Great looking puppy, Tony.

DJ - That's an interesting mix, but she's cute one!

Since we're on topic of dogs, here's my boy, Riley. 100% Vizsla

fowlmood - 2011-01-30 1:59 PM after reading all you posts on the flu it finally got here. I was able to swim yesterday then that was it I was out for the count couldn't even think about my long run or bike this weekend. I was really looking forward my long run because that would have marked my longest run ever. So debating on doing that run on Monday or Tuesday to get it in or just waiting for next Saturday to do my scheduled 13miler.

Getting sick really screws with your training schedule.

OH tell me about it!  I was getting a little excited to get back into training after being a lazy a$$ for a month.

So, in a sense, I'm kind of "starting" over. Am I mad about it? No not really because I've come so far since last year in January/Feb Swim - avg was 2:40ish, Bike - avg - 13-14mph, Run - 14:00. So, yeah..I was happy when I started my first week to find that not much has changed the since the last few training weeks.....THEN....

THE DAMN FLU! *#$@*$!  It started on Wednesday. I was feeling very uncomfortable, every joint in my body HURT (and I thought it's from starting up training again),  very tired, and just under the weather. Decided to skip my run. The next day, I wasn't feeling better, I was feeling worse. Friday, eh, neck pain was really bad, and I tried to do a light jog, and it hurt. Started to have hot flashes at night. Everything hurt. I went to class, and my sign language interpreter (I'm deaf for those who don't know me), who is a mother, pretty much said to me, "You have the flu".   I had no idea.    In fact, this wasn't the first time that I felt like this, and usually they only last for a day. And here I am, proclaiming to the world that I have never gotten the flu. It seems like I had a bit of a mild form, but just lasting a bit of a long time because I didn't do much of anything to treat it (honestly, I thought I was hurting from starting training again and feeling tired because I was just under the weather...that happens sometimes...once in a while).

Today is Sunday, and finally I feel 98% better.  My neck is still hurting, but everything else is fine. Will do Run/Swim tomorrow!

So I know exactly how you feel how being sick puts a damper on your plans.  My "A" race isn't until the Fall, so I have PLENTY of time to get back on track...I hope. *crossing fingers*

Hope everyone is doing good and everyone is done with the flu! :-P

Seems like this is all over the world. I'm feeling the same here. Flu put me out of commission yesterday for my planned 21km run & 3km swim.  I'm hoping to do something today, but still not feeling 100%.  More like 75%.  I wish I have until Fall, but I'm less than 8 weeks away from my "A" race.

Back from Richmond and we picked up a friend.

Oh Boy!!! How cute!  What kind is it?  Looks almost like a Bernese Mt. Dog.....details Tony and Sam.

She's supposed to be an Australian Shepherd something mix.

She's ours, moment of weakness we decided we needed a puppy.

Our daughter named her Chloe

Cute puppy.
Happy kid

I am back in the land of living after a couple of weeks of long hours, no working out and now I am sick. Not as bad as I was on Friday. I managed to get out for and easy 4.3ish km run yesterday with the running group. It was slow easy and I had to walk a few times, I couldn't catch my breath. IT was cold with a fresh coat of snow.

It looked pretty outside and the sun was shining. I needed some sunshine. I am still sick and I am sure that it will take a few more days to fully heal. But I think I am off the long hours for this week. I told the boss there is no way I can do right now.

Since we are on the dog topic, I also took mine for a walk yesterday in the snow she is crazy even at 8 years old and she loves this stuff.

I love all these dog pictures!!!!  It makes me miss Cooper though.  He is staying with Paul's brother and his step daughter is posting pics of him on her FB page multiple times a day.  They are pimping us because he gets to do all the things we don't let him do...e.g. get on furniture, sleep in a bed.

Getting Cooper was the best thing I did all of '10....including IM.  He has brought more joy to more people in our family than I ever thought possible.  My 87 year old mother is renewed every time she sees him.

LOVE LOVE LOVE the doggie photos!! Knew this was a great group, and all of the dog peeps in here help to prove it! Here is Trip, a 3-year-old Flat-Coated Retriever. I wish I had a more recent working photo of him in the field -- friends have taken shots but I can't find 'em on my computer right now. Oh well.

Congrats, Sam and Tony on the new addition!

Lots of sickies right now. Feel better, folks! I have a sick child home YET AGAIN -- this girl has missed so much school this year, it's almost driving me crazy. But you can't fake a fever and vomiting, so I know it's for realz. Bummer for her.

Happy Monday!

Very cool.

So would you be doing a monthly column on IP issues?  What kind of IP issues would you be writing about?  And are you going to have to create a pseudonym because you don't want your adoring public to be accosting you in the supermarket?

Awesome.

YES

What kind of IP issues would you be writing about?

The first one is an addendum to a recent article looking at inventing from an IP perspective. I will probably write a piece as a follow up to Slowman's article from a few years ago regardin the Ironman trademark. We have a few othe topic in works and we'll see what people ask. I will NOT answer questions such as: "IS _____ patentable."

And are you going to have to create a pseudonym because you don't want your adoring public to be accosting you in the supermarket?

I'm thinking of Fattyfatfat the 2nd! Laughing

Awesome.

Isn't Fattyfatfat copyright-able or at least trademark-able?  Oh ... wait ... right, you won't answer that question.

Awesome.

Looking forward to it.

Hello everyone,

So many great posts the last few days.  Congrats on all the TT's, TTT's and wonderful workouts.

Lawrence, that absolutely rocked.   I came in dead last in my first 5K, I'm talking with the police escort driving right behind me, but I wasn't half as cheery as you were.  That is the best video!!

Love all the dog photos.  I'll see if I can find a good one of my beast.

Today has been a hard day for me.  Tomorrow is my official last day at work, so today has been filled with handing off the final details and clearing out my office.  A group of us are going out after work to say goodbye.  Technically I am suppose to swim 1700 tonight and then make it to a 6:45am Master's swim tomorrow morning.  We'll see if I'm in good enough shape for that.  Puking in the pool is probably frowned upon.  Cry

And January is in the books! Post 'em if you got 'em! I'm thrilled that, at long last, my bike miles exceed my run miles. I am now officially into my IM training, jumping into my program I used last year at week 3 (perfect timing as week 4 is a recovery week, ha ha!), with a few modifications here and there. So far I have loved having 1-2 weeks of true crosstraining again and I'm looking forward to my journey to June.

January's totals:
Bike:8h 33m 24s  - 133.57 Mi
Run:18h 02m 25s  - 115.11 Mi
Swim:2h 45m  - 9000 Yd

I was hoping to have higher numbers for the bike and run, but cut back due to ITB and knee pain (likely caused by overdoing it in the first place).   I'm still happy with January.

Bike:14h 10m 26s  - 252.23 Mi
Run:10h 55m 18s  - 71.48 Mi
Swim:18h 30m  - 21550 M

Its sure felt like it at one point, especially when the person that I was sharing a lane with finished lol. I was in the last heat
