OK, I held off on this a bit, but I have to ask you ladies (and guys) a few questions:

  • How many of you are raising, or have raised, a family?
  • How about balancing a job, a family, school, a second job, etc?
  • How many are caring for other family members?
  • How many of you know people that are not thoughtful, or are forgetful, or are just plain mean?
  • Who determines your happiness?

I am completely impressed on a daily basis by all of you, working multiple jobs, going to school, taking care of others and putting everyone else in your lives first. Yet it seems like you don't take the time to look in the mirror and see the strength, power, intelligence and beauty that you all possess. Let me be the one to tell you just how AWESOME you all are. Your happiness and joy are not provided by some guy at work, or at a gym, not a "Friend" or some guy you meet on a date.  There are people all over the world that are not going to be there for you, they will let you down, they will fail at their jobs.  They have different values, morals, desires and goals than you do. That is no indictment of you, but of them. You are so much more than that.  It breaks my heart to see you having struggles like this, but please know that better things await you. Work and think through your struggles, and please know that someone sees the awesome inside of you. I pray that you see it as well.

Enjoy the week everyone, and may you have a moment that takes your breath away and fills you with joy, wonder, and peace!

That's awesome.  Thank you.

No, THANK YOU!!!!

No, {MELON PRESS} YOU!!!

You do this in your own life, and for everyone around you, too.

And for us.

Lovelovelove

You and Ann are always included in my long-session ABC prayers.

THANK YOU!!!  We all need the reminder some days!.

You are AWESOME!!  We are all AWESOME!!

Very well said DubSix! I must say that personal confidence is not an issue for me, which I find interesting because both of my sisters struggle with low self esteem. I agree with everything Chris said!

Jogo done riding a great multi use path near the in laws. Now headed back to ABQ :-(

Hey guys, I know a few of you have asked about the Hansons Marathon Method. I FINALLY got around to reading it so I feel I can much better speak to the plan. Overall, there isn't really anything I consider groundbreaking conceptually and it has very strong ties to Lydiard and Jack Daniel's principles. Anyway, someone did a very nice breakdown and comparison of Hanson and Pfitz. here at running ahead.

I would definitely add it to my "Read before you do a marathon list" which now includes:

Daniels' Running Formula (to be read for all running, not just marathon)

Hanson's Marathon Method

Advance Marathoning

What? Someone reads that blog? LOL Thanks very much for your support. I really appreciate it. It was a very tough decision to change. Felt kind of like I was failing at my original goals, however Joanne helped me see the light. She said to me - do you want to suffer through and IM, or kill a half? I want to compete this year. My goal is not to just finish - so I decided to change to the 1/2. Life has just been to crazy and hectic for me to have any consistency in my training this year. I was worried that if I stuck to my guns, I would end up injured. My base fitness is good, so I don't think I will have any issues being ready in 12 weeks. I'm also doing an Oly on 6/30. Some of you know - I did a road trip to Denver. I took my bike, and did a couple runs and swims along the way. I took a lot of pics and I made a slideshow. Feel free to check it out. Skrats Road Trip Slideshow : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5AsfYW5ikj4&feature=youtu.be

Chad, take your time, train, build, race, practice and get better. When it is time for the BIG race, you'll be ready. To force it makes things bad. I am really impressed that you decided this, great job man!

Thanks bud.

In answer to your questions - I am raising my 11 year old son (12 on 7/1/13)... I work full time so I do the balancing act. I don't think I do it all that well though, as my training has been thrown all out of whack this year. I really long for the days of being self employed, and being able to work out when my son was at school. I know mean, selfish people, and I choose not to socialize with them. I determine my happiness (was that a rhetorical question?)

This was an awesome post - not sure if you really wanted answers to these questions - but figured why not answer them.

Stay strong, powerful, and in charge of your own happiness everyone.

I hope that everyone had a great weekend!  I was so busy weekending that I got behind so here is a blanket post -- if you posted I missed you, please accept my apologies because it was not intentional!

Ann-Marie - Glad that Gunnar's hips are good but sorry about the ACL and arthritis.  Good luck keeping him out of trouble while he is on the DL!

Felicia - Congratulations!  A 30 second/mile  improvement is no joke!  You rocked it!  And the fact that you were pace booty, well, that's just icing on the cake!

Kirsten - Glad that you and Salty were able to get together.  It sounds like a fun ride.  I'm super glad that you did not get soaked!

Jo - awesome bike ride + ice skating

Stacey - Congratulations!  It's always awesome when you are pleased with how a race went.  Woo hoo!  And new shoes too!

Kate - Congratulations Graduate!

Yanti - I'm sorry that things are so stressful right now.  I'm sorry that your friend unloaded on you and added to that burden.  You are amazing and we love you!  {{hugs}}

Erin - Glad that the Cobb is working out for you.  Thanks for sharing tha beautiful sunset!  And a belated happy birthday to your son!  (Tom would like the pontoon boat for his birthday on October 18)

Chris- Sorry for your loss.

Jen - Memory foam toppers rock!  We had one until we replaced our mattress with a pillow top one.  The engine will come back on the bike before you know it!

JoGo - If you learned something from the whole trainer incident, then it wasn't a waste.  You are worth the effort!  Your ex "trainer" is a loser.

TJ - Woo hoo!  10k with DS 1 Cool

Darren - I'm so sorry that you are on the DL :-(

Chad - It sounds like you made the right decision to help you achieve your goals

Michael - I'm glad that you enjoyed the sailing.  Now I have Christopher Cross in my head though! Undecided

Ain't too far off 30 runs in 30 days

Every once and again Jogo puts on a Manatee challenge--this time it's 30min of whatever (I'm doing prayer/reflection/meditation or yoga, some kind of not-doing doing thing, others are walking, running, yoga-ing,whatever) every day for 30 days. We have dif start days so you're not too late to get your jogo on if you want!

Speaking of which I'm 4/4.

I'm 2/2.  Today was 20 minutes swimming + 15 minutes of walking to/from the gym.

BTW, my goal is just to have some kind of consistent activity above and beyond my normal walking and daily activities.

1:15 to go 7.31 miles. LOL  Made it to Starbucks and back with only one incident/crash. Funny how tough my son is when other people are watching Undecided A couple of cars stopped to make sure he was okay. They partially restored my faith in drivers after a lady almost ran over us at a crosswalk.  She was on her phone next to us for almost a minute before the light turned, then she just started going as we were two steps into the road. Ugh! I had a few words/dirty looks for her.

BUT WE HAD FUN! Laughing

Will someone please explain what getting your "JOGO" done for the day is. I know JOGO the manatee, but when did the username turn into a verb, and what does it mean?
x2. I thought I had read all of the posts, but I must have missed something somewhere

I've been called a lot of things but this is the first time I've been called a "verb".

I think the jogo thing, which was resurrected by request, is back on page 75 or so with an explanation.   It is just an accountability thing and gives us all the right to stalk you and trash talk you if you can't do something for a measly 30 minutes per day that is off the couch.   Participation is optional.  Your 30 days can start anywhere between now and June 1.   I still have room on the spreadsheet. Wink

So while Mutti was having her root canal today and Kristin stayed by her side, I wandered off in search of some kind of nourishment that would be amenable to a macerated throat (I'm sick today. Like, in bed all day in jeans sick because too tired to change).

Early morning so the only thing open in the adjoining mall was a Burger King. Hot salty grease; why not?

Sweetest little piglets, I was the first customer, so they upsized me for free and threw in an extra order of onion rings and doubled the tomato/lettuce/onion on the burger (veggies ... right?). I think if I'd stood there smiling and fluttering at them long enough they would have just given me the whole thing free ...

So I take a look at their name tags to thank them by name, and ... I have never seen THAT name before, so I politely asked, "How do you pronounce that?" Have a look ... yup, exactly like that. Gives a whole new meaning ... "Fachmie, it's Whopper Time!"

How? How does the whole thing come together so brilliantly???? Add that to some other things that happened to me today, I can't stop giggling in a totally sophomoric fashion. Ha!
