Okay. Caught up now. But probably not for long.

This has been a really crappy month for me. Not as bad as for some of you. I don't have a broken bone that needs to be re-broken and re-set, for example

I had just started getting back into running, and I was knocked out with some kind of inner ear issue. No infection. But cripes. I spent Thursday and Friday popping motion sickness pills and pouring wax drops in my ear trying to clear out the blockage.

So of course, my body is stressed, so my BP starts rising. I was not going to go back into the doctor (I was seeing the campus nurse about my ear), so I chewed my blood pressure medicine to get more immediate effect. I took one in the morning, as usual, then at about 1:00, chomped one down. My BP was still high, but not ridiculous.

I seriously considered snorting the stupid medicine.

Anyway. We managed to evacuate some of the wax (it literally rolled out of my ear. Gross), but I'm still feeling some pressure and a little pain. It's not infected, however. So who knows.

At least I am back to my more normal snarky self. I'm off the motion sickness medicine. My blood pressure is back to normal. And I can sit here at the computer without feeling that I'm going to lose my cookies.

Love you all. Sorry I've been so out of it.

Felicia I am sorry you have been struggling. Frustrating going from one thing to another.  Glad to hear you are feeling better!

I am sorry that my post about finding the thread was so insensitive. I am also extremely sorry that some members of our community have been hateful towards this very brave lady and others. To put herself out there like that has taken enormous courage that should be encouraged and supported.

We all need to be a little less judgmental and a little more tolerant towards each other. Maybe if we could do that eventually there will be less bombs and wars and assaults on people because they look or act a little bit different and young girls wont get shot in the head just because they want to learn to read.

I hope that you all have a great day and get to spend some time with those that you love.

The Decline of the BT Community

TT is seriously without  a collective sense of humour at the moment.     Me posted a thread over there and it ain't sexy enough even to get a single reply all day.

Also, seriously embarrassed by what is happening in another thread.

Winter is here.

yes. 100% agree.

That other thread needs to come down. It's ludicrous.
well now I need to go and find it and read it.

Well, I missed all the hubbub, thankfully. But I can imagine. What is wrong with people? Just so you all know, I make it a practice to NEVER think about ANY of you having intimate relations with ANYONE. I try not to think of your "bathing suit" parts at all. Just for the record.

And I'd appreciate it if you did the same for me. Believe me, you do not want to know what goes on in my bedroom or kitchen or living room  . . . . Oh, wait a minute.

Never mind.

I think I understand what you are saying ... and find the humor in part of it.

But if you are speaking about keeping quiet about who we are, than I can't disagree more. When my family and church and supposed friends turned their back on me when I came out, the people who were "out" were huge role models for me and played a VERY important role in me coming to terms with who I was.

It is VERY important for people to be out, and let people know. I'm not saying you need to know "intimate details" and hopefully that is what you were referring to.

I had never really thought about this from your perspective.  I guess the silence turns into another unspoken "don't ask/ don't tell" policy which forces people with other view points to feel belittled.  At first it's a subject that one would not think needs to be part of a triathlon board--but people with spouses and kids spend time talking about their families.....J is your family and others here on BT also have partners as their family.  It would be ignorant for myself--or anyone to banter on about our little roost at home but not listen to your domestic life tales--dirty laundry and finding the right detergents and all!

No. You don't want to hear about Salty's domestic life. From what I can tell it mostly consists of cat puke.

Not in the least.

What I ultimately found awesome (among many things) about that thread was that it was ONE member of the community who was an azzhat, and he stood out so profoundly because of it.

And that the 99% rallied around the OP.

One thing I love about BT is how self-policing it is. However, the difficulty with contentious threads is that one or several bad posts gets quoted and then we often have to pull the whole thing, or delete a bunch of posts which had good content but we don't have the time to edit out all the quoted crap.

It also remains BT policy that you cannot name-call or direct negative comments at someone's person, no matter how true they may be or how much the person deserves it. You can pretty much say whatever you want about what they SAID, though, and even how they said it.

well now I need to go and find it and read it.

The other thread  had one argumentative person stir up a lot of people.  Some of it was handled well.....others probably heard from moderators.  It is an embarrassment to see something turn into an internet brawl.  The argumentative person--well there's no saying why he posted like that.  It is embarrassing to have a relative newcomer to the site start a thread and have it turn to shyte.

Well, I feel like it would probably be weird for me to not address these comments, as I was one of the main contributors to that thread.

Interestingly, the only two people I have heard from about it are LB, and a gay man on BT thanking me for standing up repeatedly for the LGBT community in posts.  I am actually a little surprised I didn't hear from mods, but I am going to PM Ron and apologize.  My BT has been extremely slow to load for the last two days, and I wrote the last post (which has been deleted)  in that thread not having seen Ron's request to make it more civil.

Perhaps I should have kept it more civil and focused on Trigirl.  That certainly was an approach many others took, and I think, in general, that's a good technique.  However, I also believe that the reason that others could take that approach is because a couple of us were directly taking on the problem.
It may not be your style--that's totally cool, and I totally get that--but it's also not my style to let people get away with saying the things that were said there.  If my responses made it escalate and you don't think it would have gotten as out of control as it did, you may very well be right.  I need to own that.

POD, I will say this: I am fiercely loyal to my friends and the things that are important to me. I stand up to hateful language like that because it is extremely destructive and hurtful.  An excerpt from the PM I received yesterday:

...Sometimes peoples words can be so hurtful. I often wonder how they can say the things that they have said.I have pretty much just within the past few months come to terms with being gay, after knowing for years. It is those peoples words who wouldn't allow me to accept who I was... too many people (including myself!) are not vocal enough. I grew up with an extended family (my immediate family is awesome! Thank GOD they are the black sheep of the family) that is quite homophobic and always makes horrible remarks. They don't know I am gay and have no idea how much those words can hurt someone, especially when I was younger.

I'm sorry if you disagree with the way I handled things in that thread.  My intent was certainly not to bring down the BT community.   Quite the opposite.

Peace.

you were outraged and incensed if i hadnt been on the dumb mobile app id have said more!

peace out sista!

surgery update

initially told to fast from 7am report to hospital 1.30pm

at 9.30 - already starving dr secretary called said come at three you can eat til 10 - quickly made bacon eggs and mushrooms and big coffee.

got to hospital at 3pm. told by one of the many incredible staff that i was scheduled last at 6pm. i passed the hours on fb and too many gossip mags - that Jennifer Aniston constantly pregnant then not!

nurse said at 5.30 its gonna be a while, but your op is only about an hour....told DH to come see me at 9pm he said thats too late an argument ensued

turns out he had the right idea i finally got operated on at 9.30pm. came to at 1am. one little up chuck when they removed that throat tube but all good.

taken to ward of four one sleeping less than peacefully she snored like a drain. ear plugs. BP remained too low so no sleeping pills

all went well. Gung ho anaesthetist gave me an arm block now 18 hours on still no feeling lol. better than pain - do you have any idea how heavy a dead arm is?

i'm home just chillaxing waiting for pain. i have horse tranquilisers when that starts xx

Wow, sorry for all the delays, but glad it is all done!  Don't wait too long to take pain meds, easier to prevent pain than knock it back once it starts.

Couldn't swim or aquajog or walk yesterday due to weather and today's a wash too ... storm wasn't too long but it was so powerful it knocked my brother's 3m cement garden wall over and his garden is now in his pool! Here at the Crazy Castle it rained and blew sideways into my room through double windows thick-glassed and rubber-sealed. Kaboom.

On the left, you can see the ladder going into what used to be the pool. The rest of the pic is crumbled wall and garden and such a fresh new look of the whole neighborhood!

His wife already went through and put all the little flowerpots that weren't totally wrecked back up ...

Congratulations, especially since you were not able to run for a while! Your post made me take a look at my totals and I'm up about 150 miles on my run total. Of course, last year I was unable to run for about 1.5 months, so my gain is not that impressive

Question for you bike savvy folks:

I have added intensity this year to my bike training. Strava segments seem to help me on this. I am trying to find a happy medium though. When running, I follow the old adage, "run often, mostly easy, sometimes hard". However, the bike is a bit different, so I'm just trying to get some ideas as I put together a bike program for the winter. How often do you ride hard vs recovery rides?

I must be doing better (at least mentally).  I ran a marathon this weekend.  I still have PT and did not get her blessing to run that far but she did know that I was contemplating and figures that she can fix my ouchies on Thursday at my next appointment. Sanity issues, she says she cannot fix and I just have to live with being a bit crazy to do 26.2 with no training.  I didn't die, so all is well.

Oops, just realize you were talking to the other Jo.  Dang, that gets confusing.  Disregard the above.  Wrong Jo.
