Coach 10487 Boston, MA | Subject: RE: Cycling Program v3.0 - 2010 - 2011 GoFaster - 2010-11-02 8:11 AM Jorge - just a small request/suggestion for the google excel file you're maintaining. Would it be a good idea to add in watts/kg for each round of tests? Over the next 4 months I'm sure some people are going to lose some weight while also increasing their power, and this would be well reflected in the watts/kg, rather than just the CP number. Done! |

NH | Subject: RE: Cycling Program v3.0 - 2010 - 2011 Agree on the power meter, I know where my next $1000 tri money is going! I found the gear which allowed me to stay around 90 rpm and work hard enough. My HR was 161 for the entire last 15 minutes of the 30' test. Felt like a perfect effort as I was pretty much unable to unclip after the test was over. Thanks Jorge. |

Extreme Veteran 330 Omaha, NE | Subject: RE: Cycling Program v3.0 - 2010 - 2011 Hi all! I've looked this plan over and am excited to give it a go - though a bit intimidated as I want to do this right and am not sure I'm understanding everything. Any help would be much appreciated - I'd like to do my 30 min TT tonight! I don't have a power meter, so I'll be using the HR plan. I have a Kurt Kinetics trainer w/ the computer (no cadence) - so it looks like I'll be able to use the spreadsheet I've seen referenced. My main questions are: 1) I see that I should use the same tire pressure / tension each time. I plan to leave my bike on the trainer all winter - if I leave the tension alone will that be sufficient? (I will check tire pressure each week - or ride?) 2) I don't have a cadence sensor and really didn't plan on getting one - is this ok? 3) Can I change the gears during the TT? I think that's all for now! Thanks in advance for any help. Renee |

Wish I had the power meter as my avg mph on the trainer seems to always be 1-2mph less than what I can do on the open road and my hrm quit working half way through the test. Power is power. You'd have the same reading with a Powertap on the trainer as with using the Fluid2 mph to power calc. Oh I agree, I guess I was getting at the fact that it was bugging me that I was suffering at 19mph on the trainer when I was averaging 21mph on the open road not too long ago. I definately like the power conversion for the trainer over heart rate with this program. Yeah I know where you're coming from, I only see MPH as power on the trainer now. I spent ~5 weeks suffering on the trainer this summer doing the 60MP portion of V2. When I got back on the road before the Sprint race I was loving the new ease of going fast. Felt like that annoying pig on the Geigo commercial, weeeee, LOL! |

Just use the same sequence when tightening the tension every time. I found with the trainer tire that 5 half turns once the roller touches the tire works best for me. 2) Cadence is not an issue, see next. 3) Yes you can shift gears as long as you adjust the pedal cadence so that you maintain the proper power percentage (MPH, as you stated you will use the spreadsheet to convert MPH to power). I shift gears during main sets to break up the monotony and among the short intervals. E.g. 20' at 80% I'll do 3-5 min in one gear, shift and do another at 3-5', shift again, and so on. |

Elite 7783 PEI, Canada | Subject: RE: Cycling Program v3.0 - 2010 - 2011 I just finished the 20' test a short while ago. My average was 228w, a little higher than I was expecting which I am happy about. The problem is that means I was doing the first two weeks at a little lower wattage than I should have been (I was guessing around 210) and some of those workouts were hard enough!! I think there is some serious suffering in my future!!! Good luck to everyone who still has the test to do! |

Renee You may want to check your KK computer instructions as mine (T-725 WL) includes a power function. This will allow you to eliminate the spreadsheet conversion as the KK uses a built in formula to produce the current, average and max WATTS produced. |

I just got it on tonight . . . THANKS!! Well - after working the last 2 days to get my bike and computer ready for the TT today and trying to learn the plan and charging my HR monitor - my HR monitor decided to NOT take a charge So - off for a run tonight. Looks like I'll have to wait until tomorrow for the TT. I tried using another devices cable and my Garmin didn't like it! |

Expert 957 Reykjavik, Iceland | Subject: RE: Cycling Program v3.0 - 2010 - 2011 Well that was not fun ! After 1 minute I thought pace yourself 19 min to go. After 3 minutes I was starting to breath rather hard and I knew I was going to fast. I tried to "relax" a bit but was still pushing to hard. 10 min split 310 watt avg. 15 min 307 watt. And then with 2 min to go I did something stupid...... I started to push again, the last min I dont even remember anymore, I was in my highest gear almost sprinting. So when I was done I was right in between puking and passing out, not fun at all. It took me about 5 min before I could get back on the bike to do the cool down. I am pretty sure this was a "near death" experience and it was on a bike.....with no cars around....scary..... I finished with a 312 watt avg, max 407 witch was at the end. |

Coach 10487 Boston, MA | Subject: RE: Cycling Program v3.0 - 2010 - 2011 Love to see the suffering going on I am back on the trainer and getting in shape after months and months of inactivity due to knee injury/surgery. Yesterday I did 30 min on the trainer at 120-130w (like 80w lower of what I used to ride for 5+ hrs!) and I felt like I was doing a 60 min all out effort, LOL! It is going to be fun get back in shape and track all of our improvements together! If you haven't done so, email or PM your email address to share the Google excel sheet so you can track your progress over time and see how others are doing. |

I do find that the CD at the end of these is the most satisfying though knowing that you gave it your all. My final test last year on this plan was a 20.1 mph Average, up from 19.1 mph after the first test. My first test this year is 20.32 mph Average so glad to see that went up! Even more excited to see what the final test will be in a couple months. Ryan |

Regular 609 Raleigh | Subject: RE: Cycling Program v3.0 - 2010 - 2011 Hi Jorge, I was going to send a message, but I thought that others might be interested in your reply. As I think you know, I will be lagging behind by about three weeks because of a half marathon on Nov. 14th. Yesterday evening I attended a "trainer session" that is hosted by one of our local tri stores. This will run weekly on Tuesday evenings during the winter months and I have been invited to join. A different local coach runs an hour (plus) long session every week. No particular stucture - some weeks may be more power focused; some more technique focused etc. I would like to do this (the companionship and motivation plus post session beer is a plus!) and substitute this workout for the first of your workouts each week. Do you think that this will this adversely effect the outcome of your program in any way. Any good reason not to do this? Thanks, Roger |
