I spoke with someone at IM World HQ two minutes ago.

I expressed extreme dissapointment at the website and the lack of information. ... I relayed that 12 days out and no course maps, course profiles, bike shipping information is unacceptable for a IM branded race.

She said things will be up BY THE END OF THE DAY and I can call her with any questions --- her name is Lauren and she was very nice and apologetic and said people are working hard to get everything up.

I emailed IMHQ yesterday also, expressing my concerns about the lack of communication, and also got a very prompt, very apololgetic reply. Trishie, I specifically asked him your question about bike shops for shipping your bike and he said that he'd have the IMRI RD email me directly today.

He said that if anyone else had specific questions that we could email him directly, so if anyone needs his info, I'm happy to provide it.

I regret having wasted all that time trying to get a response from the IMRI people rather than going directly to the "parent company", so to speak. Hopefully, IMHQ will put some pressure on the IMRI people to get their together and start acting like an organization "worthy" of the m-dot designation. They've got a franchise to look after.

Funny, I sent an email this AM and attached a link to this thread and another one on slowtwitch and mentioned it was not unreasonable for athletes to be getting nervous and upset about the lack of information and moreso about the lack of response from WTC considering many of us have to plan ahead for traveling specially due to the special logistics at this race (T1 and T2 on different areas). I asked if we could get some sort of athlete's guide in the very near future so we could go ahead an plan around.

I did make a snarky comment that probably it wouldn't be great PR or advertisement for this venue in the future given the amount of athletes participating on the treads attached (50+ participants on BT and another bunch on ST) and our ability to rate races on different sites or openly post complaints on forums or our blogs. Specially considering the other great HIM/70.3 options in the area.

Anyway, I did got an email from the same person stating we should have all the info today and apologized about it... I don't even know if I am racing or not (hoping to do so but a shoulder injury has derailed my swim training) however it kinda sucks the lack of communication by WTC with us the customers... I guess we shall see!

Maybe the race director was eaten while measuring the swim course.

http://news.wbru.com/2009/06/fishermen-catch-release-great-white-sh...

It says they feed on dead whales, so try to avoid looking like a dead whale during the swim.

They cleaned the end of the bike course up pretty nice from Cranston into Providence...the roads will be better. They did add a nice little bump right at the end of bike (Park St next to the mall).

Read on folks...

anyone else notice that after IMRI, on Sunday afternoon, is an on-site registration tent for IMLP 2010 - at least according to the guidebook.  just something to ponder...

Wait, Im confused. Is bike check in optional on Sat. or mandatory? It says optional in one part of the athlete guide but another part saying the bike needs to be in T1 before race day.

Can we bring our bikes in on Sunday morning? I'm getting conflicted info from the guide. Perhaps the author does not know what the word optional means? They use the word mandatory to refer to the run bag check in.

* Optional bicycle (T1) check-in is on Saturday, July 11, from 9:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m.
* Bicycles and run gear bags will not be permitted to enter either transition area on race morning.
* At Athlete Check-in, all athletes will be given a Bike Check-in parking permit for Saturday’s optional bike check-in activity.
* No bikes will be permitted on the shuttle. Athletes must check their bike in on Saturday if they plan to ride the shuttle.

Pretty cool..maybe I'll do RI70.3 the year I want to do LP again the following year. I live 25 minutes from this race and so much easier than driving to LP.

We had hoped to come watch you guys and cheer you up the hill on the run, but we are going to Minnesota for quick family vacation.  You all seem to be ready to taper and all that craziness..enjoy it!

Oh yes... I noticed that.  I wasn't going to say it aloud in fear that everyone would jump on the opportunity and somehow it would spoil it.  I filled out my volunteer application back around March.  Followed up with an e-mail in April, and two e-mails in June... and have heard nothing back.   The Volunteer Director even CC'd the Volunteer Team Leader on my last e-mail and said I would hear from him shortly.  That was almost two weeks ago.  Oh well, doesn't look like I'll be driving 6 hours up there to volunteer now.  I tried, though.

Did you also notice the slots available for Ironman's in 2009 that are sold out.  Hmmm...

Bike Check meaning having the bike checked for safety, etc...  the bike must be left at T1 overnight.  And also it says that we can only put a bag on the seat and a bike computer; no large bags over the entire bike

I'm ALL over this too! I was dreading driving up there and had decided to go community fund. This is saving me a ton of time and money. Yay!

Lotta buzz surrounding Page 27 of the Athlete Guide

Someone should have proof read it first. It has a lot of mistakes:

  • "we will begin registration for the 25 slots to each of the following 2009 races" (2010)
  • "All 2009 Amica Ironman 70.3 Rhode Island participants will have the opportunity to register on-site for the 2010 Ford Ironman Lake Placid" (is it all or just 25?)

No typo - I e-mailed a couple weeks ago about LP.

All athletes who raced in RI can sign up for 2010 LP.

However, they have 25-50 spots to other 2009 North American SOLD OUT ironman events.  So techniqucally, if you placed well enough you could qualify to the 2009 LP (hopefully you have been training and sign up for 2010 too.

I won’t be signing up for IMLP (or any other IM anytime soon), but I’m just curious about this:

I thought that one of the perks of racing and volunteering for an IM was that you had first crack at signing up for next year’s race, right? So, in theory, if a large chunk of the IMRI field decides to sign up for IMLP, there could be a substantial number of IMLP participants and volunteers that will be closed out before they get a chance to register, right? Not to mention all those people who are planning to drive up to LP on race day for the sole purpose of waiting in line to sign up for IMLP ’10.

Won’t they be pretty upset? And wouldn’t they have a right to be? I mean, it’s great for IMRI participants but I’ve never heard of Ironman doing this before.

And also:

Where's everyone staying?

I'll be at the Hilton with the wife and the boy. We're coming in Friday in the early afternoon.

Pre-race dinner will be at Cosantino's on Atwell. We have a couple of RISD graduates here and it came highly recommended.
