I called around and nothing so far. I guess I waited a little too long There aren't that many hotels in the area. I remember the week of the race registration many of the hotels filled up. My suggestion is maybe Easton, MD or Salisbury, MD since these are the big surround towns to Cambridge, MD. Easton is about a 20-25 min drive West of Cambridge while Salisbury is about 30 mins East of Cambridge. |

I ended up renting a house, check out Craigslist and VRBO and you might be able to find something. Good luck! |

Is there a course profile online anywhere? VERY VERY FLAT! I rode it today (check my logs) and it was pretty rough. My fitness isn't used to the distance and constantly peddling for that long. Good ride though. Elevation Map |

Pro 4608 Brooklyn, NY | Subject: RE: EagleMan Ironman 70.3 Triathlon : Official Thread I know a lot of folks are still looking for places to stay. I had a rental house on hold in Fishing Creek, MD, about an hour south of Cambridge that I'm releasing tonight. The logistics just didn't work out for my plans that weekend, but the house looks very charming and the owner was incredibly kind to deal with. I can pass along the info if anyone is interested since I know options are very scarce! |

Extreme Veteran 597 Fairfax | Subject: RE: EagleMan Ironman 70.3 Triathlon : Official Thread For anyone that has done E-man (or other HIM's or IM's), any recommendations for things to work on with less than 3 weeks to race day? This will be my first HIM so any last minute refinements I can do? Nutrition is dialed in, I think I'm covered with the distances (logs are up to date), maybe practice transitions? I was considering clipping my shoes into my bike and rubberbanding them up so I can be in/out of transition quickly. Flying mounts are not allowed, correct? Anything else IM-specific I should know about? Also, one other question, I bought my sleeveless wetsuit back when I was 210-215 lbs 2 years ago and it fit great but I'm down under 185 now, should I consider renting a better fitting wetsuit? How much difference/drag do you think it would create, and would it justify a $35 rental? |

See how loose the suit is on your and go from there. If the suit is loose around your arms just think of how much water is getting into your suit when you swim, slowing you down and etc. |

I would not worry too much about transitions other than to plan out what you need ready in T1 & T2 and have that laid out in your space. You don't want to waste a lot of time in transition, but there's no reason to rush through in long course either (unless you are angling for a top AG placement). Also, please do not try the shoes on the pedals without A LOT of practice. It's just not worth it. As far as the wetsuit, try it out and see how it fits. If it's really too big, you'd probably be better off with a new one/rental or go without. |

How much difference/drag do you think it would create, and would it justify a $35 rental? If you've been training and have your nutrition settled, there's not much you can do by this point. My one comment is about the terrain - I'm not sure if "awesomeworld" is hilly or flat. For me, I was used to training on hills, so it took some getting used to riding flats. I go faster on flats, but there's no coasting allowed. If you live in a hilly area, it may be worthwhile to find a flat course to do some riding on. Also, the run course has NO shade, so if it's hot and sunny (which it has been for 2 yrs in a row) be prepared for that (mentally and physically). It didn't really get to me last year, but I did eat a LOT of ice. |

Regular 105 Maryland | Subject: RE: EagleMan Ironman 70.3 Triathlon : Official Thread A few of us from the Frederick, MD area drove down for the day yesterday and trained on all courses. All I can say is....wow! It was hot and windy, which is definitely race-like conditions each year. The Choptank temp was nice and comfortable. Still at a wetsuit legal level though...for now. Bike course was windy, windy, and windy. The last 20 miles were tough, more so on the mental side. The run was hot with the 80+ degree temps. We ended up running 7 miles and that was enough for the day. It was a great day of training and it was a big reminder just how tough the course can be in certain conditions. But I am still excited and pumped for race day!! |

Member 38 | Subject: RE: EagleMan Ironman 70.3 Triathlon : Official Thread This will be my first Eagleman (and first HIM)-- I was planning on going alone but now thinking of bringing my husband and our three young kids along, assuming the weather cooperates. Does anyone know if there will be things to keep the kids occupied while I'm racing? Is the race site and course spectator-friendly so that they can come to a few different spots to watch? I see there is a tot lot at the park according to the website but just wondering how practical it is to bring the whole family down on race day. Our kids are 4, 4 (twins) and 2. Thanks for any input! |

I've done the course twice and also have little kids. There is a play area, but honestly it is so hot and exposed that I intentionally don't bring the family. I personally don't think its a great venue for little ones, but others can chime in. In 2007 I went with my wife and we both agrewd that it just wasnt the ideal course to bring little ones.I have to agree - there is very little to keep the kidletts occupied at Eagleman. Really the only time they get to see you is coming through transition or if you have them wait on the course near transition. My wife came down a few years ago and if she didn't have a book she would have been board out of her mind. The kids stayed home That being said - it's always nice to have a cheering section at a HIM. If they want to come make sure they have lots of distractions. There is also a small beach at about the 1/2 mile mark of the run where they could waste their time while you are out on the bike and run. Good luck! |
