Hey Zombies,

Just got in 3.42 mi.  Chins are starting to get a little sore, does this mean I need to get new shoes?  I've lengthend my warm up and warm down and that has helped along with stretching.  How long do shoes tend to last?  I think I have about 350 miles on them.

Keep up the running, GO ZOMBIES!!

Here is a link to a thread on the GA Forums about shoes.  I started it wanting to know if you could stock up on shoes that were no longer going to be made, but it ended up being more about how long shoes last.

I'd say if your "chins" (ha, ha) are hurting it's definitely time to retire the pair you're wearing.  Do you keep track of the miles you put on them under your equipment tracker?

I don't think I have that feature.  I know I put about 250 on them before I killed my knees.  Then I found this site, got a training plan that has worked, so far, for me and have put about another 100 mile on them.  Just looking at total miles logged here and they are my only pair of shoes.

Everyone has equipment tracker - go to your control panel - then go to edit training settings and then there is a link to configure your equipment.

I'm not sure if the equipment tracker is only for the higher level memberships or not.  It is a nice feature though.  I usually have 3 or 4 identical pair in rotation and it helps keep track of them.

I retired my first shoes after 300 miles just because it seemed the right thing to do. My next shoes I started wearing through the heels after only 250 miles. I bought the second pair as closeouts identical to the first and then held onto them for a while before I started using them. Shoes wear out in large part due to compression of the rubber due to the pounding, but I can imagine that it might also break down some during prolonged storage so that they might not last as long later on.

7 for me today! Mile repeats, ouch!

As far as the question about shoes wearing out, I use 350 as a rule of thumb, but a lot of it depends on your stride, the brand of shoe, and a few other variables.  I have had some I dumped before 300 and others I was comfortable in up over 400.  Knock on wood, I have never had shin splints, but typically when a shoe is wore out it is because the cushioning is gone and for me it shows more in the ankle and knee joints, but I guess it is possible that it could show up in the shins.

Thanks for the info, maybe a shopping trip is on for this weekend.  Also can't believe I wrote "chins" instead of shins.  Too funny.Laughing

I assumed that !  Unless you are like me, putting my foot in my mouth on a regular basis, I figured the running wasn't affecting your chin!

7 miles today. Planning some longer routes for tomorrow and Saturday to finish up the week strong. No doubt the legs are feeling rested after going MIA for the past SEVERAL days - work, meetings, another wedding, b-ball coaching. So I'm ready! Oh...and my chin is feeling good, too! Let's go Zombies!

I got in 4+ last night.  I am really liking this new "running club".  Really got a chance to talk to Denise.  She does triathlons too.  A new training partner.  Deanna, the leader, is a hard core runner.  She runs nearly daily at 5am plus pulls us slugs around 2 days a week at night.  She laid out a good plan for us to train for a full marathon next year.  It's early in the season and gives me something to work on over the winter months.  Something to really think about.

Another 4.5 last night which puts me at 38.37 out of my 40 mile goal.  I think I'll up to 50.

So how's everyone doing?  Pretty quite around here.  Post your weekend plans here.

I've got a 40K TT tomorrow and am supposed to follow with a 40 mile "fun" ride afterwards.  Sunday is 1:30 run.

I normally have a 30 - 40 mile bike ride each Saturday and Sunday, weather permitting.  Looks like this weekend will hold up for a nice Fall ride both days.  I don't have any running plans, but I might take a quick run around the neighborhood.  I am far enough on my goal that I can take it or leave it.

Happy Friday ZzzzzzZombies!!!!

Bike and a brick run tomorrow then a 7 - 8 miler on Sunday.  I may stretch the brick run longer than the 30 minutes the plan calls for.  I like to do active recovery runs on rest days usually and figured when I put the current plan together I would do that.  I didn't realize how much the intensity of this plan would fry the legs ! But I am only a couple of percent behind so it shouldn't be a problem to catch up.

Have a great weekend and run lots!!!

I got another 6.2 miles in today.  I'm behind where I want to be with my running goal for the month... however, I'm over my goal for miles by the end of the year.  I wanted to log at least  1 mile per day -  so I've been over that goal, but today I got past the big 300 mile mark!  That's Craziness!!  I'm kinda stoked!  I didn't realize that was going to happen today until after I posted my run.

Anyway - I ran to the city park and then ran 5 laps around the park and through some trails.  I've never ran the trails at this park - it's a great option.  Great run today for me!

I work tomorrow, and being a Sunday (no training or station duties) I should be able to spend some time on the treadmill and elliptical.

Hope you all have a great weekend and get some miles logged!

I got another 6.2 in today in my 10k race. I hate to say it but I'm gonna drag you guys down a lot. I've been so busy with school these last two weeks I haven't had much time to run at all.

I had my duathlon today: 2 mile run, 10 mile bike, 3.1 mile run. Came in second in my AG, but awards were only for first, so no hardware or podium today

I don't know any of my splits because I completely mismanaged my watch but I know my official time was 1:25:16.

The coolest thing: as I was coming down the final stretch to the chute I saw that I could overtake the woman in front of me and poured it on across the finish line. As soon as we finished I saw that she was in my age group. That was the difference between 2nd and 3rd!

Got 2 miles in yesterday and 2 more in today to take me to a total of 32 out of 50. I am right on track to make it.

Great job to all who posted for the weekend - a duathlon and 10K among us.

I did a 40K TT yesterday followed by a 2 miles T run.  This morning I ran 9 miles - Woot, Woot!  Longest run in 3 years!

Sounds like an awesome race, congratulations!  And you were on the podium, even if there wasn't one there physically.
