I've read a bit about the Hanson method and have contemplated it myself, so I will watch your training with interest.TriAya - 2012-12-19 7:32 AM jogo - 2012-12-19 7:56 PM Got creative with my jogo yesterday and did stairs for 5 minutes every hour x 6 yesterday. It wasn't all at once but it was a nice wake up to my legs. Got my Hanson's Marathon Method book last night and am digging in with the reading. I will be doing their "beginner" plan for Big Sur. I am very excited! 18 weeks starts Monday. Not one I'm familiar with so I'm fascinated. Keep us posted! Jo, is that the Brooks/Hanson method? If so, I have a whole 'nother level of respect for you. I read a bit in Runners World about them a while back and it sounded BA. I got my Jogo time in last night between work and work. BTW, it is not a good idea to eat like a goat and then go for a run. We had a Christmas potluck at work and I mowed through everything. Everything. All Day. Ouch. I have the willpower of a bilge rat. I know the Hansons. I train on the trails with the Hanson/Brooks Project. They are inspiring!! They make me believe that I can do this. I am halfway through the book. Just got to the actual training plans and week 1 starts on Wednesday (not Monday) and Wednesday is an off day!! I am sort of disappointed (in a happy, giddy sort of way) that I don't have to start training on Christmas eve and try and fit a run in on Christmas also. It is 6 days a week and their theory is to train your body and legs to work under a chronic fatigue but not overtrained. Very good reading. Actually it is the 1st running book I have ever read where they get the physiology correct. Just being able to read through it without screaming obscenities at the author (Galloway, Higdon, Pfitz) because of the ridiculous physiological rationale is making me trust in this plan even more. I am really excited!! |

And, here is the driveway 5 minutes later... Sigh... We rarely get snow in SE Michigan. I am jealous. I want a white Christmas. I'll come there and shovel for you. Honestly, we don't get it that often either and I love it. It won't stick around for Christmas, it's already gone in many cities around Metro Vancouver. We still have a ton here about 30km east of Vancouver, but it'll likely be gone by Friday. It has warmed up and will now rain for a few days. That's part of the problem too--shoveling it is a major workout because it is so wet and weighs a ton! |

Let it snow, let it snow let it snow. It rarely snows in december in England - we're in for a wet Christmas when I go there. Here in Australia the forecast is hot and sunny. |

Master 4452 | Subject: RE: Yanti & Salty Beyond Ridiculous Manatees PART 6--CLOSED JoGo part B: 27min run/walk in the snow. Well, the slush really . It is beautiful though, and it was a fun run. Feet were SOAKED! Another problem with the snow around here (aside from how heavy it is to shovel) is that no one can drive in it or is prepared for it. People with bald tires and they just spin, create ice, and then no one goes anywhere. We went to drive the cats to our friends house for kitty-sitting. Normally, about a 25min drive. Took us over 2 hours. Semis jackknifed up hills all over. Traffic was super backed up all over also because one of the bridges in the area (the new, 3 billion, widest in the world bridge) was closed after chunks of ice were falling off the towers/suspension cables, damaging cars. Story and pics One of the people in the story was a student of mine from a couple years ago. Thank heavens no one was seriously hurt. Guess the engineers didn't take snow and ice into account... |

Some of the stuff doesn't make sense but I can get past it. My only point was that it is nice to read a book that does not try to simplify so much that they lose the concept. Proofreading is another pet peeve of mine. Higdon's Marathon "novel" is one of the worst written, worst edited books that I own but I still read it and it inspired me to do the Chicago marathon on 10/10/10. I know, I need to read less and run more. Its the same thing with dieting. I need to read less and eat less. |

Master 3888 Overland Park, KS | Subject: RE: Yanti & Salty Beyond Ridiculous Manatees PART 6--CLOSED Snowed in KC today. 40 mph winds too, such fun! Made it to work, they're bringing in Pizza so people don't have to drive during lunch. If they don't deliver, I volunteered to go pick it up. A very entertaining drive watching those who are cold weather challenged. I am so not getting my Jogo on each day but I've got over 16 hours of training this month so that's averaging over 48 minutes a day. Trying to decide on a New Years day workout, either the annual hunerd hunerds (100 yards, 100 times on 100 second interval) or a "free" KC track club run of 5 to 10 miles. You just show up, run your distance, then they have donuts and coffee at the finish. My swim fitness is not on par with previous years so 10K will be tough. Course my run isn't that great either, been trying to run a few times a week. PF feels O.K. not that bad pain anymore. I think I'll hammer the bike hard this wintera and get my swim back and just ease back into running form. Yooz guyz look like you're having lots of fun and that's good. I hope all illnesses, ailments, excessive drama drill down to a minimum during the next few weeks for everyone so that this time can be thoroughly enjoyed. |

Seattle | Subject: RE: Yanti & Salty Beyond Ridiculous Manatees PART 6--CLOSED jogo - 2012-12-20 6:28 AM Hahaha I checked Higdon's novel out from the library on accident. I agree it was pretty entertainingly awful. But I think some of the other books you mentioned are simplified so that your average person can follow (ahem, people like me.) I think a lot of people get overwhelmed with too much information and a lot of that information is just not all that important in a beginner program.
