I just got SO much faster Okay all kidding aside, to help me play around with splits, lets say I ride the course in 6:20 on piece of crap high spoke count/non aero wheels. Are these bad boys good for 10 minutes? Someone say yes. At least no one can get on me for trying to "buy" speed (Although I guess I was going to rent anyway so there goes that argument) |

Thanks, good advice! That's actually why they had me come into the store today to make sure that they would fit. Good to go. Only thing that needs to be adjusted is the position of my cadence censor mount because it is a tight fit. |

what kind of tires did you have? put some latex tubes and smokin fast tires and you'll get an easy 5-6 minutes....probably close to 10 with a 6+ hour split.... |

Regular 118 Grand Rapids | Subject: RE: Ironman USA Lake Placid : Official Thread Was on the fence about changing my cassette but decided to go ahead and do it. I figure I may not need it but if I ever did it would be nice to have. I changed from a 12-25 to an 11-28 on a compact crank. I've ridden this combo on a few rides and am happy with it. A question for those of you who sweat heavy.... does anyone carry a small towel or piece of a chamois towel to clean off their sunglasses? Mine get drenched in sweat and it makes it tough to see out of them. |

I sweat a fair amount too and generally have not needed this in Placid where the temps should (hopefully!) be in the 60s and 70s on the bike. |

A question for those of you who sweat heavy.... does anyone carry a small towel or piece of a chamois towel to clean off their sunglasses? Mine get drenched in sweat and it makes it tough to see out of them. Oh man... I sweat a ton and this has been a huge pain point. If I ride without anything I sweat so bad that my eyes sting and I can't see out my glasses. Here is what I do: 1. Sweat Gutr - By far the best investment I've made. I've tried all the other "sweat" products and ultimately they either get drenched or cause me to sweat more (since you lose that "cooling" effect of sweat if you are wearing a hat, headband, etc...). This is a small strip that has a channel that keeps sweat rolling down the sides of your head rather than right in your eyes. It also works great with my bike helmet. I tried chapstick and vaseline but those will just get on your hands when you eventually wipe. 2 Any kind of sports towel or chamois. I've used a bandana but they get wet too quickly. They have a lot of small inexpensive sports towels at more sporting goods stores that are microfiber, soft, and extremely absorbant. Just wring them out if they get full. I'll stuff one in the back pocket of my tri top and only need to use it a few times on the ride if I have the Sweat Gutr on. I'll carry it for the run (and just tuck it in my fuel belt to reach easily). I have a halo headband and visor, but find them too warm to wear in the summer, though they both work great as well. |

I usually wear clear lenses in the rain, but even then play the game of water in the eyes vs. can't see right through wet lenses. |

Subject: RE: Ironman USA Lake Placid : Official Thread So how many peeps budgeted money for the Merchandise Tent? I suggest putting a dollar amount on what you want to spend BEFORE walking in there. I spent 200 bucks without even trying, especially since I had to get something for the wife and each kid. I get good use out of my IMUSA coffee mug. Been drinking out of it for a year now. |

Nice colors in the kitchen
All I want (besides the stuff at the finish line) is a bike jersey |

What are people's thoughts on cycling glasses in the rain? rjohnson - I always like to wear them if I can - either clear if it is raining pretty good or amber if just cloudy and drizzling. If it is really coming down I usually have to take them off as they get impossible to see through. This may be because I am normally a big fan of cheeeeaaap glasses because I sit on them/lose them ALOT. But this year I sprung for a pair of Oakley split jackets for some crazy reason, and I have really liked them quite a bit - they earned their keep on one of my 5 hour rides up in the mountains. It was raining buckets and those things shed water like nobody's business. I also usually have a big problem with sweat/fogging when it is really steamy out - but the split jackets stay nice and clear all day. |

When riding tubulars during training I carry an espresso inflate and repair cartridge; anybody ever haul a pitstop/espresso/etc with them in a race? I have enjoyed the good fortune of using such twice, with a fifty percent success rate. The failure would have made an awesome youtube video. Thoughts? |
