Strava KOM on my way home today. I am officially hooked.

No one needs to know the wind was at my back, do they?

So, I'm multi-tasking. On trainer and watching a TI video. I needed to see it again, and I'm not chasing kids around right now. Gotta get this swim thing improved!

If Jesse Thomas can claim a wind assisted one, so can you. Congrats!

Congratulations! The only way I'll get one is to make my own segment in an area no one else rides

OK, I held off on this a bit, but I have to ask you ladies (and guys) a few questions:

  • How many of you are raising, or have raised, a family?
  • How about balancing a job, a family, school, a second job, etc?
  • How many are caring for other family members?
  • How many of you know people that are not thoughtful, or are forgetful, or are just plain mean?
  • Who determines your happiness?

I am completely impressed on a daily basis by all of you, working multiple jobs, going to school, taking care of others and putting everyone else in your lives first. Yet it seems like you don't take the time to look in the mirror and see the strength, power, intelligence and beauty that you all possess. Let me be the one to tell you just how AWESOME you all are. Your happiness and joy are not provided by some guy at work, or at a gym, not a "Friend" or some guy you meet on a date.  There are people all over the world that are not going to be there for you, they will let you down, they will fail at their jobs.  They have different values, morals, desires and goals than you do. That is no indictment of you, but of them. You are so much more than that.  It breaks my heart to see you having struggles like this, but please know that better things await you. Work and think through your struggles, and please know that someone sees the awesome inside of you. I pray that you see it as well.

Enjoy the week everyone, and may you have a moment that takes your breath away and fills you with joy, wonder, and peace!

Reading this gave me that moment.  Thank you.

In answer to your questions - I am raising my 11 year old son (12 on 7/1/13)... I work full time so I do the balancing act. I don't think I do it all that well though, as my training has been thrown all out of whack this year. I really long for the days of being self employed, and being able to work out when my son was at school. I know mean, selfish people, and I choose not to socialize with them. I determine my happiness (was that a rhetorical question?) This was an awesome post - not sure if you really wanted answers to these questions - but figured why not answer them. Stay strong, powerful, and in charge of your own happiness everyone.

I think you do it very well indeed - and you're there for your friends which is very important and in the words of Vinnie Tortorich you really do put the life into living.

Think of us tonight. It's going to be a wild ride. We're under a tornado watch now (watch means conditions are favorable). One on the ground -- a monster one -- a couple counties north of us. So far, no report of damage, but the radar showed a debris field. Mixed information.

At the pool this afternoon, we were watching the storm build to the north of us. It was awesome -- meaning it filled all of us with awe. Even the lifeguards couldn't take their eyes off of it. And the wind picked up again. It almost blew me over as I was standing at the pool watching Jayson play.

We discussed our family tornado protocol at lunch today. Frown

I still want to go out for a run. I've run during tornado watches before, without problem. Still thinking about it. I just need to get out there for 30 minutes or so.

Felicia,

I'm not so sure I would run in a tornado watch.  I've been out in hurricane watches and it's pretty intense.

The wind is crushing my soul on the bike, but it is so nice out otherwise that I'd be crazy not to ride.

Salty, I read that article you linked.  I think I'm more confused than ever.  For me....the goal is to get to the start line healthy and finish what I start--if my time is in the range I put in for I will be thrilled--but I won't risk my future in sports to accomplish XX time in my first marathon given my prior injury history.  Yanti and Jen knew me pretty well when I was going through the gastrocs thing and I think they would be divorcing me as much as my husband would if they had to put up with me not running again.

Hurricanes are intense. I've been through a couple tornadoes, and I would take them over a hurricane any day.

Watch is definitely different than warning. I wouldn't run in a warning. All kinds of people were out tonight -- one guy was trying to bike. (with wind gusts at 42 mph??)

I did a .83 mile loop around our house that took me by two horse pastures. The horses were always calm. I've seen the horses when we have tornadoes in the area, and they are crazy and wild.

I'll be there with Team Revolution people.  I'll be going off in the first wave.  My goal is to finish in less than an hour.  Hopefully we'll see each other!  My team is going to have a picnic afterward.  Feel free to stop by.

I planned on getting on my bike for my Jogo today, but then I realized that the front of my house looked like ABSOLUTE crap...SO I chopped down a small tree, transplanted another one, washed down the walls and door, raked, pruned, and otherwise did a LOT of yardwork....for about 2 hours. I think I got my Jogo in after all, just not on the bike. Maybe tomorrow Cool

Hey guys, I know a few of you have asked about the Hansons Marathon Method. I FINALLY got around to reading it so I feel I can much better speak to the plan. Overall, there isn't really anything I consider groundbreaking conceptually and it has very strong ties to Lydiard and Jack Daniel's principles. Anyway, someone did a very nice breakdown and comparison of Hanson and Pfitz. here at running ahead.

I would definitely add it to my "Read before you do a marathon list" which now includes:

Daniels' Running Formula (to be read for all running, not just marathon)

Hanson's Marathon Method

Advance Marathoning

Just reading the article, I would guess that your coach is more on the Pfitz plan/philosophy? Or is that an oversimplification.

I like the idea of more miles at MP and less frequent, shorter long runs.

The wind is so demoralizing. I can relate to that feeling.

What in the two plans do you think would lead to injury? The total mileage per week? Or something else?

Scooby is a naughty puppy - he got the laundry off the washing line and chewed a bunch of stuff.  Clearly an exhausting task.

Ummmm...you need to tell her to look for the NEON team. Sheesh. Wink

Looking forward to reading your first tri RR. Darren (my now-adopted son Tongue out) learned so much at his a couple of weeks ago...made me wish I had done a RR for my first sprint last November.

I am considering Hansons for Marine Corps. My massage therapist, is a hansons-Brooks distance project runner, I have talked to her about training plans and their beginner plan seems right for me. They do coaching clinics so I may join one of them too for a little more personalized plan. I have read Advanced Marathoning and think I need to start with less. I need to base build more. You, on the other hand, could handle a more intensive plan.
