The new mentor season is very shortly upon us (another reason why I'm not starting a new Manatees thread). I figure we keep the same format (I'll update my bio with the appropriate amount of new DNFs) ... there's no ONE or TWO mentors; we're all here to share and share alike. If there's any dispute, whoever sends me Pop Tarts wins. I'll take care of administrative stuff and maybe have some real hanky panky whoopee fun by selectively editing some of your posts. I also vote we open the group up (briefly) to let more (a very few) Manatees swim with the pod. I agree |

Seattle | Subject: RE: Mad Mutant Manatee Mentors 4--CLOSED melbo55 - 2013-04-25 2:27 PM OK, I do realize that Foxy Tom asked this very same question a few weeks ago, but does anyone have any last minute advice/tips/tricks/voodoo I need to know before my (first!) half marathon this weekend? The nerves have really begun to kick in. Interesting sidenote about the race: they already sent out notification that there will be a bomb-sniffing dog there as well as extra police presence. I, for one, am not worried. All runners will also be given black arm bands to wear in honor/memory of those injured or killed in Boston. that you are faster and stronger than you think you are and that you have worked hard to get yourself to the starting line. Remember that when any negativity surfaces. |

Master 3870 | Subject: RE: Mad Mutant Manatee Mentors 4--CLOSED ok... now looks like a good time for an update since nothing fun or exciting seems to be happening for me to rain on. I got "the call" yesterday late morning. Mom said Grandma went peacefully... in her sleep... in her bed... in her room... at home with one of her daughters sitting beside her. Just how we all hoped. I am very sad I missed her by such a short time, but I know the woman lying in the bed wasn't who I really wanted to see. It makes her last instructions to " Remember me how I was, not how I am" not nearly as difficult. I also know she would slap me silly for crying over her. So it's time to smile and celebrate the phenomenal woman she was. Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers! |

Master 6595 Rio Rancho, NM | Subject: RE: Mad Mutant Manatee Mentors 4--CLOSED TriAya - 2013-04-23 12:10 AM At IMNZ there wasn't even a bit of tent or cloth screen up in front of the change tents ... completely open on both ends and anybody could see in! Nobody cared. Nobody's watching you. If it makes you feel better to wear a towel, go ahead, but believe me, everybody is so focused on their own race you could probably do the hula naked in there and no one would notice. The volunteers are so focused on doing their jobs and getting everyone in and out of there quickly with all their gear with them or back in the bag. The spectators are so busy looking for "their" participant/s and cheering people on that they're not looking in the tent either (although most IMs they can't see in). A lot of the European IMs don't even have separate M/F change tents. Now we know the whole story... Edited by rrrunner 2013-04-25 5:30 PM |

Well, this morning I got my first "Active Cyclist" email. I guess I should have expected that after signing up for the metric century ride. Too funny. Hahaha, sneaky those active people And speaking of this targeted marketing. I've done things like search for a certain shoe or whatever on Google and then sure enough, it ends up in the sidebar adds and whatnot. But it starts to get a little awkward when there is like, toenail fungus remover adds and things about bad breath. Is this what people are saying about me behind my back? LOL You can thank my hubby's new employer for that targeted marketing. I don't know about the toenail fungus and bad breath, though. |
