"Raced" a 10k today. Gave it a solid effort - despite low-ish recent mileage and deciding to do a Kettlebell class yesterday.

52:33, 1st in my AG. First time I ever won my AG in a running race!

I'm pretty confident that with the right, focused training (and taper!), I can hit that 47 minute 10k that Shane says I need for a sub-2:35 Olympic race.

Yanti, Good luck!

Whenever I happen to make it to the pool in the AM, which is not much, the highschool team is pounding away in 4 lanes while the other lanes are open.  Last time they were doing a bunch of 50s and the coach was on the deck yelling them out 29,30,31...They make it look easy.  Coach was a nice guy, I asked how much they were swimming...every day, sometimes twice...I said, so once every couple weeks doesn't cut it?

I was pretty consistent in November.  I'm not doing anything long really so the mileage just doesn't rack up but trying to keep the frequency up..at least with running.  Got a good bike in today outside, but that has dropped off quite a bit too.

November's totals:
Bike:13h 31m 54s  - 259.7 Mi
Run:17h 50m 11s  - 130.75 Mi
Strength:2h 50m

My November totals.  Not awesome numbers but my run is improving so that's something

November's totals:
Bike:5h 32m 50s  - 79.86 Mi
Run:11h 51m 32s  - 64.84 Mi
Strength:10h 02m
Backpacking:10h 25m 46s
Hiking:4h 59m

Back from the Grand Canyon.  My calves are still sore. Takes me a few seconds to start walking once I stand up.  lol  Running tomorrow should be entertaining to say the least but the rest of me feels pretty good.  I am glad I backpacked it but if I was to do it again I would probably do a day pack and stay at the ranch at the bottom instead (which is what most people do).  Actually, if I was was an ultra runner I'd run down and back that day.  It would be a fairly doable run for an ultra (and there were a few).

I must say though, the flies on the way out almost ruined the whole trip for me.  They were horrible.  You basically couldn't stop or you would be swarmed.  Well, frankly, you were swarmed regardless.  In your ears, nose, everywhere.  I have to think the mules have something to do with that.

Still much lighter on the totals that I would like (still suffering from no mojo)...swim team for the kids has started making getting a lane at the pool tough enough that I think swimming is going to take a back seat until the beginning of March just for my mental sanity.

The local Y has just started offering "hot" yoga which I tried for the first time in Boston last summer and didn't like it one bit. I'm not usually squeamish...but packed in a tiny room at 100 degrees with 35 people flinging their sweat on me was more than I could handle. I decided to give the local version a try last week...it was FABULOUS...so I'll use my swim time for this through February (at least).

My husband and I did the hike to the bottom of the Grand Canyon (from the South Rim) and back in one day a few years back...it was really nice. That is one of those places that photos do not do it justice. Next on the list there is a white-water rafting trip (just waiting for the kids to get old enough to not jump out of the boat).

Yanti - I hope the IM is wonderful! I'm glad you are feeling better and are doing a taper...have a great time.

The Grand Canyon sounds like fun (minus the flies), something I'd love to do some day.  I was there as a kid but I don't think I really grasped what I was seeing.

Good solid month. While the run mileage might not be as high as you'd like, your run workload certainly is pretty high with the intensity in that  schedule....and still be able to hit the good quality bike sessions on top.

Checking in quickly, did the HITS Palm Springs Oly.   Hit my sub 2:30 goal of 2:29.  I had a really amazing day out there, it was a mass start, I was 9th male out of the water (maybe 100-110 guys), 8th out of T1, and get this....   5TH coming into T2.  I have never, ever ever gained spots after the swim.   I was 4th at the turnaround, seeing only three guys go past me, it was such an amazing morning.  Knew my run was going to suffer so just worked as hard as i could to try to hold my spot to the start of the run.   Perhaps I burned a few too many matches on the bike...     Run was mediocre to bad, but that's OK, I was expecting it.  25th OA, 5th AG in a REGULAR  - i.e. not Clyde - AG.

On the other side of the coin, I am going to post later about it once I collect my thoughts, but there was a sh**load of course cutting on the run.  being at the front, I saw lots of folks pass me, some of whom were cutting.  I held my tongue at first, but then started calling them out.  Even when being told they were cheating, only one of maybe 15 guys got back on course.  Including at least one guy in my AG. So did it keep me of the podium?  maybe

For some reason, it's just really really bothering me today.

Just got this Rev 3 email... no Portland next year... bummer:

Rev3 Portland

Revolution3 regrets to inform you that we will not be hosting an event in Portland, Oregon in 2013. The Oregon Department of Transportation is in the final stages of a large bridge project that affects an integral part of our bike course and prevents us from providing a Rev3 style bike course. This project is expected to be finished in the early part of 2014, which will open the doors back up for Rev3 to return in 2014 and allows us to once again provide an amazing course and event that our athletes come to expect. Details about the 2014 event will be announced in the first half of 2013. We hope to see you soon!

Great job Chris.  Sucks about the course cutters.  I lost an AG spot in an Oly to some guy who supposedly biked a 43 minute 40k.  I think it cost me 6th place AG so I wasn't that upset.  I would have filed a complaint with the timing company but the race attracts a lot of Japanese tourists and there were about 10+ of these tourists that had really funky splits on the bike and run.  The course was extremely confusing, and none of them took a podium spot, so I didn't feel the need to rain on their vacation.  Many of them are extreme newbies overjoyed to simply finish, and probably have no idea they cut the course.

They're planning on it, and have even scouted a few locations in Wine Country and near San Francisco.

From what I gather, insurance is expensive out there for some reason. So, they need to nail down a really great location and get a really big field of athletes for it to work out.

As their reputation grows, they're defininitely expanding. So, most new races are essentialy trials to see if it can work long term.

20min of suffering for me tonight.  I haven't done one of these in months, but after a swim cut short at lunch I decided why not suffer a bit.  Anyway, I managed 253 watts for the 20min, and had bumped it up to 270 for the last 3min.  My best earlier in the season was 260watts, so i'm surprised with the lack of recent cycling that I managed this.  Anyway, a good night.

Fred D - 2012-12-04 5:19 AM Had a good bike ride today, but still need to get together with David greenfield as the long ride started to strain the piriformis a bit at the end. Bike fit is the key to injury reduction in my case.... Just have to Skype him somehow soon....

Eeks. Sorry that's still nagging at you. IMO what makes DG such a good fitter is how well he understands anatomy and kinesiology in addition to knowing the hell in and out of bikes.

PLEASE REMEMBER to forward sloppy kisses and {MELON PRESS} from me.
