Plainsman AU - 2009-06-01 10:33 AM How do you figure the number of laps on a running track for 3.1 miles.  Would it be 12.5 laps?  I guess 4 laps would be 3 miles, but what about the .1?  Is there a true measurement on the track, or use the garmin?

1 lap = 400M (normally)
4 laps = 1 Mile

I would just use the garmin, because actually 1600M is not exactly 1 mile anyways.

dalessit - 2009-06-01 9:31 AM BTW if you are really looking for a tri-bike and ride a 56ish you are in luck, that seems to be the most common size for sale for some reason.  Just looked on ST and there are 3-4 for sale in the first few pages...Laughing

Tony: "ST"? What is this abbreviation for?

Thanks,
Doug

Plainsman AU - 2009-05-31 7:36 PM Trevor.  Nice job on the race!  You are kicking some butt with your times.  26 overall is awesome...would put you pretty solid in the FOP wouldn't it?

I had a great OWS at the lake with one of my masters swim partners.  He came up to the lake to practice an OWS before our event in 2 weeks.  I could really tell that my practice has been paying off.  Scott usually is a little faster than I, and he has been hitting swim class religiously.  It took him almost half the session to get comfy in the water and start speeding up, and he was zig zagging all over the place.  I would look behind, and sometimes he would be on the left, and others he would be on the right...pretty funny.  He started getting the hang toward the end, but it was nice to know that some of my practice was making a difference.

I've learned that is it quite race dependant that FOP MOP BOP thinger. Finshed 26/143 which is great....but to finish in top 10 which I would deem FOP...was 15 minutes faster. To finish 20th was 5 minutes faster.... Thats quick a bit in a short race....I'm a MOP'er....When the Oly comes on the 20th I would love to be a MOP'er.

Sorry.

www.slowtwitch.com

If you aren't familiar with it, it is a much more "hard core" BT.  Some really good stuff though if you wade through a bunch of the crap.  Quite a few pro's post there from time to time.

Their classified section is the best I have seen on any site, always lots of stuff changing hands there.

I agree with the oly thing.  I have mine in 2 weeks, and was looking at some of the splits.  I would love to be a MOP too.  This is my first tri, so I am going to take it fairly easy and see what happens.  Call it a good training day for the HIM.

DougRob - 2009-06-01 8:20 AM I just noticed that many of this group are online right now. I am glad to see we all have our priorities set correctly. These jobs are just getting in the way! No wonder we have the most posts!

There are at least 11 members of SWBKRUNMG on line at 10:20 EST on a Monday morning! Awesome! Now go out and train!

We know where our priorities are don't we.....Off to get a coffee, and then come back to read 2 RR's!

Just read your race report JEREMY.  Nice job!  Fast run at 22 minutes...That kind of speed is only in my dreams.

Thank you.  I'm fairly confident that I just plain mis-fueled for todays' race.  Don't get me wrong, I'm satisfied with my results, but I've been faster on the bike and run.  I just expected more.  Live and learn.  Now I've got some training to do for this summer.  I may dive into my first Oly in August...

Finally we convinced you to do it!! You'll smoke it.

Haha, I'm not dedicated yet.  I just have to get ahold of my swims, when I feel comfortable going longer distances, I'll sign up.

I only skimmed the last 10 pages or so, but did I see that we're extending the time for the virtual tri?  I'd love to be able to do my bike over again.  I didn't realize until I was almost done with my ride that my back tire was really low - it rode so much better after I added some air to itSmile.  I don't know how much time I can take off with another try (I'll still be on an old mountain bike), but I'd like to at least attempt a better time.  It would also give me a chance to better my time on the run - I've got a 5k race this weekend that should go better than my last run.  The swim time we're probably stuck with (sorry team DeuceFrown) - that's actually a good time for me so not sure I can do any better.

I'm hoping to get back into serious training mode this week.  I've been slacking a little the last couple of weeks but I've only got 11 weeks left to get ready for my August tri.  Definitely do-able as long as I can get the biking in.

Off to find some race reports from the weekend!

Happy Monday everyone!

Great races this weekend!  I just wanted to say that I had a great day yesterday.  No racing, but I had a very nice 6.1 mile run yesterday - after 9 holes of golf.  That is my longest run to date, so I was pleased!!

Have a good week!!

Thanks for the replies, everyone.  Well, I felt that I deserved a treat so I bought myself the Profile aerodrink system to fit between my aerobars...and a new wedge pack to fit behind my seat, the zipper on my current used one that came w/ my bike finally broke.  It is a black and white cow design!

I do think that filling the aerodrink holder w/ my new Infinit formula (that I just ordered!!!) will help alot and that way I can use my down tube for cold water to go w/ the shot blocks or gel.  (suzy-after reading that article about osmolality, it totally made sense that  my stomach had stopped absorbing the nutrients)  Not only is the cytomax way more sugary than my new formula will be, I was mixing it with something high in protein, don't ask me why...it tasted good?  Then add the clif shots and everything started to rebel.  My stomach is only now starting to feel normal again.

I love retail therapy, especially if it will help with training and racing and hopefully eliminate the gastric distress.  Needless to say, that was no fun.

I looked at an elevation profile for vineman and the elevation change over 56 miles is only 1800ft.  Yay! Maybe it will feel like a flat ride! yeah right!

Holy smokes you all sure have been busy.  I managed to waste an entire afternoon catching up and reading race reports.  My summary is simply this group is awesome!

I have a couple specific comments...
Stan has an issue with swimming in the Hudson - The K-man, Kramer had no problem.  But it made Elaine's mattress smell funny.

Trevor, is Sylvan Lake near the Sylvan Learning Center?

My weekend was family and baseball.  My brother's family came down.  And between them, one sister, and my family we have 8 family members committed to run a half marathon together this September.  And it's in my brother's home town (Ft Wayne) so it should be a blast.
My son turned 10 on Sunday and was also baptized.  After a short bday party we headed to the baseball diamond for a couple games.  He threw a total of 7 innings and had 11 K's.

And swimming SUCKS!!!  I'm glad, and I'm sure my team will be as well, we are extending the virt tri.  I finally got to the pool for the first time and was able to crank out 600m (with some breaks).  I'm freaking exhausted though.

I'm out of the office again tomorrow so pile on so I have a reason to waste WednesdayLaughing

Having a great day today - took a personal day from work and have just been hanging out with the family and enjoying the weather.  I did sneak off to jump in the lake again - I love me some OWS.

Quite a busy weekend, I can't believe all the posts from Sunday!!!  And we have some very impressive athletes in this group - between the races and the setting new personal distance records, I am very impressed.  No wonder we have so many posts, there's a lot to brag about 'round here.

HOLY COW...I AM NOT A RUNNER!  And I already knew that, but just went out to try to get a TT in.  First off, who am I to think that I can pace 7.5 minute miles.  Well, I did for about 2 miles  Got my first two miles in about 15 minutes, and got my last mile in about 15 minutes.  Totally blew an engine!  How in the HE!l do you people run like that?

I will post a time for team DEUCE at 28.6 which includes walking all the hills in the last mile and stopping at the water fountain at the tennis courts  I will try to give it another go before the deadline, but I have a race on the 13th, so I don't want to blow a gasket before.  I guess that is why they call it race PACE...knowing damnned well I can't run 8 minute miles.

Lesson learned.

Welcome to the world of going anaerobic and then trying to hold on for dear life.  We all have made that mistake.  Last year, I did a 6:55 for my 1st mile and it went downhill fast from there.  If you think this is the only time you will learn this lesson, think again.  It isn't bad to continue to test the speed waters.

Another good pool day for me.

PS.  My husband accused me of having more digital friends (that's you guys) than real ones.  I looked at him and said "they are real and they're fun!"  What was he thinking?

Welcome to the club Barry...Us non-runners should start a club. And we could have guest speakers like Suzy come in and explain how 'running' really works.
