The goods news is that the treatment I've been doing for my foot has paid off to the point where I've been given the ok to start running again. I have to ease into it, but it's a start! The bad news is I have to get orthotics, so I don't keep re injuring the affected ligament. I had plaster casts done of my feet today, so sometime after New Years I should be rocking orthotics. I can tell you that my orthotics made a world of difference for me--before them, my heel would hurt so bad running. I actually wear mine all the time now, and my back doesn't hurt as much. |

I wore my orthotics for over 4 years - prevented shin splints....I've only stopped using them in the last two months. I just thought I'd try...my calf muscles are now way stronger and looser than they were back in my early days of running. I am happy to say I ran 22km on Sunday with no pain and no orthotics. I've still got them though....just in case. Be wary of wear and tear on your running shoes, I found my orthotics raised my heel up which caused wear and tear on the lining of the inner achilles support in my running shoes - running shoes were lasting only a couple of months... |

Melon Presser 52116 | Subject: RE: Yanti & Salty Beyond Ridiculous Manatees PART 6--CLOSED Beloved Manatees I do love each of you so very much! This is a truly extraordinary group. Been having a bit of discussion with Salty regarding the group and I will let her speak for herself and what she wants to do, but it's very heartwarming to see most of you already have your minds made up I do love you all dearly and want this group to continue. That said, I can realistically give to the group about as much as I have been, which is not as much as it's been in prior seasons (as those of you who continued on know). At the same time, this is an extraordinary group with a lot of experience and talent and you all have been mentoring each other and me anyway. If you're fine with all of this continuing as is, more than happy to "renew" the group. There's also the question of letting more members in. My feeling is that it's in the spirit of the mentor program and what the best of BT represents to continue to pass on what we've been given. We're a very active group, which, while they seem contradictory, means both that we're kind of maxed out but that because so many of us are active/advanced, we're able to share support and advice with new members, whether they are also new to triathlon or not. My gut sense is that we should allow a FEW new folks in, perhaps 5 or so. What are your thoughts? |

Seattle | Subject: RE: Yanti & Salty Beyond Ridiculous Manatees PART 6--CLOSED I do have to say that I have a lot on my plate and can't really make much of a commitment. I don't know that I feel right about having a "mentor" role because I'm not sure how active I can be. I like Yanti's ideas for the future of the group. How would you all like to proceed? |

Master 6595 Rio Rancho, NM | Subject: RE: Yanti & Salty Beyond Ridiculous Manatees PART 6--CLOSED Here's my thought. I think that the way we've been going is fine, finer than fine, awesome really. We recognize that the mentors have lives, and training, as well, and we are good about answering questions for each other, as well as listening to our great leaders. If Salty thinks being a mentor is too much then maybe she could just join us as another "mentee". As for mentors, if her Yantiness is still willing to take the reigns, and give it whatever time she can, including making a new thread every few weeks then that would be wunnerfull. As for a second? I nominate Janyne. I mean she is constantly encouraging all of us anyway, right? Just my 2 cents. Got my Jogo done this morning with an hour on the drainer. Tonight, Le Mis!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Master 6834 Englewood, Florida | Subject: RE: Yanti & Salty Beyond Ridiculous Manatees PART 6--CLOSED OK, I went through a bit of a withdrawal last night when I saw that we were archived. However, I am OK now. Seriously though, I think that I would be involved to some extent, but in thinking it through, I am not sure I would be as involved on a daily basis. This group has been a blessing and getting to know you all has been both a joy and a benefit for me. I hope that the group continues, that more people are blessed to be in it, and that both Yanti and Adrienne are involved in some capacity. I do understand that the time commitment that you both are making is fairly large, as has been the commitment from other members of the group as well. I have benefitted from everyone's input, and I believe that is one of the main advantages to anyone entering the group. Not just the mentoring from the mentors, but also the interaction, support and mentoring that we all do for one another. I agree with Yanti, mentor groups are one of the best aspects to BT and I think this group is something special. I would like to see more people involved so they have the same type of opportunity that I had. And I also want to add a big "THANK YOU!" for all of you. |

Pennsylvania | Subject: RE: Yanti & Salty Beyond Ridiculous Manatees PART 6--CLOSED TJ and Chris have both spoken wisely, as did Yanti and Salty. I LOVE this group and have learned a lot from everyone and enjoy the caring, encouraging spirit which I would love to have continue but agree it would be beneficial to others to allow a few new folks in. Thanks to one and all, and I hope to be part of the manatees again. |

Just sayin' X a whole lot!!!! I can't wait to see the awesomeness that you all have planned for this coming year. IMWA broke my heart and I wasn't even in it. I want vindication, darnit! If Oceanside, Boston and Melbourne are anything like that, I can go away a happy man. But not until then |

Extreme Veteran 536 | Subject: RE: Yanti & Salty Beyond Ridiculous Manatees PART 6--CLOSED I agree too. Having been very active during the season and now less present here in the off season, I think a few new people would make sense, especially where it seems like the original pod had a handful of people who did not end up participating (for whatever reasons). It was definitely awesome to have everyone's support, advice, entertaining stories and happy distractions during the season. I am in for another round - we've got quite a few manatees taking on some serious distances that need their pod!!! |

Veteran 940 Citrus Heights, CA | Subject: RE: Yanti & Salty Beyond Ridiculous Manatees PART 6--CLOSED I know I am not the most active (forum-wise) of the mentored manatees, but I am happy to know that I am able to jump in and hang here regardless. Also, this group is a bit more then merely mentoring in regards to tri-stuff. We are all friends, and we give/get advice for many things beyond tri-stuff. I guess its more of a 'life mentoring' thing. I liked the assignments given, the role call for people's races every weekend, and the occasional challenge too. All of these aspects tell me that the Manatees, ridiculous as they (we) are, are a special group--much more than the average mentor group. btw, I am cool with having new blood....the question is: can they handle the awesome ridiculousness that is the Manatees? |

Master 4452 | Subject: RE: Yanti & Salty Beyond Ridiculous Manatees PART 6--CLOSED I feel as though this is just a great group of mentors/mentorees. We have all gotten and given support, on triathlon and on life, where we have needed it or have been able to. I do feel a friendship with you all, despite the fact that Salty is the only one of you I have met in person. I would like to see us continue, all as co-mentors, and absolutely let some newbies in. I would love to make others feel as welcome here as I felt when I first arrived. |
