Thanks, everyone- just talked to a friend today who has little ones and who's done Eagleman before and she had the same thing to say so it looks like it'll be a weekend away for me. Thanks so much for the input- and my husband thanks everyone too, or else he would be the one having to entertain them for hours on end!!

Will not get to ride the course till race day but just did 50 miles on kent island and was glad I got to find out what the wind can really do to you while riding ( ~24mph w the wind, ~18-19 against it).  Do any previous Eagleman competitors or those who have ridden the course have any insight into the wind on the course ( is it in your face going out? coming back? ) or what has your experience been?  This is my first HIM and first Eagleman so I am ready to race in t-minus 2 weeks.

So, I'll be camping at the high school - has anyone else done this before? What's it like? Does anyone know if dogs are allowed - we were planning on bringing our black lab, but I'm not sure if he's allowed on the high school grounds?

Fingers crossed for good weather! I did some hard training this weekend - I purposely went longer than intended on my brick run yesterday because it was hot and sunny and I figured I'd try to replicate usual E-man conditions as best I could

12 days and counting!  Last big brick this weekend - 65 mile ride on the Eastern shore followed by 9 mile run. So can do the distance, but heat is daunting. Having "practiced" the EM course, wind really does feel like it swirls - but it seems like the back leg tends to give you a break - hopefully.

Very excited to just get this over with at this point - too much training and too much obsessing (my first HIM). I'll be the one wearing the hat that says, "This seemed like a good idea 3 months ago."

Thought it was fitting

Let's hope the water is calm and jellyfish-free, the wind is at our backs, and the humidity is below 50%. See you out there!

Paula

I like it as well (same start time).  But James is actually a bit older still.  So aging only works to a point.

Actually, I believe Vig changes up the start times from year-to-year (as do some other RDs) in an attempt to be fair.  You can't please everyone all the time in a race requiring 14 waves.

Advantage chasing people down!?!

Maybe but only wise and experience can do this correctly imo.

I think my AG is 3rd or 4th fastest yet I will be going through traditionally a few slower waves.  Coming out of T1 is going to be tricky and the first few miles on the bike.

Things I am thinking about; safety in passing, not getting penalties for the biking, aid station congestion and catching JK.

btw I think catching PennState and DocSwim24 is just not doable with a 30min head start.

Now 25mins would be another story.

Any thoughts about this race not being wetsuit legal?  The open bay waters are over 75 degrees at the surface already.  The choptank is usually a degree or 2 warmer.  Long range forecast suggests that it'll keep warming up right until race day.

Wow, last age group to go - Women 25-29 at 8:24. It'll be a LONG hot day... I like the fact that I won't be getting run over by the intense people once the bike starts, but other than that, not much to like about being absolutely last... At least every guy I may manage to pick off will be a small victory

And I'm trying to get mentally prepared for the possibility of not having a wetsuit!

I've done the race twice before and it was wetsuit legal. Personally I don't care at all. Would prefer it not to be wetsuit legal in all honesty, but I have a brand new wetsuit and want to use it

I agree 100%.  No wetsuits would be great, but I'll take whatever the day brings.  Historically its a wetsuit legal race...but with warmer spring temperatures that could be less and less the case.
