Hey, all you folks on formal training plans, are you coming from an inactive state? Someone mentioned they just recently tried running... for the first time since when? I'm not on a training plan & wasn't last year for my first IM. I just make sure to do my long bike ride in the weekend & do the rest of my training on my commutes to/from work (13 miles). Anyway, all this is to say: You CAN do this! So, LET'S GET IT ON!!!!!!

That would be yes. Pretty much. Thanks for the encouragement!!!

I'm not exactly on a formal training plan ... I bike lots, run a fair bit, swim whenever the heck I feel like it (=never, maybe tomorrow), try to make sure that it's at a conversational pace but one that won't make me fail the time limits either, and figure that if my volume comes somewhere near what the BT Beginner 20-week plan states, that's the best I can do.

This is all Daniel's fault ... I felt guilty looking at all the even bars in his logs, plenty o' purple ...

So I swam "tomorrow" (today) and now the entire left side of my neck is one giant blistered raw wound from a jellyfish.

You know how they say, "Stick to the plan!"

I'm going back to "never, maybe tomorrow."

Livestrong191 - 2010-07-20 12:17 AM Well I decieded it too short of a time to prepare for a full Ironman so I am out BUT I will come  help out at the race. Unless someone needs a swimmer for race.

If your logs are correct, yeah, I'd say you just missed the train.

But if you've been reasonably active the last few weeks, ain't too late.

I think I missed the biscuit and gravey boat on this one.
swim 100% OK to do no problem
Bike  100% Ok to no problem
Run   60% OK no way a full marathon after all that lol.

I swim the course twice a week and have done the bike ride for the full and half twice. I am happy to do  a relay but in my heart not ready fully for a full

I agree on the heat.  I would sure like a nice cool training day.   My training is going well.   The heat has slowed my paces down but the effort  and intensity are there.

Hey all!
Just swinging by.  Training took a hit last week with a death in the family and a trip to So. Calif for the services, etc.  Not a big issue as I am only doing the relay (Swim and bike) and was way ahead on my bike training.  Swimming is behind schedule but my masters swim coach told me she will make sure I will be ready.  Glad to see the thread active.

Lots of energy in this thread; I like it!

My own training has been pretty inconsistent - an assortment of chronic ouchies has kept me from racing much so far this year and until it sold out, I was inclined to switch to the half. Oh well, I guess I'm committed now...

Swim: good enough to get it done
Bike: plenty of base/no top end speed
Run: Hopes for actually running the mary getting dimmer and dimmer

Good luck to all with their own training. The trick is just making it to the start line!

I'm w/you Alltom.  I'm just south of you in Macon.  Watching the count down of available race slots while nursing back to health.  There's still 350+ slots, so I have plenty of time to watch before plunking down the loot.

I too am limping along, trying to walk the tightrope of injury/recovery/training.  Had shoulder surgery earlier this year and hip piriformis just won't be quiet.  Lots of stretching, strength work, rolling on balls, and ice multiple times a day.  Adds about 1.5 hrs to the schedule, but at least I can do it these days watching the TDF and still carrying on w/family.

This year was my 3rd training year after the couch ejection, and was supposed to culminate in a 140.6 event, so I'm insistent on trying to make this work and meet my goal.

I'm sorry about your family member ...

Anyhow, quite happy you'll be at B2B, it'll be great to meet you!

"only" doing the relay, ha ha I hear an Iron Aquabike is no joke!!!

I can wrap my head around the aquabike portion of it, but not also topping off with a marathon. I'll probably be long done with it before I can wrap my head around it ...

TriAya - thanks!

As for the Aquabike, it definitely is not something to take lightly.  Not sure a full IM is in my future.  Knee surgery a couple of years ago pushed me to doing Tri's and less running.  Dr's recommendation of not doing a marathon if I wanted to continue walking still rings in my ears.  With Aquabikes becoming more popular for longer distances (and I can still do sprints) I think I am set.

Coming off my best week to date.  I was on vacation last week and took advantage of it to get in some good workouts.  I am good at this point where I feel I need to be.  This starts week 5 of the 20 weeks intermediate IM training for me.  Hope everyone is doing well and look foward to meeting all at B2B.

I was looking at the participants list and sorted by age the other day and found out a friend I met at a sprint early this year and lives about 3 miles from my house is doing the IM B2B.  I called him and told him we were both signed up and we had a laugh.  He was busy training and so was I.  Looks like several from Florida coming up to Wilmington.

100+ degrees and 80% humidity. I've got to train as the sun is coming up or before to get any time in.

Right now it's reading 103 degrees. Glad I got my bike in earlier.

I need to get on longer rides!  My swim and run are going well.  With the run I know if worse comes to worse you can always walk/run.  Cycling is my weakness so as long as I can get done with 112 on the bike I know I can finish.

What's everyone's longest bike ride so far? I've only done a 50  but I'm confident (well, I keep telling myself) that I have plenty of build-up time.

I've done a few 90+ miles but that was a couple months ago. Only being 4 weeks into this training schedule 50 miles or so is the longest ones called for so far

I have done a 60 and 70 ride in the last few weeks.  Looking to build up over the next 4 to 5 weeks closer to 112

For this round of training it was 40 miles, did 56 in April ;>

Training plan calls for longer rides in a few weeks.  Wrapped up Jorges 12 week program and have switched to the BT IM program except I am still throwing in some of his intervals 1-2 times per week.  This week was a good week for swimming.  Not huge distances but definitely improving my stroke and getting a good base in.

From the responses so far, looks like I'm not too far behind on bike mileage. Excellent! Now... three weeks w/out swimming... that's gotta change--ASAP!

Looks like I'll probably be in for the iron distance aquabike. I'll be watching slots just in case, but probably waiting until after a half distance aquabike in September to sign up.

I'm changing gears after hearing news of a foot stress fracture. Doc says don't plan on competing in any running events for the rest of the year, so I'm switching focus to swim and bike endurance events for the rest of the season.

I'm all set on the swim, just have to get the bike mileage up. I'm going for my first 40+ this weekend.

longest ride is about 60 miles with about 5 50 milers so far.  The heat in NJ has just been brutal.  Looking forward to cooler temps for B2B

My longest this year is about 60, and I'll add a few more of that ilk between now and Half Vermont Journey (half-iron) on August 29.

Between then and Sept 18 I have two olys - Burlington (VT) and Lake George (NY) - and I will overdistance slightly for both on the bike.

That leaves two weeks until Oct 2, when I will do MightyMan Montauk (half-iron). I will definitely overbike for that, with maybe a 65 and a 75, or a 70 and an 80.

And then I enter the Twilight Zone leading up to B2B, where I have great plans for the final bike build -- if only Mother Nature can keep things from getting too cold. Up here (Ottawa, Ontario) there is the annual disincentive (aka: autumn) against long rides, and that can start by mid-October. Uh-oh? So as much as the heat even up here has been brutal for too much of this summer.......I need it to extend into, oh, about the first week of November.
