Hey Ballyard:

I'm in 69, looks like we'll be across from each other.....yeah I am not sure what the deal with the "closed" washouses is.  When we went down for the training weekend, most of the bathouses were closed.  The one just down from where we are at has really nice showers though (minus the puke all over the bathroom)!!!

I looked on the web site's schedule but couldn't see if the swimming area would "officially" be open for swim practice before the event. I seem to remember last year they opened a separate beach for swim practice on Saturday but it seemed like a pain to locate. I know some BTers did though...

We should set a time Saturday for a BT group meet and greet, no? Maybe late afternoon to give everyone a chance to do bike check in, but before dinner time? Whatcha think?

so, I am a slacker and never reserved a campground... Would anyone that has extra space be willing to share a site? I'll split the cost with you.

I have a camp site and would not mind sharing the area.  I think each reserved camp site receives two vehicle passes so I would be more than willing to let you have the second one.  I am at site 74 and plan on getting there friday evening. Feel free to PM me.

Hey for those out there who have done this event, can someone explain to me how they do the swim start?  I read that we begin from a boat dock and can't imagine how that is done.  Any thoughts would really help!  The nerves are on overdrive!

I haven't done the race, but have been to the site and seen the swim start.  It is at a boat ramp rather than a boat dock.  I can only imagine it would be a wading start.  Definitely not 100% sure, but the best I can tell from what I saw.

Exactly right... it's more of a "ramp" where you can walk into the water. If I remember correctly, the waves got all the way into the water, but not so far you were treading at the start. I dunno, maybe the people in front were, but I believe I could still touch the bottom when the gun went off. Definitely IN the water though.

Lisa is right, you walk down the ramp between two of the boat docks.  It is actually like cows be herded into the water ... There was plenty of time between each heat for swimmers to position themselves in the back, to the right, to the left, or wherever you are most comfortable at the start of a swim.  It was actually pretty organized, just find people with the same color swim cap and stick with them!

I would like a Saturday swim.  What time?  I'm rolling in sometime on Saturday.  Was planning to arrive Friday night, but my daughter has a summer swim meet on Friday night.

I inquired through the web site to see when the swim area would be open Saturday, because right now there is nothing on the schedule to indicate that it will be (as there has been in years past). I'll let you know if I hear back so we can plan a group swimmy.

I'd imagine that it would be open. We are in for a little something on Saturday.

We have booked that dinner on Friday (or Saturday?) with Chrissie Wellington to benefit ALS. Laughing
