I really don't think of this as a triathlon mentoring group at all.  It's a group of overseas friends for me - friends who I tell anything too and who are always happy to offer advice or just hugs.  means a lot.

The triathlon stuff - that's just gravy.

Heh, funny, me too.

Remember that all Manatees from all time are always welcome in this group. So it isn't a case of you have to decide to be in or out--SALTY ARE YOU PAYING ATTENTION--once a Manatee always a Manatee and you can hop in, be involved lots or not, or visit whenever you like. Fercryinoutloud random other people (SPIGLET) do that, too

While I'll be responsible for BT logistics (starting the "revised" group, opening it for about 5 minutes to let about 5 new folks in and the inevitable couple extra who beg, starting new threads when we inevitably run over 100, etc.), this group won't have an official mentor. I'm just going to call it the Manatee Mentors or Manatee Mentor Group (Mental Mentoring Manatees? ) and leave it at that.

I love you all. I can't make it without you, either.

Today's JoGo was brought to you by 5 cm (2 inches to your imperialists) of snow.  I took transit, and it involved a lot of walking.  First I went to my Chiropractor.  Then to my part time work, where I helped out for a couple hours because they were short staffed.  Then to my full time work.  Then to physio, then back to work, then home.  I got in a small fun walk around the lake near my work that the city has lit up for Christmas.  Very cool--pics in my blog.  And now--I am on vacation!  We are supposed to get another dump o' snow tonight Laughing

jmkizer - 2012-12-18 12:48 PM I know that I want to stay with the group at least through Oceanside, IMNZ, Boston and Melbourne.  Just sayin'

TJ nominated you as a mentor a couple of posts back so I think you will be forced to stay.

I have Big Sur coming up and my training plan starts on Dec. 24 so I really hope this group lives on in some aspect.  I know I haven't been a frequent poster but the support, and living vicariously through your accomplishments through the year, have really encouraged me.  It was a hard year for our family but you guys were always there with thoughts and inspirations and distractions.  We have all been blessed to be brought together and I want to say THANK YOU to each and every one of you but especially to Yanti and Salty who took on this funny farm.  I am, and always will be, proud to be a MANATEE!   THANK YOU!  THANK YOU!  THANK YOU!

Got creative with my jogo yesterday and did stairs for 5 minutes every hour x 6 yesterday.  It wasn't all at once but it was a nice wake up to my legs.

Got my Hanson's Marathon Method book last night and am digging in with the reading.  I will be doing their "beginner" plan for Big Sur.  I am very excited!  18 weeks starts Monday.

Jo, is that the Brooks/Hanson method?  If so, I have a whole 'nother level of respect for you. I read a bit in Runners World about them a while back and it sounded BA.

I got my Jogo time in last night between work and work. BTW, it is not a good idea to eat like a goat and then go for a run.  We had a Christmas potluck at work and I mowed through everything. Everything. All Day.  Ouch. I have the willpower of a bilge rat.

Oh yeah, put Big Sur on the list of things I need to see happen, along with Boston, Oceanside, etc.  And I have a few other, important Manatee things I'm watching, including Felicia's job status, Kate's school finale and job possibilities, Kirsten's achilles, Ann-Marie's heel pain, and Yanti's health, just to name a few. My Manatee concern list is long and I will not be happy until all is well Smile

Enjoy the day everyone, I know I am going to try like heck to do so.

I agree with Chris, you are a bad azz! I've read a bit about the Hanson method and have contemplated it myself, so I will watch your training with interest.

Yes, I will need the continued support of the manatees as I embark upon my newest challenge, the half marathon.  I have one picked out for April 28 and have my training schedule figured out, complete with the recommended 5K and 10K races along the way.  I don't have this stuff up on my blog yet, it hangs in my veal pen, er, I mean, cubicle at work.  I'll get it to my blog one of these days.  And, as many others have said, the current pod has a lot of great things coming up that need following and supporting.  Big events!  Did that make sense?  Kinda, not really.

Hope everyone is having a marvelous day. I have 3 days till I see DS2 and 4 days till I see my fam!!!

I'm pretty familiar with Hansons. They believe in the long run being done in a "fatigued" state to simulate the last portion of the marathon. Also, their long run doesn't go over 16 miles. Obviously they crank out some great athletes (and some ugly uniforms) but I'm not sure I would be as successful using their method as others. Definately let us know how it goes!

LOL: "veal pen." That is a great (if also very sad) image. I used to drive by veal pens when I commuted in Virginia down to the appropriately named "Farmville."

Congrats on deciding upon the HM. That distance is my nemesis. Just long enough to be very tough. Oh, wait. I'm supposed to be encouraging . . . . :-)

Tonight is the Holiday Lights run with the local running club.  There is a 10k run and a 2.57 mile run.  I think I'm going to do the shorter one because it fits better with my training plan (3 miles on the schedule for today).  I worry that 10k is just a bit too long.  Of course, I could start it and then cut it short because I know the area pretty well.

Ah cool! We do that every year with the local running store. I love it! We are doing ours on Sunday. Might have to break out my reindeer antlers again!

Do you have some festive attire? Maybe some tall socks???

Well, we are off to Vegas tomorrow for 5 days.  I'll probably go in to work for one day between Christmas and New Years, but otherwise not back til Jan 2.  We got another 3-4 inches of snow overnight and it is still snowing...

I have a neon green long-sleeved zip up to wear.  I want to try to find red and white striped socks to go with it.  Hoping Target has some.  I feel like that's my best bet.  Worst case, I'll wear the red leggings I wore for Halloween under my shorts.

BTW all, I signed up for a 3K snowshoe race. I have also never attempted to run in snowshoes. We might have to get this on video.
