Didn't get my swim in tonight--got to really missing my big dog and just didn't feel up to it.  He was my best bud, lost him Christmas Day. Rescue dog, never knew his real birthday, but always celebrated it on Easter--he would have been 13 on Sunday.  We still have 3 dogs, but they are medium sized and not fuzzy.  Lots of big fuzzy dogs at the agility trial and got teary... Going to get the long run in tomorrow though, will do me good.

Room for a little 'un?

Don't want to be left behind, alone, in the darkness of the archived group.Cry

Besides, i seem to be the only Tri virgin and if i'm going to lose it, i would like it to be with you.

Oh my, I thought I had scared you off for sure! Glad to see your back, I wasn't sure who I was going to harass if you didn't show.

you're.

Your new found position of power doesn't scare me, well, perhaps just a little.

bag of mixed mint type things are open at the moment, dig in. By the way, chips are a british institution and we claim all bragging rights. Indeed i was at the coast for Good Friday and had fish, chips and mushy peas, which is practically law when you have a trip to the coast in the UK.

People are cracking on with the keyboard a bit aren't they.  only applied for membership to this exulted pod 24 hrs ago and another 3 pages have been added! awesome.

Best get on and introduce myself to the newbies. OOH OHH, We have a chip shop near my house that does ace onion gravy or mince gravy with chips.

One the downside, i ripped my new cycling shorts on an exposed bolt as i dismounted at the endFrown.

Time for a bath then posting my profile for "y'all" ready for when you all get up.

Nice job on the ride!

Bummer about your shorts.  I hate when stuff like that happens.

I haven't quite gotten over the poptart cat yet.

Hoping to get in a trainer ride later today, doing my long run tomorrow - the weather is supposed to be lovely.

One of my littles ran a 5K today with hubby. She took 2 minutes off her PR (now at sub-30) but missed a medal by 30seconds. She's bummed but I'm so proud.

Truly sorry for your loss. I dread the day my Aspen will no longer be able to run with me.  She is part of what makes it such a joy.  I almost hope I can no longer run before she can no longer run...

HOLY MOLY I go on a nice vacation to Florida for spring break and look what happens?  I'm sorry I missed the boat to the Manatee express.  If you don't mind I would like to visit you guys from time to time to see what you all are up to.  You guys will love Yanti and Salty's group.  They have a lot of great information and are very supportive!!  I've been in Yanti's mentor group a couple of times and have benefited from all the great advice.  {{Kiwi Press}}

Once a Manatee, always a Manatee. Welcome back, Claire! Make sure to introduce yourself ...

{MELON PRESS}

I hear you.

What an awesome puppy. Hit the dog lotto having you for family ... a great life! The best.

I will also say thank you for breaking the ice with posting the doggie pics ... we are VERY big on doggie/kitty/etc. pics here.

Hope you have a good time on your long run! Perhaps in some way he still runs with you ... I think so.

These are my two canine rugrats, Phoebe (mottled) and Lisa (black). Both of them do easy run/walks or recovery runs with me from time to time, but it's really too hot (no matter what time of day) for Lisa to go far, and Phoebe, frankly, is a pest who will spend the entire time trying to lick your face and/or be carried. I am certain this is the Hobbit Maid's fault. (I have a maid who is 4 foot something but not much, who COOKS for the children--not for me!--etc. She also has a thing for rings, although it all made more sense when Gollum the cat was still with us.)

And oh, why not, and just for Badger Jen Moose (Artemis) ... this is the beloved Biscuits, with Moose (the purple moose toy, which Jen sent in a care package all the way to Bali, that all the children fight over and try to steal from each other. I recently had to briefly 'retire' Moose after SOMEONE tried to bury him in the front yard).

Aw, no doubt. What a great accomplishment, though! That's huge, in a 5K, to take that much time off! Big Manatee congrats and high-flipper to her.

I can empathize.  I lost a dog 10 years ago and still think of him. We have a mutt that we rescued 6 years ago and he's been the best dog ever.  I'm not ready to think about him going one day.

No 5K for me this morning.  Opted to go for the ride with the Tri club today.  Got there and saw that I had forgot my helmet. Doh! Yell

Went back to get it and came back with my family in tow!  Hitched up the Double Chariot and we set off on our ride.  Headwinds, plus towing two kiddos, and hills are a hard workout!

Got back, converted to Chariot to jogger mode and took off on a 3 mile run.  Yup, today's brick was a family outing.

An afternoon nap shifted the remainder of the hangover and I duly went along and did my 1000m tt.  Slower than last time about 18-19mins.  Didn't have the lane to myself so definitely lost a minute passing or waiting.  Still the good thing is I felt strong throughout, my pace remained the same from the first lap to the last.  Could I keep that pace for 2km in June in the open water in Cairns - yes i think so - do I care?  Er no.

I got home and took my bike into the garden to get a  bit of practice stopping and starting, unclipping and clipping in....wasn't pretty.  Still need more practice, I'm waiting for a light bulb moment when it will become natural, hasn't happened yet.

I'm up now 6.02am Sunday morning - going for a 10km run to the beach - along some of the IM course and back.  Then when my daughter has greeted all the chocolate the easter bunny has left, I'm packing my bike into the car and heading to the bike track for more practice.  As my friend said you don't need to know much hopefully you'll only have to stop once at the end!  Ha!

I also have to practice drinking on the bike, not very good at that either!  And then I need to bite the bullet and get me a bike coach for absolute beginners!

Easter Monday - found a swim squad operating, 5.30am about 40mins drive from me.  Love an early mornng session!  Cannot wait.  This coach is a triathlete record holder, Aussie champion from way back, Stephen Foster.  Will be interesting being coached by a triathlete rather than an open water long distance swimmer....

Will post later how i go!

Thanks all.  There are some great looking dogs here!  What a privilege to be loved by one, no?

Got my long run in--absolutely gorgeous spring day here.  Sunny, 17C (62F).  Light breeze.  Always fun running somewhere new.  And yes, Oreo will always be with me.  He is what I call my forever dog--my doggie soulmate.

Hoping to get out for a bit of a hike this afternoon with the Staffies, don't want to waste the sunshine.

all the doggie (and cat ) pics!  I conquered my cold and was able to get in a 2800 yd swim this am.  It is absolutely beautiful here today; if a bit windy.  Hope the wind dies down for my ride tomorrow. Here's my guy, he usually looks like a big goof!

Yay! I'm back in.  I guess I should re-do the bio thing again.

Keye (wushunut)

As my sign-in name suggests I was once really into the martial arts.  Practiced Cuong Nhu (vietnamese style) throughout junior high, highschool, and part of college.  Then I discovered wushu which is what I practiced up until my mid-20s.  My athletic background consisted of being a sprinter/hurdler in HS and recreational cycling, again up until my mid 20s.  In college I started having knee problems, which I now know was ITBS but it was enough to stop my running completely.  I then turned to lifting and I put on mass and put it on quickly.  I went from a 6ft tall bean pole at 168lbs to 190lbs in about a month.  Then I graduated, got a job where I sit all day and took up competitive Mountain Dew drinking.  Not good.  Weight kept going up until I hit my peak of about 240lbs and this time it was anything but muscle mass.  Let's see, what else? I'm an ABC (American Born Chinese) that grew up in the DC area but now live in NW Florida.

Family Life: Father of two kids (3yo daughter and 6month old son) and married to a wonderful woman who is a doctor in the Air Force (which is why we're in NW Florida).  We are a multiracial family with me being of Chinese heritage and my wife being Caucasian.  My kids will be/are mixed-up mutts that we adore.

Current Training: I'm "supposed" to be doing a 22 week Olympic plan but got sidetracked due to a month's worth of travel in March.  Hoping to get back on track in April. Currently swimming, biking, and running and hoping to pick-up where I left off.  Running is my weakness so I'm working on that.

Last Year's Races: My First Tri at Eglin AFB which really was my first tri.  Came in 2nd for my AG in the Rookie division!  Did a "backyard tri" put together by our local tri club.  Ended the season with the Destin Tri which ended up being a Duathlon due to pretty rough waters in the Gulf that morning.  Placed 2nd in the Clyde category for that race. Did a few 5Ks here and there.

2012 Races:

Pensacola Sprint Tri 5/19(?) still up in the air on this one

My First Tri @ Eglin AFB (6/16)- doing this again except I'll be in the "veteran" category.  Just want to beat my time from last year.

TriWaco Olympic(?) (7/26) - not sure about this since my wife was planning to do this one again too.  Unfortunately she's "on call" for deployment this year which could limit her ability to take leave.

SanDestin Tri - another sprint in September

Destin Tri - Last sprint of the season in October.

Also plan to do some more 5ks and maybe a 10k.

Weight Loss: My wife getting pregnant with our first child was the tipping point for me.  I decided that I would NOT be that dad that sits on the couch and not be able to play or keep up with his kids.  Started running again and did a round of P90X to get going.  Then my wife deployed to Iraq for 6 months and the temporary single dad status ended my exercise time.  My wife, on the other hand, had plenty of time to run and train in the desert and came back ripped and in the best shape of her life.  She trained for an Oly while deployed (got to swim in Saddam's pool!) and came back and rocked it. I had to get back on the wagon again.  Started training February of 2011.  Went from about 230-235lbs and am hovering right around 210-215lbs.  Clyde for life?  Probably doesn't help that I haven't changed my diet at all.  I'm starving all the time now. That said, my fitness has improved tremondously.  I started out running(shuffling) at a 11-12min/mile pace over three miles and can now run 6-8miles at 9min(ish) pace. Hoping to get better there.

Anyways, thanks for reading my wall of text!

Hi Keye!

I challenge you in the Mountain Dew drinking! I too am a Mt. Dew fiend and I'm having problems getting off the stuff.

Any who...you mentioned you were starving...I read a great book called Eat to Live. It said that when your body gets enough nutrition, it's not hungry. I ate that way for two weeks and was never hungry. However, now that I'm back to my junk food ways, yes, I just finished eating a burger, and now finding myself eating a bowl of ice cream. So while I'm not really hungry, something is making me continue eating the junk. OK, I was really hoping that might be helpful.

Greetings fellow Manatees.

Claire (cggale)

I'm a 41 years old.  2012 will be the start of my third year in tris.  I got into the crazy world of tris because of my awesome twin sister.  She is an elite level triathlete who challenged me three years ago to learn how to swim and start this amazing journey.  I was originally a runner in high school, so it tends to be my favorite of the three disciplines.  I'm a very slow swimmer but I enjoy how it makes me feel.  I'm a MOP biker hoping to improve next season.  I've learned a lot from this group and am exited to learn and share our questions, knowledge, and experiences.

Family status

Married with two wonderful daughters age 11 and 6.  Family and work have made it a challenge to get in the training, but once the holidays are over and everything get's slowly back to normal ( is that possible?)  I will be able to train more consistently.  Right now, I fit in workouts when there are windows of opportunity.  Edit:  I'm following a mixture of half marathon and HIM training plans.

2012 races

Let's see, I got the Carmel Sprint Triathlon next week, 1/2 marathon in May, Oly in May, HIM, in June scheduled.  I will probably do some shorter run races and a couple of extra triathlons later in the summer.  It's pretty full compared to last year, but I'm exited for the challenge.

Glad to be a part of the group.

Unfortunately I'm allergic to the furry critters, so no furry children in our household.   But I love dogs and cats and have enjoyed seeing their pictures.  They are all so cute!!
