I signed up for Racine a couple of weeks ago....  I am really looking forward to it, but a little scared.   I got a lot of work to do this winter and spring.

Me too.  Buffalo Springs - June 08   (Registered so I can't back out)

Finally got my long runs up to 10 miles, so I figured that's close enough.  Nervous about the 1/2 IM but the really scarey thought is:  I'll be playing IM roulette with the on line sign up for IMFL on Sunday.  What am I thinking?   (I'm thinking that's a whole year away -- thinking I'm really foolish -  thinking what am I thinking?)  Wish me luck.

Guess I need to get a wet suit and maybe some aero bars and start training.

hey, I haven't visited over here in a while.  I have a question for anyone who has already competed in a HIM distance.  I've been reading and studying training plans from a book published by Triathlete magazine and it calls for 2 a day practices 3 days a week since there are 9 workouts a week and a day of rest.  How did you balance crazy work hours, the family and your work outs?  I work 4 days a week (3-8 hr shifts and a 12) and I have to take call 12 hrs a month (I usualy tack 4 hrs of call time to an already worked shift so I don't have to give up a day off to be on house arrest in case the ER needs me).  Currently, I go in at 11 AM at least once a week so I can make the 0545-0745 swim sessions.  I have roughly a 45 min commute each way...do you see where I'm going here?  Just not sure the training time actually fits with life and sanity.  I really want to do it but don't want to become a maniac in the process.  And my "rest day" is the one that I work 12 hrs since there isn't time to do much else those days anyway...(if you call running around in the ER a day of rest you haven't been in one lately)

Hey Triaya!!!!!! CA 70.3 here we come!!!!! I kind of made up my training schedule ( built it from schedules I found), I have a marathon in January, so it's a little challenging, I'm trying to run 5-6x a week, bike 3, and swim 3, after the marathon I hope to move the bike up to 4, and add 50 mile rides on the weekends ( I did a 50 miler last weekend, so I know it's doable). Swimming is what I'm worried about, I'm taking lessons 3 times a week, and hope to schedule some personal lessons from the tri coach. We've got to have a BT get together at after the race!!!!!! I'm so nervous already! I keep thinking " Can I really do this".....

Sadly, this year will be the first in 3 years I will NOT do a 1/2 iron.

It's time to focus on being the best I can be, and I am a shorter distance guy.  Once I either A) go pro and then retire, or B) realize I can't get good enough to go pro and give up- THEN I will probably do another...followed closely by a full...

This, of course, is subject to change by next week...

Good luck to all those that are doing a 1/2 next year!  Especially the rookies!

I'm signed up for High Cliff 70.3 and Steelhead 70.3.

This year will be my third time at Steelhead, I love that race. I talked one of my brothers who does tris to come up from Florida to do it too. It's going to be a great time.

I want to... but I am having a baby in March and I am not sure I can get to that point in 2008. I live in the same town as the Steelhead, but I don't think I can be ready. Plus I did a race last year in Lake MI and it was absolutely brutal (50 degrees and wavy in July).

So, I will see how things go and hope for the ability to get in Sept or later. You just never know. I don't know if I will have enough time to train with a toddler and newborn! Plus I will be nursing... Ay de mi! Maybe 2009 is more realistic?

I am planning to do a HIM in '08, but I haven't signed up yet. Can't figure if I want to do the Grand Columbian in Washington state or the Big Kahuna in Santa Cruz. I won't be ready for the other ones on my current training schedule, but I'm pretty sure I'll be ready for one of these two

Well, I found another one. If I can get to training two months earlier, I'll enter the Barclays North Ironman 70.3 World Qualifier.

I hope it doesn't get filled up by the time I have the money to pay the registration fee

I am registered for the Ironman Boise 70.3 on June 1st.  It will be my first 1/2 and probably my sixth Tri (3 sprints a 1/4 man and an Olympic in 2007) unless I do another Olympic in May 2008.
