is solid, then I can start pushing my faster paces again. Maybe it isn't your form, perhaps you just need to slow down ALOT, until your endurance is solid. Oh, and slowing down is FREE! Yay! So glad you found that slowing down and swimming with patience has helped. Keep it up and you'll find yourself getting faster and faster. Great job! |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I finally got my CT to communicate with my PC!!!! Thank you, Tony for your help. The cable from Racermate did the trick. I am sooooooooooooooooooooooooo happy right now! With the HIM only 2.5 months away, I hope I have time to improve my cycling. It is seriously lagging. Shot Steve (coach) an email saying I need to get down to business on the bike. His reply? "Be careful what you wish for"...yikes... I will do a TT this coming week and we will see what my power zones are. Sadly, I am positive they will leave lots of room for improvement. But I am ready! One month after marathon? Bring it on! |

I can listen to anything from Coffee House/Acoustic Music, to Hard Rage Against the Machine type stuff, or you can catch me listening to some 2 Pac, or Ice Cube..... IT REALLY DEPENDS! |

I'm shocked they would need a fancy scan to see a 1/2 inch. I know. Most doctors have you lay down, they shake out your legs and have you sit up while they are holding both of them. None of them saw it and said even if there was one it was probably not anatomical. My PT has always thought the leg length discrepancy existed and finally we convinced my sports med doc to let me have the x-ray. It is a cheap test and they give it to kids all the time. Even he was suprised with the results. The remedy will be to modify the right orthotic and use shims to adjust on the bike. Since I have lived with this for a very long time you only go half the discrepancy or it would be too hard for the body to adjust to and cause other issues, so about 6mm. In the meantime, I am using a heel lift under my current right orthotic. Off to do my Tracy mini marathon, a little Ab Ripper, a short swim and then another bike tonight.....TG I am not training for IM yet! Suzy Edited by SSMinnow 2010-01-09 6:09 AM |

Off to do my Tracy mini marathon, a little Ab Ripper, a short swim and then another bike tonight.....TG I am not training for IM yet! Suzy Suzy, Have you ever seen a chiropractor? I had ITB issues and went through PT like crazy, which I do think helped, but I attribute most to my chiropractor. I used to have some pretty severe scoliosis in my back, in highschool I had every test done under the sun and then some and doctors found nothing. My chiro found that my hips were between 1.25 and 1.5 INCHES different height and thus related to back problems I was having. Since I have moved, I switched and have made great strides at getting better. I also suppose as long as what you are doing is working in the right direction (insurance probably covers more than chiropractic) but I figured I would also toss it out there. I do not know what I would do if I didnt go there. I sprained an ankle and went in a few days later, she pulled it from being out of place, and I was back on the bike a couple days later immediately being able to put pressure back on that leg. |

Doug P.S. I am surprised that a bike fitter did not notice such a big difference as well. A good one would see that right away. Doug--No, I would never have enough thought of that. Paco is coming over on Monday so I will ask him. How would that work? Since we are in the process of building my new bike it might make the most sense to do it here. Yes? I have gone through fittings at Cronometro which is the most experienced LBS in Wisconsin and worked with Paco for years. Neither picked up on it. I guess I am not totally surprised when my whole cadre of medical professionals missed it. Only my trusty PT of the last 3-4 years believed it to be true, but no one would listen to him. He has been right on the stress fracture and now the leg length when everyone else missed it. Love him. Jeff, I have a posse of professionals to keep this old body in reasonable shape. I think your issue was probably phsyiological, whereas this is an actual anatomical difference. The only thing they can really do for it is provide build ups for my short side. It will require easing into it since this is the way I have been for a very looooooooong time! Glad to see you are getting benefits from your practioners! Tracy--just finished my mini marathon....thought of you on the TM. Hope your run tomorrow is perfectly spectacular!
