HOLA......What's on tap this weekend?  a little race? some big training? DO TELL!

No races for me this weekend.  I've got a long run planned for Saturday morning - I may go join the local runner's club on their group run.  I've been thinking about joining anyway so it would give me a chance to meet some of them.  It's finally going to be a relatively nice weekend, I can't wait to get outside for my run!  Then a swim and bike ride on Sunday.  In between I'll try to spend some time with my son (when he's around) before he heads back to college on Monday.

I'm a little late but.....supplements.  I take OTC Iodine (Iodoral) supplements.  No thyroid problems but the chlorine used in pools binds to the same receptors as idodine; therefore your body can develop an iodine deficiency if in the pool a lot.  I notice a big improvement in my attention, metabolism and sleep habits when I take my iodine.  Also take either whey protein or recovery shakes after hard workouts.  I feel so much better the next day!

Trina - keep going girl, you're doing great.  I second what everyone else has said and I was the same way. My first race had a 2 mile run and  I had to work so hard to reach that distance.  When I started I couldn't run 100 yards.  It took about 8 weeks before running didn't completely suck...so hang in there.  And tread mill running and outside are very different.  I don't hold a consistent speed so treadmill running is difficult for me.  You were probably doing the same thing by starting off too fast.

DJ - MY DOG IS NAMED HOBBS!!!!   Gotta love Calvin and Hobbs!!  Cat is named Guiness - ha ha ha.

If John is showing up at Lonestar in a bow I don't think I will be coming....that is just a little too scary for me.  I love you and all John but I don't need to love ALL of you Wink

No racing this weekend but I hope to get out for a good run. The temp is supposed to be a balmy 0 so it will be like an early spring up here.  registered for an Olympic in my home town for late june.

HOLA......What's on tap this weekend?  a little race? some big training? DO TELL!

I'll kick it off...no racing, but I am a bachelorette this weekend so lots of biking, a couple of test run/walk efforts; foot permitting and some fun girl stuff--a facial and a massage!  Today is a swim lesson with SJ.

Oh and I am on the count down to Mexico....only 10 days to go!

Hasta La Vista,
Suzy

i'm supposed to be running the half here in houston.  jarrett and june are getting over being sick and today i'm home w/ jacy.  nice present from her first week of daycare was rsv.  i think i've washed my hands about 40 times today.  we went back to the pediatrician last night becasue the wheezing started so she put her on these breathing treatments.  she seems to be responding to it but man is she pitiful.  poor girl, i'll be sitting on the couch holding her.  she'll have a face full of snot, breathing sounds like someone walking on dry leaves but she'll catch me admiring her out of the corner of her eyes and she gets this big ol' gummy smile.  ha!  so far i'm still feeling pretty good so we'll see.  there's a ton of BT peeps including two from this mg that will be down there sunday, i'd really hate to miss it.

so tracy if i don't wear it you are coming to LS?  sweet.  you really should fly in for this.  do the sprint on saturday or just fly in saturday night with linda and you you two can fly back home together monday morning.

No races for me either.  I am scheduled to ride the CT at my LBS on Sat for a couple of hours.  I also really need to get a trainer but my LBS will let you ride their CT for 2 hrs for $10.00, so I find as long as I get there once a month, along with my spin classes, it seems to work for me.  Bonus is they will usually help you with fit if you are struggling a little and they are not to busy.

Need a long run on Sunday without any Knee / ITB issues.  We will see on that.  It is to early in my season to start pushing, so any pain and I won't run.

Suzy...got any room in your bag for the Mexico trip?  This Wisconsin winter thing is really starting to grow on me!

No races for me this weekend, but have a trail run Saturday and a 1.5 hr bike on Sunday. If the weather cooperates I'm going to try for an outdoor ride, otherwise it'll be the CT.

Tracy- Does that mean you are coming to Lonestar?!? I hope so!

Steve- Have fun on the Half! I'm sure it'll be great!

I would look more into masters swim group or something like that. It's your time in the water that is important. So paying someone $100 for an hour, you will still have to put in time throughout the month to work or your stroke. You would be better off swimming once week with a group, more would be even better. Have you checked out Jack Rabbit Sports? They have tri and swim clinics at various places in the city.

CyborgQueen - 2010-01-13 11:35 AM No racing for me.   However, I'm looking into a Friendly 5k Race on President's day. They also have 1 mile walk.  I think I would like to at least try it. No goals, just finish, and less walking, more running.

Also - Swim Coach lessons start this weekend!

Hey DJ:

I am looking into/starting with a swim coach.  How often do you go? I am thinking of having coaching 1x/month as at $100.00/hour that is all I can afford.

Hmm.. thought of masters swimming but I think it is too much on my plate right now.

Thanks. :-)

Man, I am so tired right now, the weekend seems faaaar away
I have a long run scheduled for Saturday, then just a swim Sunday...Long ride Monday, should be close to 45 miles, hoping for sunshine so I can do it outdoors.

Tony, La Folie is on my list of places I still want to go to...we are going to a new restaurant next week for a friend's birthday, http://www.frances-sf.com/
The place is getting rave reviews!
Have fun, you two, on your kid-free weekend!

We are in the same place. I have an hour ride tonight, an hour run tomorrow with my coach, a swim WO friday AM followed by a strength WO that day and then a 2:30 run saturday and bike ride Sunday. I am tired just thinking about it. I pray that my right inner quad feels up to these runs. I will be thinking of you during my rides and runs.

Wow--the pages keep stacking up. I am just trying to keep up with work and training...

This weekend is still no racing. Since I should be done with my cold, I will shoot for LSR of 15 followed by master's swim practice on Saturday. Sunday will mean a ride of some type--maybe trainer maybe road. Somewhere in there will be strength, daily core, and hopefully a short swim lesson.

Supplements I take--daily vitamin, calcium plus something healthy I can't remember, iron, and the TJ's joint supplement chontrointin style?

Hope all are staying healthy and happy--
Krista

Hello All!!!!  I just wanted to thank you all for making me take a rest day yesterday.  It payed dividends today as I had a great swim this morning and posted my best run splits ever.  YOU GUYS & GALS ROCK!!

On another note...My poor VOLS got crapped on today......I guess we have to look at the positive side, we no longer have to worry about how Kiffen is going to embarrass our beloved football program.

I haven't gone yet - first session is this weekend. 4 weeks for $75. This person have done tons of triathlons and swim races. They also provide OWS coaching as well if you desire.  Unfortunately, it's in Vegas. It's not individual coaching, but with a small group, hence why it's a bit cheaper.

Honestly, if you really cannot afford it and is looking just to get better in your strokes and stuff - you should look in your gym Aqua classes and see if they provide "Stroke Mechanics" or "Stroke Improvements". That *should* help.  For my case, the classes conflicts with my school schedule, hence why I went to someone else. 4 weeks for $75 with homework and email access is not bad of a price.

Look around the city, ask on NYC boards and see if there's something that's a bit cheaper.  If you're looking to go faster, be better swimmer, etc...I suggest you to try to find a Tri Coach (and that's way out of my league).

DJ - MY DOG IS NAMED HOBBS!!!!   Gotta love Calvin and Hobbs!!  Cat is named Guiness - ha ha ha.

Did you forget the 'e' ? *winks* That's exactly why I named my cat Hobbes, after Calvin and Hobbes (and oh yeah, I have the 25lb Special edition books!). He was actually the very first cat that *I* named! All the other cats I had before him was already given a name due to adoptions or my mom named them.  He's not an orange tiger...but Buff color (pinkish-peach hue).

EXCITED METER IS RUNNING HIGH TODAY (and no it isn't because I am running)...

1. Remember the guy I told you about who while drunk wanted me to be his Gillian for his first Sprint?  Well he emailed me his first three run workouts today.  He is actually starting to train...  Totally thrilled for him.

2. Remember my friend Bob?  He is back home after brain surgery, walking and talking normally.

3. My swimming lesson resulted in my first ever compliment from my coach in the 7 months we have worked together.  I had to ask him if he was just trying to make me feel good since I have been down in the dumps about running.  Nope.

Now if I could only get my running back in action life would be perfect.
