UWMadTri - 2011-02-18 10:39 AM I have to be honest...I'm too emotionally invested in this to respond to all of you properly. Everyone time I start writing, I have a wall of text. I'm just going to stop.

PLEASE and I am begging you, PLEASE...if you are downtown tomorrow, whether for or against the bill, keep it peaceful. Please. There have been death threats to friends of mine from Vicki McKenna and her cronies and there has been an ungodly amount of talk about weapons. If you don't believe me, go to Vicki McKenna's Facebook page and read for yourself. Things get posted a mile a minute there, so it might get buried, but it's truly frightening.

If you or anyone you know will be downtown tomorrow, please please please be safe. Let's just peacefully agree to disagree with each other.
Care to expound on some of these "death threats" to friends of yours from Vicki McKenna and her cronies???
There are idiots on both sides of this debate that take things too far and its sad.  Stories have been reported about supporters of the bill getting abuse too.  It doesnt matter, its not right on either side and hopefully its just a few bad apples and the press grabbing for whatever angle they find.

You're 100% right. I was talking with a guy in the Capitol yesterday that said, "If this bill passes, I'm gonna get ugly." I told him that it serves no purpose and blah blah blah and he didn't seem to care. Some people are just crazy.

I’m not going to repost all of the ongoing argument but please explain who told the family to have the 6 kids? And explain why it is the role of the government to compensate them for this decision. And why my tax should be higher because another family chose to have more children. Also I am very surprised this thread has not been pulled just from the opening title.

Wait ... what?

I think you need to read my analogy again b/c I think (perhaps I am wrong) you and I are on the same page regarding taxation.

If it helps, foget that one family has no kids and one family has 6 and just assume that one family spends $50 and one family spends $250 per week, then read it again.

This analogy explains the difference between a progressive tax rate and a flat tax rate and helps to illustrate the distinction.

The libs (especially Bill Maher) are so often misinformed it sickens me.

These people were all up in arms that Palin (who I am no fan off)  used hunting terms. Now there is a target on someone's pic - but it is all OK.

PATHETIC!! Where is the mainstream media outrage - they hated the Tea Party for offering ideas they disagreed with - absolutely nothing like this stuff in WI.

This is my last response, sorry, you can accuse me of throwing in the towel. Too much work to do.

Responding to all comments regarding my comment about the higher income benefiting from the government. I'm not talking about just the obvious things where the government is putting money into somebody's pocket.

As I had written in a past post a while ago. I gain from government funding to research (TriAnna may remember this). I was educated in the public school system through college. Many of the people that I deal with were educated in this same public system (through PhD level). This is just one example of benefiting from government spending. Higher income people will tend to benefit from things like the court systems (say patent courts to protect a product to make money on), these are government funding are they not? Military spending for weapons systems end up going into the private sector by paying engineers etc to develop these things.

I think is disengenuious (sp?) to just say only the poor benefit from government spending and the rich don't benefit.

There is absolutely no justification for these people's signs, actions and threats. It is vile and despicable and every time I've seen someone with one of these signs, I've talked to them about it. I've gotten a handful of people to toss their signs to the side.

Do not let Fox News tell you what this rally is like, because it is BS. It is not filled with hate, nor is it filled with death threats or targets. These people are the fringe minority and WIDELY disliked for their signs. It has been completely peaceful, filled with (mostly) good conversation about understanding that we need to do something and a complete willingness to work out what that something is and a show of solidarity from the firefighters like I've never seen before.

If you want to see the videos that I've taken, go here. Yes, there are some bad eggs in there, but it's is the absolutely small minority.

JSA:  I know what your example was saying, but I wanted to go with what CBarnes was saying

100% agree here.  The problem is that people refuse to live with the decision they make and the resulting consequences.

BUT...I see this in the same light as those that took the private sector jobs for more pay and less benefits.  Now both their higher pay is taken away and they complain that the person that took less pay and better benefits has more than them.  It's a gamble on both ends.
*Note:  I'm speaking more globally at the federal level than at the WI level*

No one is saying that high income earners do not benefit at all from government spending, but, to claim that (1) they have received "more" from the government and/or (2) the government is somehow responsible for their higher earnings is simply unsupportable.

One need only look at the state and federal budget to see this is true.

Amazingly the liberal trib disagrees with the rally and lays it out in detail.

What the left has done is make this a country where SOME people think everyone else should pay and they should not.

I read ever post from Gail and in one post she metnioned she knew her way around guns. That's hardly like telling someone you are going to murder them or their family.

If there is something more specific could you provide it? If this is all you have I think you are the guilty of ramping up the violence with your unfounded assertion.

With Vicki you have specifically said she threatned the lifes of your friends, I saw nothing of that either, if she did I would suggest contacting the proper authorites and bringing it to the admins of Facebook as well.

You did provide one key piece of information with your previous couple posts - "I'm too emotionally invested in this to respond to all of you properly."

Perhaps you should think about that before you head back out to support your people.

I went to the second link you provided which you said clearly showed the threats.

I read every one of Gails post as you said.

You now say that "Clear on the left, clear on the right..."  is a death threat, really? If you honnestly feel that way as I mentioned as a good citizen you should contat those I mentioned earlier. But to say those words are how did you state it threats against your friends lives, really?

Is Vicki a pot stirrer, looks like it to me, has she made any death threats direct or vailed, not from what I've read or what you've provided.

You are the one who made the claims of death threats, I think it's on you to provide evidence of such, or retract your false accusation?

As far as the comparison to Egypt, it would appear the union, teachers and you are on the side of status quo, much like Mubarak and his administration was in Egypt.  Hopefully the people of WI will prevail here agaisnt the government as they did in Egypt.
