You HAD to go and say that didn't you? 3 foot waves? I'm in trouble. I am in trouble if they are 6", I need glass flat water to fake my swim in! Did a OWS in 14" chop once, it wasn't fun. When I did the Redman 140.6 the chop was probably 1.5 - 2 feet. It was rolling me completely over. This is why my swim took 2 full hours. Not pretty. |

Just wondering...will the roads during the iron cross be completely closed to traffic? Or if my folks wanted to drive out to one of the turn around areas from transition, would they be able to? |

Alpharetta, Georgia | Subject: RE: IM Kansas 70.3 Good question. In the athlete guide it mentions that the park will close at like 6:40 a.m. so let your spectators know. I'd hope there would be some alternate way spectators will be able to watch as my cheering section will not want to sit around all day. They will probably want to roll in closer to the finish. |

They also mention that the "cross" will be a great area for spectators so I'm not sure how they'll handle that. I was trying to figure it out when I was out there the other day but the county roads are all about a mile apart so unless they implement some sort of shuttle bus system or something then the roads will have to be open on some level, even if just one lane. |

Were there hills in those pictures, I saw some speed bumps..... Bob, let's see what you say after our ride on Sunday. You are going think they moved the Kansas border about 200 miles west. I am guessing the hills will be similar to what we will see in Kansas. And, gulp, the early forcast calls for, you guessed it, wind.

At least I'll get a chance to ride the whole bike route. Did anyone figure out what was going on with the construction? When I was out there I just rode along that rode that heads West. It's just steady rollers, nearly level for as far as I went. Hopefully that's the correct road for the race course! |

Champion 34263 Chicago | Subject: RE: IM Kansas 70.3 Bripod I thought you weren't doing this race. Anyway I'm gearing up ... I'm riding hills, doing lots of long bricks and drinking lots of Jameson. It should be a good time. I'm driving the route on Monday, May 5, to see what it looks like. If I see any cyclists I'll stop and ask if they're BTers and if they say `What???' I'll run them over, you know, just to keep people off OUR course. |

I registered like the day after it opened up. Depending on how my foot holds up I'd like to continue through the rest of the season but if it just gets worse then I'm going to have to figure something out to try and get this corrected [most likely via orthotics]. |

Pro 4339 Husker Nation | Subject: RE: IM Kansas 70.3 Well is it too early/too stupid to start asking about finish time predictions? At this point I'm simply hoping to make it in under the 8 hr. cutoff. I think I'll make the bike cutoff okay but having legs to run on will be up in the air considering my total mileage running in 08 so far is 30 miles... I'm workin' on it. Anybody else? |

I will be happy with anything less than 5:30:00, however a few of us are putting braggin rights on breaking the 5 hour barrier, I really don't know if that is possible for my sorry old arse this early in the season or ever, however I am going to give it full throttle, enjoy the company, and have fun with a big grin on my face! |

I hope to finish under the cutoff this is my third tri and 1st HIM. I'm totally stoked about the whole thing. Just thinking about it make my heart rate go up! I'm looking forward to the "Ironcross". |

I'd be happy with under 5:45, but i'd be really happy sub 5:30. I did a 6:00 at IMCalifornia back in March and that was with really crappy winter training in spin class. Run and swim were in good shape, but to many spin class sessions to get the bike time down. |

Alpharetta, Georgia | Subject: RE: IM Kansas 70.3 Finish times? LOL. I've been making Tom calculate (he's the math major) how fast I will have to do each sport in order to not be pulled from the course! I will be DANG proud of any finish time, as long as I am running across that finish line. |

Extreme Veteran 330 Omaha, NE | Subject: RE: IM Kansas 70.3 I just did my first tri a couple weeks ago - it was an OLY and took me about 3:27. I've said all along that my goal is to finish the HIM! But as it gets closer, I find myself really wanting to come in under 6:30. I'm not sure how feasible that is . . . one thing is for sure, I need LOTS of bike time between now and then! Wow . . . "then" is coming up pretty fast!!! |

I think I'll make the bike cutoff okay but having legs to run on will be up in the air considering my total mileage running in 08 so far is 30 miles... I'm workin' on it. Anybody else? I figure it is sheer folly for me to try to predict my time, and possibly approaching hubris (forgive me tri gods), but this sort of thing is fun, so I will do it anyway. I would be thrilled to break 5:49, which would be an hour off the time from my disasterous HIM last September. I would be delighted with anything under 6:00, and would be pretty happy, regardless of finishing time, if I am able to run the run (as opposed to doing the ironman shuffle). Having not seen the bike course and with the weather an enormous variable, who knows. As an example, I rode almost 70 last Sunday with bvfrompc, on a route that I think will be similar to the Kansas 70.3 course in terms of hills, with 20+ mph winds. We averaged 21.1 mph on the outbound portion, and 13.4 mph coming back into the wind. I suspect my speed for the bike split speed will be somewhere between these two extremes, but I doubt be much more precise. |
