Alpharetta, Georgia | Subject: RE: Full Vineman Triathlon : Official Thread brown_dog_us - 2013-02-25 10:34 AM I learned a valuable lesson: The people who book through the Best Western website are guaranteed their room selection, but when you book through the travel site it is simply a request. I learned this the hard way a number of years ago. I'd booked through hotels.com and chosen the hotel solely for its proximity to the finish line of my first marathon. They called to tell me they'd over-booked and I was being bumped to a hotel 7 miles away. It was a ridiculous mess that involved speaking to a non-English speaker oversees, being hung up on multiple times, and ultimately being booked into a hotel 2 miles away with no other compensation or apologies. Since then, I have signed up with a rewards account through my favorite chain, and ONLY book directly through their sites or agents. If you do this, you are GUARANTEED your room and preferences. All other sites, like you said, are merely requests. Even your reservation is merely a request as the travel sites routinely overbook. |

Regular 108 Raleigh, NC | Subject: RE: Full Vineman Triathlon : Official Thread Not checked in for a wee while. Good to see most are still going strong, I've always been told consistency is major factor so well done everyone. I've not hit all of my workouts and missed a couple of long workouts or cut them short but it is what it is. Hoping to try to add in a couple of yoga type flexibility classes in the coming weeks. Interesting reference the Hotel thing, I was not aware of that. Hoping to book my hotel next month I think, looks like I'm going to try for the Flamingo also. As I think I will more than likely be flying solo this trip and experience and with all the logistics of different transitions, start and finish not sure though what the best option is to go for reference my car being at the start and distance from finish line. Any advice/opinion would be greatly received. |

Any advice/opinion would be greatly received. I originally was going to go solo until I talked some my wives friends to come along for the ride and make it a small vacation as well cheer me on for some direct support. When I was looking at going it solo I was strongly considering camping near the start, actually across the river, from the start and taking local bus transportation from Windsor back to Guerneville after registering. I did some research on schedules. I would've left my vehicle parked near as I could to the finish and be able to drive back to Guerneville after finishing. I am so glad others are coming with me. I am staying at the Flamingo and they'll be able to drive me to the race start and CARRY ME TO THE CAR AFTER. : ) |

Expert 1276 Salem | Subject: RE: Full Vineman Triathlon : Official Thread I bought a used aero helmet Giro Advantage 2 to try out. I am not sure I like the way it fits over the ears. What are folks going with for Vineman? I need a new helmet, but I may stick to a lighter and more vented road helmet; albiet more expensive. |

About the special needs bags...how do they work? Do you put one together yourself and label it and they have it at a waypoint on the course? What do you have in it? Is it hard to find yours? |

Do you remember if the special needs bags are at the half way point? Inquiring minds want to know There is a very tiny changing tent in T1 and a larger one (not convenient) in T2 at the high school. Some people brought large towels to T1 and did a change boogie there. T1 also had limited port-o-pots. I think there were two near the change tent. The change tent is is at the swim exit. You set up T1 on race morning and leave your gear at your bike. To use the change tent, it is swim exit, bike, change tent, bike, bike start. |

About the special needs bags...how do they work? Do you put one together yourself and label it and they have it at a waypoint on the course? What do you have in it? Is it hard to find yours? They will give you all of your bags at race checkin...morning clothes, T1, T2, Special needs bike and special needs run. It's labeled with your race number and as you go through special needs area, yell out your number and a volunteer will give you your bag. As for what to include; depends on you. Right now I don't do SN bike, but here's what some people include; Spare tube, extra nutrition, have seen a can of Coke, Red Bull, peanut M&Ms, even a turkey sandwich! SN Run; bandaids, more nutrition, extra pair of socks, long-sleeve shirt if you are going be on the course after sundown...it can be cold in the evening. |

Aaaah thank you. I'm likely going to stick with not having to undress after the swim. Just throw on my bike jersey over what I'm swimming in. Sounds like it's a pain to change in T1. |

Inquiring minds want to know Bike special needs is shortly after you pass the high school to end the first loop while you are still in town. Run special needs you pass after exiting T2 and after the first lap and after the second lap. You can access run special needs at any of these times. I did not get my bike sn bag back last year. I did go back and grab my run sn bag with no problem though. |

Won't use T1 Tent. I hear it is pretty small. I am also understand that you have to retrieve your own bike SN bag. Will try to give it some color by tying some kind of ribbon to it; I suppose others might do the same, but even if they do I am guessing you'll still find it faster.jmkizer - 2013-02-26 1:04 PM lisac957 - 2013-02-26 1:59 PM jmkizer - 2013-02-26 12:51 PM kenb - 2013-02-26 12:15 PM For those of you who have done this race before, are there changing tents? There were volunteers at SN when I raced here in 2010 who handed you your bag Family is not allowed, unless they are volunteers. SN bags are numbered and placed in order. Even if there were no volunteers, this is a small race, not thousands of bags as in a branded Mdot race |

They might not be allowed to pick anything up on the course, when I have volunteered at the SN areas at other Tris, we would load the bags back on a truck to be sent to the finish area. At the finish area either the participant or their family could pick up the SN bags |

Expert 977 Huntington Beach | Subject: RE: Full Vineman Triathlon : Official Thread Oh I just meant I would have them be at a certain point cheering for me and have any supplies that I might need with them so that I don't have to fuss with the official SN bag. The way my saddle is feeling lately, I may need them on the road with a pillow for my seat about half way through the bike. haha |

Shoot. That probably means that they would frown on me having my kids just push me on my bike up some of the hills and carry me on parts of the run too. Darn

I believe it is against the rules to get assistance. Although I did see someone in a video get help from his wife on the run. Liquid and ice. Doesn't mean it was OK. I do believe you can have someone take your T1 gear for you before you leave T1. |

I was dreading the bike but it wasn't so bad and I think it actually loosened my legs up after. |
